  1. Updates spanning a few days. I got the left-side case lock fixed. The key provided couldn't unlock the case all the way. I ended up having to drill out about 10 riviets, cleaning the mechanism, and rebuilding the lock cylinder. It looks like someone attempted to re-code the lock but didn't get it quite right. I recoded it and it unlocks, but something still isn't quite right with it, so I'll probably buy a new lock cylinder. I can still use it for now. I've also found the top case for it and will be picking that up and re-keying it soon. Additionally, @smk4565 would be quite proud that I purchased the proper bolts that are vastly superior German engineering. $5 per bolt for a screw with one end hammered flat. That's $30 worth of screws in my hand, but they're the only thing that works properly to keep the front lower fairings in place. BMW did want another $4 per rubber washer, but I got the dimensions of them and bought a 30-pack from Lowe's from the plumbing repair shelf for $3.97. These dashboard switches have seen better days, beyond the obvious wear, their switching action didn't work well. I found the hazard light switch and the ABS disable switch on E-bay for $25 each. I still need to find the headed grip switch. Looks and works so much better. I'm also starting to do detail cleaning in small batches. I got a set of motor bolts for the engine breast plate and alternator cover. I swapped out the bolts, cleaned up the alternator cover, and hit it with the Meguires Back-to-Black. I'm not going for perfect, just better. To this.... Taking off the breast plate involves removing the exhaust, which I'm not going to do this season, but I would eventually want to repaint it. I'm still riding it several times a week, and I should have another update next week when I get the top case.

  2. Hopefully the rebuild will require the homes to be on rockbed installed posts so it can handle the storm surge.

  3. If it had to be Texas, I much prefer that area. Somewhere I have a photo I took of some new houses going up near Clear Lake, east of NASA Houston Space Center and on water, but not quite at Galveston Bay. They were propping them up like this, and were using metal studs, joists, etc. Lightweight metal. That method comes and goes, it seems. It's damn moist down there, so that has to be addressed in how the metal is prepped ... and even cut. I sort of like this look. It says Sunbelt AND vacation.

  4. A friend moved from Seattle to Texas, Bayou Vista which is right next to Galveston. Has parents that have Dementia so moved to care for them. Bought a new house on the water. Was surprised as the house is built on Galvanized pilings into the bed rock and the stairs take you up 20 feet to the front door so there is nothing to flood or get damaged. I cannot seem to quickly find the picture of their house, but it is like this one that came up on the web. Nice Home but clearly built to handle water coming in from the Hurricanes. All homes need to be built this way to handle the 100 yr storm as you stated.

  5. Yes. Lifetime ban was the wording. Its evil for the MLB to wait until he died to get him inducted so he doesnt see he was inducted. I fully understand the lifetime ban. Especially since in 1919 there was a fixin' with the 1919 World Series regarding gambling and purposely losing and all of that. But...gambling is part of baseball now. THIS is where I have the problem. Insult to injury, their 'here and now-for the time being' golden boy got himself into hot water with this gambling thing, and we will never know if his "translator" put bets for him or he really did "steal" from him... I wonder what Pete Rose thought of Ohtani's situation. It must have burned him up reall bad. I know it made me anger up just a tad and I have no connection to Pete Rose in ANY way. So he played a couple of games for the Montreal Expos. He, the MLB and even the Montreal fans barely acknowledged this event even happening. Try to even see his 4000th hit with the Expos on youtube. It doesnt exist... Its barely even mentioned that he hit is 4000th hit with the Expos. And its not as if such a milestone is an occuring thing. Only 2 players have reached that plateau. I just like to see the proper accolades be given to the atheletes that deserve their achievements without the bullshyte moral highground. PS: Im not even mad at the Astros for using garbage cans and cameras to steal signs. Why? Stealing signs in baseball is PART OF THE GAME. So they used cameras and garbage cans to hide them... Its too damn bad they thought of it first with such a clever idea. Maybe coaches could protect their oh so phoquing precious signs better...

  6. Its a Canadian Pontiac so he wouldnt really approve of it. Its got a Chevy 409 and Chevy chassis so it may seem like its a cool car, but I bet he'd tell you it aint a 2+2 Catalina 421...

  7. Love the driveway, should have it all pressure washed in the spring to be nice and clean. I do that with my large driveway, always nice to keep it from being slimy in the spring or fall. Reminds me of @balthazar Pontiac, I wonder if he ever finished the motor rebuild and got it on the road?

  9. Interesting at the four minute mark, they talk about why Electric cars are better for beating a hurricane. My niece and her father have decided to say put right in the path of this. Bunch of family in Florida. My hope is that they are okay. My good friend greg in Tampa had 3 foot of water in his house with the first storm, my fitness coach had her house damaged heavily also. It's gonna take some time to rebuild from all of this. Chris More mellow female vocalist goodness...
