    • Jeers! For that money I'd want a NAPCO GM or Marmon-Herrington Ford.

Cheers or Jeers: 1949 REO Speed-Wagon D19XA

If this is not the nicest REO Speedwagon on the planet, we would really, really like to see the

better one. On auction is a 1949 D-19XA pick-up just like the band used to drive to gigs in

Illinois, except probably a tad nicer. If you have never seen one, in fact if you didn't know they

existed, that's because only 200 were made in 1949, and of those less than 20 exist today.

They were primarily farm trucks and heavy duty vehicles, sharing many parts and features

with the more common Mack pick-ups, including the "Gold Comet" 6 cylinder torque-monster

engine. The styling is very much of the post-war industrial-deco look, and is just flat rare to

see. This truck was drivable when the restoration was undertaken for a top-flight private

collection, and took two techs two years for an open-checkbook, no shortcuts, nut and bolt,

no excuses redo of an American classic. The market for these vintage trucks has quickened

dramatically in the last few years, and the owner now wants to sell. Somebody is going to get

a remarkable truck, possibly nicer than anything like it you have ever seen. If you are a serious

buyer please feel free to message us with any questions you may have.
