Rumorpile: HSV To Send Out the Commodore With the ZR1's V8

In a couple years time, Holden will be ending production in Australia. But the performance arm is making sure it goes out with bang.

 

Drive.com.au reports that Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) is hard at work on a special edition on a Commodore model that will have the heart of the last-generation Corvette ZR1, the LS9 V8. With 638 horsepower on tap, this engine would make for the most powerful muscle car built in Australia. Currently, HSV's Clubsport GTS holds the title for most powerful muscle car with 577 horsepower. If the models does come to fruition, expect it to be named the GTS-R and have a small number of these models built.

 

You might be wondering why HSV isn't using the newer LT V8 engines. The reason is HSV can't fit any of the LT engines into the Commodore's engine bay.

 

HSV declined to comment on this story.

Shouldn't the sentence say, "why HSV is NOT going with the newer LT V8 engines."

No, it hasn't been fixed. The car needs to be built. Then everything will be right with the world. And no "re-badging" for any different divisions. This needs to be Holden's final mark for their marque.

Holden has been the most under-rated division of GM for so long. I remember seeing those cars first hand in New Zealand many years ago. It will be sad to see everything shut down but they deserve to go out in a blaze of glory.

They should build this as the new Police Interceptor! :D

 

Or at least for a new Mad Max edition! :D

      Last year, the final Dodge Viper rolled down the Conner Avenue assembly line. The vehicle would once again enter the history books as one of the maddest sports cars. But a new report says the Viper will be making a comeback, albeit with some major changes.
      Car and Driver has posted their '25 Cars Worth Waiting For: 2019–2022' piece and the Dodge Viper is on the list. The new model will retain its front-engine, rear-drive layout and spaceframe with independent suspensions front and rear. Extensive use of aluminum and carbon fiber will help keep weight down. 
      One disappointment for Viper fans is the new model not having a V10. Instead, FCA is developing a new aluminum-block V8. A 550 horsepower naturally-aspirated version will serve as the base, with a more potent 700 horsepower supercharged variant to follow. A manual transmission of some sort is expected.
      Car and Driver predict that Dodge will show off the Viper at next year's Detroit Auto Show - which marks the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the original Viper. Production is expected to begin in late 2020 beginning with the convertible. The coupe is expected to follow a few years later.
      Car and Driver is quite confident, going as far to say "trust us: A new Viper is happening." We need some more evidence and possibly some spy photos before we hop aboard this train.

      Before the start of this year's Detroit Auto Show, Ford held a press conference revealing new models such as the new Bullitt Mustang and Ranger. But they also teased a new electric crossover wearing an iconic name - Mach 1. The only details provided by Ford is that it would provide a range of 300 miles and launch in 2020. A new report from Autocar has some possible new details on the vehicle.
      The Mach 1 crossover currently has the codename of CX430 and will likely have some design cues inspired by the Mustang. Underpinning the model will be Ford's C2 platform. Currently, this platform is being used for the next-generation Focus and Escape crossover.
      The Mach 1 is part of Ford's plan to launch 16 electric vehicles by 2022.
