This is more like the X6 than the X3 or BRX.

The problem is that everything is value priced, and everyone bitches and moans every time the price moves even slightly toward competitors. Fine, let Chevy be value priced, but let Saturn be priced directly against the mid-priced Toyota and Honda, let Pontiac be mid-price sport sedans and coupes, let Buick and GMC be premium-priced instead of the current bargain-prices, and let Cadillac be priced appropriately for a luxury brand (not offering "more for less"). "More for less" is not a luxury brand mission statement. FCOL, even Hyundais and Kias are more expensive than most comparable GM products.

You make the same mistake most people do when using this argument—you assume that if they had fewer models there would be more money to advertise those they have left. They won't. Instead that revenue is lost, cutting the money available for advertising and development. You just end up with fewer models, selling no more than they did before. Following this argument to its conclusion and you end up with only the Chevrolet Silverado in the lineup, and still not enough money to advertise it properly and develop new models.

Err, It's an Infiniti Signum. Really.

I might agree, but this is a new engine, not just a Dual-VVT version of the old 1.8. Unless you've driven the new xD, you can't pass judgement just yet. It's still down on power compared to competing 1.8 L engines, but should be economical at least.

Saturn needs to name its colors for 2009...
thegriffon replied to Flybrian's topic in Heritage Marques
There are several different shades of blue, green, red etc in use. Twilight Blue is already on the color palette. If they want organic names they should have chosen organic colors. -
The base Camry engine is not being considered, that is just speculation. Clearly it gets one of the new Dual-VVT engines, which replace the older 1.6-2.0 L engines currently in use.
-
There are other possibilities as far as the name goes, but TRAVERSE is a probably the best guess.
-
BTW, the Vitz/Yaris is also produced at Toyota's Takoaka plant, along with the Corolla, ist and xD. The RAV4 is also produced at the Tahara plant which produces the 4Runner, GX470, LS, GS and IS.

Sales count production does not. Such contract production is not unusual. Toyota usually ensures it has at least a 50% interest in it's major vehicle suppliers (Daihatsu Kogyo, Central Motor, Kanto Auto Works, Hino Motor, Toyota Auto Body etc.), Honda recently acquired a majority stake in its minicar supplier. Toyota Industries, which is a much broader industrial concern (it still makes textile machinery as well as forklifts, electronics, dry pumps, vehicles, engines [almost all of Toyota's diesels] and other components) is the only major supplier in which Toyota has only a strategic interest.
-
It's obviously based on the E15 Blade/Auris rather than the E14 Corolla, which means it gets a wider platform with optional IRS, but as is standard practice for Toyota, it's an update rather than an all-new platform. As this is the same architecture as the T-body tC, Allion, Premio and Avensis there is a possibility the NA models could also use the longer wheelbase (E- and M-body MPVs have even longer wheelbases), but I wouldn't count on it.

Since the engine is Dual-VVTi, then it must be the new ZR-series 4-cylinder, almost certainly the 1.8 L 2ZR-FE as used in the xD. NA Corolla's will have the same engine, when the new Corolla eventually appears in NA. There is now a larger 2.0 L 3ZR-FE and the Valvematic 3ZR-FAE, but that is so far only available in the JDM Noah/Voxy midsize vans. This gives Toyota three Dual-VVT 4-cylinders (1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 L) to GM's six (1.6, 1.8, 1.9, 2.0T, 2.2 and 2.4), half of which are also DI (Ford has one, BMW four, GEMA [Chrysler/Hyundai/Mitsubishi] four, Daimler three, Subaru at least one). The is no Blade (a more expensive Auris for Toyopet) coming to NA. If the hatch comes it will be the Auris as it is in Europe and Japan, or simply Corolla. Although Blade was considered for a NA model some years ago that info is severely out of date.

FRANKFURT: 2008 Chevrolet Aveo5
thegriffon replied to thegriffon's topic in International Motor Show - Germany
This is just teaser information. Details to follow on debut. For the 1.4 I would expect something such as higher compression ratio, new cam etc. The Daewoo version is already a slightly wider bore than the standard GM Family 1 1.4 L (1399 v 1389 cc). GM Europe is no longer updating this engine, having switched to the smaller Family 0 block (lower displacement 90 PS), while GM do Brasil uses high compression SOHC versions tuned to fuel with a minimum 20–25% alcohol (89–99 PS E20, up to 105 PS E100). -

And next year the 2.5 door Mini Clubman joins the ranks of subcompacts as well. -

And you know this from the complete absence of any information about powertrain for the NA market? The European models at least get a new, more powerful 1.2 L and a more powerful version of the current 1.4 L. I wouldn't be surprised if the 1.6 L was improved as well, it just doesn't apply to the European market. -

