The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class marked a significant rename for the brand, dropping the long-running M-Class designation in favor of the GLE name that better aligned with the rest of the Mercedes-Benz SUV lineup. The W166 body family returned with a range of powertrains spanning the GLE 350, GLE 400 4MATIC, and GLE 550e plug-in hybrid, while the C292 coupe body added an entirely new GLE Coupe variant to the lineup. At the top sat the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, packing a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 with 550 horsepower.
