#5 looks very mid-60s Buicky..... I don't know why it is "high-tech" unless it was something that was high tech in the 60s and now passe' to me today. Chemo-luminescent maybe?

#6 looks like it has clear plastic behind the cluster and probably uses some sort of sunlight/mirror setup.... which of course is quite usefull at night.
  2. There is an engine out there with 5 camshafts. It is a somewhat common engine, two or three may have even passed you on the road today. Sadly, it has mostly been ignored even though it produces large amounts of power compaired to other engines of this vintage. The 5th camshaft is somewhat vestigial and no longer serves it's original purpose, yet is still vital for the operation of the engine. What engine am I refering to? What is the purpose of the 5th camshaft?
  3. Just give the man a 3-series to shut him up. There are cars out there with a smoother ride then a DTS? Eh... Town Car maybe, Lucerne close... but none of those European cars are going to do it. If a shopper is looking in the DTS class, the IS 350 is an economy car. This is where one must keep perspective. The only Lexus the DTS competes with is the LS, the rest are too small. I can't imagine anyone complaining about the Northstar in this application. It's quiet and subdued around town, yet roars to life and hustles you down the road when you smash your right loafer into the carpet. Plenty of cars make more then 291hp at $53k. NONE of them come with the rest of the package that the DTS has in size and comfort.
  4. I guess if you compare in terms of features and options, a similarly optioned 500 will be close in price to an Avalon.

A base 500 comes with almost nothing standard ... hell the 500 doesn't even offer Navi.

Sure, if you want "basic" transportation, a base 500 is fine ... but if you're so concerned about price, why didn't you get a Sonata?

For the same price, you could have gotten a Sonata V6, and it would have come loaded with more features and options than your 500. It also has a more powerful and more refined engine, and it probably handles better than a 500. But hey, who cares about handling in a family sedan anyways?

For him.... size matters.... and the FiveHundred is probably the largest mid-sizer out there.

edit: the Five Hundred is only 3 inches longer then a Taurus's 197inches. The Crown Victoria is a full foot longer.
  5. I think what he is trying to say is that the Fivehundred is a full size car, in a midsize body with a midsize price. For some people it will be too big. Some people it will be too small. Some people it will be just right. Why would someone buy a Luscerne over an Avalon? Because they think <like me> that the new Avalon is hideous.. or they maybe they want a V8... or maybe Buick gave them a special offer if they traded in their LeSabre. I'm a technoweeny and I still don't care that neither my CTS nor the Lucerne have bluetooth.
  6. Ditto. They will truly be the gauge of how far Chrylser has come. Will they be content to leave the Cloud cars in their "rental car" funk, or will they invest some serious coin and make them world class?

The minivans are also key, but Chrysler has always dominated that segment. The new ones will be class leading, as they pretty much always have been.

I think the Cloud cars, much like the W-bodies, need to be retired.
  7. Yes, but what about the upcoming crossover SUVs?  I know GMC is only getting one, but it would be very redundant for the brand to have two SUVs around the same size and possibly the same price.  If they phase out the Envoy, where would that leave the TB.  I don't think GM is going to want to keep building the Trailblazer and just the Trailblazer.  Also, with the Rainier being phased out and the 9-7x eventually being replaced by a Saab crossover, the GMT360's future looks grim.
GM needs to get it's S&#@ together and fast.  I don't care if GM won't be #1 anymore.  I just want the company to still be here and turning a profit in ten years.

  8. Guys... the conv has been rating as this for as long as I can remember. So, it's nothing new. I don't know why its lower for the conv. That and I'll agree with Oldsmoboi... Torque matters more as it is more useful for daily driving.

Still... wouldn't you just love to have the S2000's 237hp engine with... 170 or so lb/ft torque?
