  1. @ccap41 @Drew Dowdell @oldshurst442 @surreal1272 @A Horse With No Name Hertz has signed a deal with BP to build a National Network in North America of Fast EV Chargers that will be tied into all Hertz EV rentals for knowing where to get a fast charge and BP has stated for a fee, these chargers will be open to the public for fast charging. Hertz, bp collaborate to accelerate EV charging in North America | Hertz Global Holdings, Inc. QUOTE: The agreement also involves the management of Hertz’s charging infrastructure by bp pulse and the customization of its Omega software to ensure Hertz’s growing fleet of electric rental cars are recharged quickly and efficiently between rentals. Omega supports fleet operations by automating charging when the power price is low, while providing real-time visibility to EVs, chargers, power usage, and more. Quote: Bernard Looney, bp chief executive, said: “It’s brilliant to be joining forces with Hertz – quite simply, they are one of the biggest names on the road. Working together to deliver charging facilities and design solutions, we believe we can take the EV driving experience to the next level for US customers. And this is just the start for bp pulse in the United States.” bp acquired fleet charging and energy management company Amply Power in 2021 as part of its commitment to grow mobility and fleet products and services in North America. Amply Power, now rebranded as bp pulse, began installing charging infrastructure at 25 Hertz rental locations in multiple states in 2022. This should put to rest any concerns by anyone about renting an EV when you can Fast Charge at Hertz locations as well as many of thousands of other places. QUOTE: bp pulse is expanding its global network of high-speed charging for cars, light commercial vehicles, and trucks, with a global target of more than 100,000 chargers by 2030, with about 90% of those rapid or ultra-fast chargers. The company also is partnering with fleet operators to accelerate the electric transformation of their fleets. IMHO Electricity is the new Oil Barrons of the Future. Just like Shell that has been buying up charging companies across Europe, Asia and the Americas. BP and others are also seeing the writing on the wall. Oil will always be here as it is used in tons of other products, but the auto industry days of ICE are tagged for replacement by EVs and Electrical charging. Knowing that it takes a bit of time to Charge, Hertz is having Relaxing Massage chairs for people to rest in. If you want to check out a Chinese made EV, then head to Hertz and rent one.

  2. @ccap41 This will help as the final 17 states have approval that has triggered the first of the funds to install coast to coast along all national highways Chargers. States get final OK to build highway EV charging network | AP News QUOTE: The Transportation Department said it had OK’d EV charger plans from a last set of 17 states, triggering the release of $1.5 billion in federal funds to all jurisdictions nationwide — or $5 billion over five years — to install or upgrade chargers along 75,000 miles (120,000 kilometers) of highway from coast to coast, with a goal of 500,000 EV chargers nationwide. Plans for the other 33 states and the District of Columbia were approved earlier this month.

  3. What did I do to my car today? A lot. Today was the day for the new Michelins! They are the latest Defender 2 design, branded a specific way for Costco. With the current sale, the package deal for everything was a nice thing to have in these inflationary times. Instead of going "Cafe 1.50," I went "Cafe 2.69," because I had a slice of pepperoni pizza and a soft drink while I waited. "Costco lunch" pickings were slim. I started out with that. As I got near the place, I drove the car around a couple more miles and pulled it up to the tire department when the tire life was at exactly 72,000 miles. OCD much, eh? The guy told me I still had about 4 mms on the middle treads, but clearly not at the shoulders. Still, that's impressive. I then went to get them aligned at a small shop I happened upon a year ago and really like, and then went for a belated birthday dinner for and with a friend. Between brand new tires, and their being balanced and aligned, the car drove as if it had less than 50,000 miles and reminded me of the incredibly quiet motoring on smooth asphalt between Portland and Seattle during the car's "early years."

  4. I called it... From this thread. And it didnt take long to sign up a deal like that either. Not even a week. Its not rocket science to figure out that stuff like this WILL happen. The whole world is demanding this change from ICEV to EV. Trillions upon trillions of dollars of many sectors are being spent and will be spent to make this change. Its only logic that if not for idiot politicians to make this happen, but for global big business to bring us these solutions to make this transition. Its OK NOT to have faith in dummy politicians. But corporate big wigs get paid the BIIIIG bucks for solutions. I think the switch to EVs will happen sooner than later. I have had this feeling for a good 2 years about. I was skeptical before then, but I see the global change and how solutions are presented and executed (with all the technologies and business ventures and all) and I know this change to EVs will happen sooner than we think.

  8. On vacation this week, rambling around NE Ohio, Western PA and Western NY. In Erie PA today, off to Lake Chautauqua and Jamestown, NY tomorrow, then the Allegheny National Forest and down to Pittsburgh Friday. Been rainy the last few days, but clearing today. Saw a few 30s Ford hot rods on Sunday, a clean ‘64 Corvette convertible today, a bright blue and a gray C8 today. Trying to relax and not think about work and real life and enjoy some hiking and beach time. Though I did bring my laptop just in case.

  9. I don't actively shop against Chinese made things, unless its a very large purchase, like this. If I happen to notice something is Chinese made, I'll try and avoid it, but I won't go overly out of my way to do so.

  10. I was at one time excited about Polestar and trying out their EV as a possible on my list to buy. Now, NOPE, Not Gonna Happen. Where at all possible, I am avoiding buying anything from China.

  12. I was hunting around for Airbus 340 vids. How I miss this plane. Back in its heyday, if I got on an Airbus 340, I was sort of steamed I didn't get onto a Boeing 747. Now, I wish I had ridden on more of them. This video is sort of long, but very educational. For one, it pointed out that the Airbus 330 (twin) and Airbus 340 (quad) were developed at the same time and share a lot of parts ... both are 2-4-2. The 340 (quad) fell out of favor, while the 330 (twin) keeps spawning new variants, the latest of which is the -900 neo. They made 4 of the Airbus 340 - 200, 300, 500, and 600. One saw a lot of 300s and then a lot of 600s. I've flown on both. The 300 "looks" better. Yes, it was the current time's answer to the very dated Boeing 707 and its skinny engines. The 600 roars and those big engines get that disproportionately long fuselage (longer than a 747, IIRC) to rotate fairly quickly. Just great! A cool 300 version, flown by Swiss and obviously in Swiss airspace. Did I mention that I miss this plane?