It's a refresh rather than a brand new car. The major changes are the new interior, restyled nose and updated powertrain (the latter not applicable to the NA market). The original was the T200 (T- as in T-body Astra), succeeding the T100 Lanos. The updated sedan is the T250, while the updated hatch is the T255. -

GM @ Frankfurt 2008 Chevrolet Aveo5 Hatchback and notchback models to bear same name in future Striking exterior and high-class interior Two petrol engines with 84 and 98 hp; manual or automatic transmission Zurich - Chevrolet Europe’s success story began with the Kalos in 2002. In 2006, the compact-class model range was extended with the introduction of the Aveo hatchback wagon. Since 2002, GM’s value brand has sold more than 381,000 vehicles in this compact series to customers throughout Europe. These key models have, in turn, made a significant contribution to Chevrolet’s success in the first half of 2007, when the brand chalked up a total of 215,315 unit sales across Europe, achieving a market share of some 1.8 per cent – its best performance to date. Chevrolet Europe will present the Kalos’ successor at the Frankfurt Motor Show (13 to 23 September 2007). The most significant features of this completely reworked model are its striking exterior, its high-class interior and a new, even more efficient petrol engine. Like its notchback stable mate, the new hatchback model will now bear the Aveo name throughout Europe. The five-door hatchback model will be first to hit European showrooms (in March 2008), followed by the three-door model a few weeks later. Like all Chevrolets, the new Aveo will stand out for its excellent value for money. The Aveo hatchback sports Chevrolet’s new design features, as characterised by the big horizontally split radiator grille with a body-coloured crossbeam and the brand logo sitting prominently in the center. The dynamic detailing includes large, curved clear-glass headlamps and fog lamps that project like spotlights from the lower part of the bumper. The bonnet follows the lines of the radiator grille. Eye-catching contours, which flow from the bonnet to the A-pillar, highlight the sporty look. Additional indicators in the side sections in front of the exterior mirrors enhance safety. In profile, the body’s prominent shoulder lines catch the eye, as does their dynamic beading that sweeps from the front to the rear door. The back of the car is dominated by the solid bumper and the round tail lamps in a clear-glass housing. The modern and high-quality instrument panel is divided into four chrome-trimmed controls and a centre console with striking air vents, a fully integrated audio unit, and large, user-friendly air-conditioning dials. The smooth plastic surfaces and the soft-touch finish of both the instrument panel and the upper half of the door panel are pleasant to the touch. The new Aveo has grown slightly and is four centimetres longer than its predecessor. The Aveo offers a choice of two petrol engines: a new 1.2-litre unit with two overhead camshafts and an output of 84 hp, and the existing 1.4-litre engine, which now develops 98 hp and is available with automatic transmission. Both engines are even more frugal than their predecessors when it comes to fuel consumption. Despite the fact that its performance has improved by 12 hp, for example, the basic engine will now consume roughly 6 per cent less fuel in the MVEG fuel efficiency comparison. Well, 10% of kids in any culture are not fathered by their mother's husband (irrespective of the general level of fidelity), and a woman is more likely to commit adultery during ovulation. That men have more partners than women is a bogus statistic. Given that there are roughly equal numbers of men and women, then on average they must both have the same number of partners. The only thing that can vary is the distribution, i.e. a few women may have a great many more partners than average, while a lot more men have a few more partners than average.

Except that the 3.6 is already 270+ and even 300+ in DI form. Of course the 2.8 Turbo will soon be 300+ as well, but that is just as if not more expensive to produce.
-
Already in the pipeline. the cost for a 4-cylinder diesel in the US may be excessive, but see the long version of GM Europe's EcoFlex release for news on small engine developments, stop-start systems etc. There is also GM's version of what Daimler is calling Diesotto, but don't expect them to do what Mercedes will and offer it in a large luxury car (S 220 1.8 L Turbo).

Update Page 2! GM is daring me to look elsewhere for a new vehicle
thegriffon replied to avant1963's topic in Opinion
Are you suggesting the body structure is emitting some sort of magical field which warps brake disks? There are only three things which could effect the way the brakes wear or distort—the brakes themselves, the ABS system, and the driver. Since the the problem is manifestly not effecting every car (therefore not all brakes can be the problem), but does effect certain cars even if the brakes are changed, then the brakes alone do not cause any problem. Likewise the ABS alone cannot be the cause of the problem, since it should be the same on a wide range of cars not all of which suffer disk warping. Clearly then, the factor effecting some cars and not others is the driver. I would guess that a lot of people drive in a manner which produces distortion or wear that cannot be reproduced by GM test drivers. Machining or replacing the rotors will not have any effect. Either the brakes have to be upgraded to a specification that can handle the way you drive (if that is even possible), or you have to change the way you drive (even more difficult). Even if you have another car which does not have the same problems, it is probable that you do not use it the same way, or as often as your regular vehicle.
