  11. Fusion is the same size as the first generation Taurus.... it's not surprising that it's doing well. It's at a sweet spot in size. Oshawa builds - Impala, Equinox, Camaro, and soon Regal.
  12. I compared incentive to incentive. There is very listed for Taurus around here right now. Thanks for your insight. Are there other constraints to Chicago adding more shifts? Supplier constraints is the first thing that comes to mind.

  14. I think the Taurus is a far better car to car enthusiasts..... but for the typical buyer who just wants a big car, doesn't care about "tech" like NAV or radar cruise control, the Impala is more car for the money you spend. You can step into an Impala for like $21k and the 3.5 will blow right on through it's 29mpg EPA rating up into the low 30s. A Taurus starts over $25k and will probably just meet it's highway rating of 28mpg... if you're gentle. There's nothing a Taurus offers that your typical upper middle age, working class guy nearing retirement that an Impala can't fill for $4k less.

  19. IRVINE, Calif. – Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today reported January 2011 sales of 14,267, a decrease of 9.1 percent versus January of 2010, primarily due to a substantial reduction in fleet sales this month. Mazda has placed a high priority on the strength of residual values, as proven by the company’s top-three placing in ALG’s most recent study, and CX-9’s positioning as the top-placed vehicle in its category in residual value. As consumer confidence begins to return, sales of crossover SUVs are on the rise, with Mazda’s successful choices posting record sales gains for the month. CX-9 posted its best January ever with sales of 2,054 vehicles, up 35.9 percent. CX-7 recorded its best January since 2008, with sales of 2,357 vehicles, up 45.3 percent. Mazda5 recorded its best sales month since April 2010 with 1,547 vehicles sold. The all-new 2012 Mazda5, with its superior packaging and the unique functionality of its flexible seat arrangements, sliding doors, stylish design, outstanding handling, fuel efficiency and high level of safety, arrives in dealerships this month. Rounding out Mazda’s North American sales, Mazda Motor de Mexico (MMdM) reported its best January ever, with sales of 2,258 vehicles representing an increase of 32 percent, while Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) sold 3,688 vehicles, down 12 percent compared to last January. <table style="border-collapse: collapse; width: 640pt;" width="849" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><col style="width: 20. I think we are currently in the final generation of NAV systems where having to buy $90 map DVD updates is semi-acceptable. I should be able to pull up to a Panera, connect to their Wifi, and download any map updates I need... or tether to my Android phone... or via bluetooth... or... well you get the point. I agree with you Reg. I think the investment to get the NAV system into the Malibu, Aura (especially), and G6 was a necessary evil for GM. All of the components were there already. There was already a link developed between Onstar and the Black Tie Nav units, it was there in the Lucerne, the GMT360s (pre-Black Tie) and GMT800s. Even if it didn't come out in the original boxy Malibu, the 2008 redesign was so extensive that there is no good reason to not include it.
  21. uhm, I'm not implying that Epsilon went that smoothly at all. I expect GM to make improvements to platforms regularly. I also expect them to make improvements so vast that they become a whole new platform. The current Malibu is the second generation of Malibu to ride on the Epsilon 1 platform. All I am saying is that adding a full NAV system to the current Malibu wasn't the project that Nick claims it was. No, rewiring the whole car would not be required. Wiring harnesses are segmented for that reason.
