DETROIT, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- General Motors Corp. said Friday this summer's sales were down 3 percent compared to last year's summer sales.

On the positive side, however, GM's U.S. market share has risen each quarter of the current year, from 23.8 percent in the first to 24.1 percent in the second, MarketWatch reported.

Overall, the world's biggest carmaker sold almost 2.3 million cars and trucks worldwide from July through September, with China and Russia showing unit sales increases of 37 percent and 64 percent, respectively.

Year-to-date sales of Chevrolet were up 27 percent in the Asia Pacific region, 20 percent in the Middle East and 10 percent in Europe.
