Question For Balthazar...

Not that I know of. I can't point you to exactly where I got it from online. I know that night I was also looking at some corpse pics from naturally mummified persons from Mexico, which I may or may not have seen on rotten.com (not for the weak of constitution). Sorry.

Why; what's the story on Fragonard?

Fragonard was an anatomist and is the man responsible for at least 21 (or more) known statues that were made using corpses stripped of their skin, then preserved by soaking them in alchohol for a period of time, removing them from the alchohol, then drying them, which perfectly preserved them in the state Fragonard put them in.

A well known Fragonard statue is "The Rider of the Apocalypse" [sic?]. In that piece of work, a preserved corpse is riding a horse which was given the same treatment.

^ Now, hold on just a sec. That's another Fragonard that the Fragonard I was talking about was related to, if that makes any sense. Those paintings are not his, but rather belonging to his cousin.

This is the horse and rider...uh, work I was talking about.

Here's another holding...I think that's...a mandable or something.

Those are the best images I could find.

Here's a link.

Oh, here's an interesting note: I think King [Henry, something, and insert number here] purchased the horse and rider...statue (what would you call these exactly?).

I'd be afraid to touch it, to be honest. :D

I guess it's pretty strange I would look at it in person up close and personal and yet I wouldn't touch it...

Oh, yeah. Another Fragonard Fragment: some of the bodies used to make the models were robbed from graves.

Frag's probably burnin' in hell. :D

I'd touch it; I'm sure the cooties were 'embalmed' too.

EDIT: I found the original uncropped pic of my avatar; it is indeed from rotten.com. There were a half-dozen or so naturally-preserved corpse pics from Mexico, tho I don't recall the link title. Another warning: the site is not for the weak of constitution. There's some pics there that will haunt you...
