Steam holiday sale (PC games)

Featured Replies

Has anyone bought anything from it? I've never purchased a game on steam before as I prefer to have the physical game in hand; however, the deals were just too good. I decided to pick up a few older games that I didn't have in my arsenal already. I got the full X-Com pack (5 games) and Civilization IV pack (4 games). The grand total was $16.08 after tax. I've put hundreds of hours into these games over the years, but have never actually owned them. IMHO, the original X-Com is the best game of all time, on any platform. With the "extender", the game runs flawlessly on Windows 7 64-bit even though its 16 years old.

Steam is offering full publisher packs for really good discounts as well. If I didn't already have the Orange Box and L4D games, it would have been a really cheap way to pick up all of them at once ($50 total for every Valve game).

I've bought:

Borderlands DLC

Left 4 Dead 2

Tropico 3

An Indie Pack

and I'll probably get Dirt 2 later today.

The Crysis 'Maximum Edition' for $9.99 is a steal, too.

Dodgefan and I already have Civ4, so if you want to have a good ol' comp stomp sometime, hit us up.

I don't play Civ IV much anymore (I more or less wanted to support the game as it's one of the best). I've been meaning to get Civ V but haven't had the energy too yet. I tried out the demo and it is pretty good. I hear they've fixed some of the AI issues from launch.

Tonight I'm going to play me some x-com, booya. Surprisingly, I've never beat the game. Got to the last mission once, but must have had a hard drive failure or something. It was many years ago. Played it on PS1 a long time before that too.

I bought Civ4 via Steam when it was uber cheap, and have had no issues yet. I've made sure to back up the install files that were downloaded in case of issues.

Been itching a little to try Civ5 due to the hex tiles. Seems like a smart tweek that'll affect the game quite a bit.
