    Mazda Teases 2017 CX-5

      Guys! It's Red!


    Mazda has dropped a teaser picture of the 2017 CX-5 crossover that will be debuting at the LA Auto Show next month. The key item we can tell you is that the vehicle will be offered in red. Okay, we are being slightly snarky here. There are some details we can pull out once we have done slight tweaks to the photo (which you can check out in the gallery below).

    The CX-5 will be taking some details from the larger CX-9 such as longer front end, new grille and headlight treatment, and a revised greenhouse. 

    We'll have more details on the 2017 CX-5 in the coming weeks.

    Mazda is building some nice smaller SUV's.  Was in the Mazda show room looking at Miatas and watching customers.  Many were very impressed with the current crop.  This should be another nice choice in the lineup.

    I really do like Mazda as kind of a plucky independent, they are almost like a modern day Studebaker.

    Maybe a CXx-5 with the turbo?! hahahah

    as a mazda6 owner, i still love how the car looks from the side, Cx-9's language has pushed that aggressive/stylish face a tad farther. this 5 will still look like progress compared to the last "gen".
    now when will Skyactiv 2.0 happen?  2 years or 4?

      Last month in the rumorpile, we reported that Mazda would be launching two new engine options for the 2021 3; a turbocharged 2.5L four and 2.0L four. Today, Mazda comfirmed the rumors with the announcement of 2021 3.
      The turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder is an engine we know quite well as it powers the CX-5, CX-9, and 6 sedan. Output is rated at 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet (or 250 hp and 320 lb-ft when running on 93 octane). It will come solely paired with a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. This model will be positioned above the top-line Premium trim and adds such items as a heated steering wheel, enlarged exhaust tips, and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels,
      As for the 2.0L SkyActiv-G four-cylinder, again its an engine we know from the last-generation 3 and CX-3. It produces a modest 155 hp and 150 lb-ft. This engine is only available on the sedan.
      We don't have any word on pricing, but we're guessing that 2.0L sedan will be around $20k to $21k. As for the turbo, expect base prices possibly between $28k to $32k. The 2.0L sedan arrives at dealers in August, while the turbo comes in towards the end of the year.

The engine produces 227 horsepower on regular or 250 on premium. Like other Mazda models with this engine, the 3 will have it paired only with a six-speed automatic. Both reports say the engine will have AWD as standard. According to Hagerty's source, the engine will be available on a new trim called Premium Plus - likely taking the top spot in the 3's trim lineup. The source also confirmed this engine will not mean the return of the Mazdaspeed name for a hot variant.

    • Can't get rid of Cadillac in the USA.  If anything you would make Buick China only because most the small Buick SUVs overlap Chevy/GMC products or could be pushed to GMC like an Encore or Envision.  And Cadillac could do an XT3 SUV as an entry point in what was Buick pricing.  
    • They have the most diverse portfolio still, and are #1 selling luxury car brand in 2020 so far.  They are cutting models that don't sell, and they have like 50 models, cutting 7 is not big deal.   Keep in mind they are also adding EQ C, EQ S, EQ A, EQ B, which is 4 all new models.  Rumor is they are adding CLE coupe/convertible, so they are adding 6 models probably over the next 2-3 years. Cadillac has cut 6 of the 7 models they had in 2016.  No one is flipping out about them killing 6/7ths of their lineup in 4 years, in fact people applaud it.
    • Good information, originally the EQS was supposed to be a 2022 model, they had the concept and drivable prototype last year.  But I'd imagine the pandemic has slowed and and EV demand still isn't that high.  Although they need the EQS because of what Tesla is going.  And the EQE sedan and the SUVs too. My guess is the S-class or E-class will clobber the EV's in sales for about 5 years, maybe closer to 2030 all these things just become electric and that is just the normal.
    • Neither, I will mostly keep it stock. I may swap out the grille, headlights, and tail lights for something more modern. I’ll keep it subtle and tasteful though. but, because it’s been sitting so long, I have to change a lot of the fluids out. I’ll be doing an oil change, coolant change, brake fluid change, diff oil change, and possibly tires if they’re dry rotted. So that will need to be addressed first...
