  1. Yeah, the weather, recreational opportunities, insane amount of diversity, culture, and networking opportunities are all such massive drawbacks. I kick myself for it every morning.
  2. That's so funny...most women actually like it to hang down back so it's "tidy" and "hidden" while most guys prefer it more accessible, i.e. hanging off the front.
  3. "Full expressway" isn't a very descriptive term. Is it a freeway or not at that point? Freeway = complete grade separation, no at-grade crossings. That's what matters, because "when conditions permit" applies far less to a freeway than a non-freeway. The man thinks it wasn't 65 yet.
  4. Ew, Notre Dame. Well, if you want your daughter to suddenly think she's part of the fabulosity crowd and gain a delightful sense of entitlement, then by all means send her there. Oh, and as you will find out, they keep their students in the same dorm for the first three years. Drama, much? Also, the priest who teaches one of the core, general-ed science classes tells his students that Muslims have high rates of forehead cancer from "banging their heads against the ground so many times a day" inducing cell trama. He never addressed the logical follow-up question regarding Catholics and knee cancer. I know quite a few people from that school, as well as have a family member who certainly became a whole new person after attending there. For the money, you can do much better.
  5. Well, according to the law, he was impeding the normal and reasonable flow of traffic. If you're just going for a Sunday Drive, take surface streets. Stay off the freeway. EDIT: May/may not be a freeway...can't tell where he was driving, but it could just be a 4-lane divided highway.

    What if

Oh, and I'm pretty sure that Doane has the same right to post as Camino in expressing his annoyance. He's not exactly censoring him, guys. Let's dial the melodrama back from Level 12.

    What if

Continue to live in SoCal, where even in the $h!tiest times we can still go to the beach and eat really good (and cheap!) ethnic food. I still don't see the point of this line of thinking...this rephrased question makes more sense, but c'mon, my grandparents lost everything in the Depression and then also gained it back, coming out ahead of where they were. If they could do it, I most certainly can what with the technological advances of the past 80 years.
  8. Perfectly calm, here, Z.
  9. That's mindless passivity, and it does not garner respect. One can be assertive, and respected, without the aid of a submachine gun.

    What if

+1 ...and the fact that the doom and gloom threads are so frequent makes me doubt that you, Camino, are simply an idle thinker and not an anxious worrier. This is a post coming from a place of maturity and reason. Bravo!

    What if

Resigned and weary people don't make threads beginning with "What if things don't get better?" That's a worry, fed by anxiety.
  12. "Tough on crime" politics have proven, time and again, to waste money, fail at deterring crime, and lead to overcrowding of jails across the country with petty criminals. Have you not been paying attention for the last two decades?

    What if

+1 Camino, you can live in constant fear/anxiety of every little unknown on the planet, or you can realize that life is far too variable to predict every little uncertainty, and that being at peace with yourself is far more productive than being constantly vigilant and anxious over the rest of the world. One path will lead to far greater happiness than the other, more torturing path. The choice really is yours to make. "Worrying is like sitting in a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but in the end you won't get anywhere."
  14. First off, where do you get off thinking that I have some kind of rose-colored glasses on about the nature of the world? Obviously, the mere presence of this headline involving this girl suggests that we are NOT in a civilized society. The rest of your post isn't really worth responding to.
  15. I'm not really feigning anything here. An eye for an eye is ancient because it isn't civilized. Eye for an eye ruled during the same times that people were stoned in public and crucified on crosses. You're certainly not suggesting anything radical, but you are suggesting something that civilized people simply do not do.

    Dumb.
  17. You miss my point. She got enjoyment out of torturing a kitten. You are expressing a desire to (i.e. derive enjoyment from) inflicting physical pain to her. And now that she'd be "put in her place" (what, as Bertha's "special girl"?)...I just don't see the difference. Whether she did it and you did not, I don't understand the getting enjoyment/feeling a sense of vindication/justice having taken place at inflicting physical pain on this girl. I just don't get it.
  18. No, but you called for physical pain against her...for starters, which is pretty outrageous, still:
  19. 80s rocked. Best. Decade. Ever.
  20. Sport Tourer or Megane. Really, just pick the ones that aren't available stateside in any iteration.
  21. You can be a huge cat/animal lover and still maintain a level head. Do not ask me how I know this.
  22. Perfect.
  23. Yes, as the owner of 4 cats, I clearly know nothing about them. What does that even have to do with anything? Even if she came over and killed MY cat, I would be extremely angry with her...furious probably, but I'm not going to call for her execution!! What the hell is wrong with you people?!?!?! Bingo. A life is a life. So many in this thread condemn her for taking a non-human life, and then want to take her life for it? You don't like someone, so they should be dead. That's sick and twisted. Wrong. Cats do NOT depend on humans for welfare. Cats are not dogs; cats can and do take care of themselves. Even those who have spent their whole lives inside a house--the hunting instincts never go away. Hmmm...yes, clearly she is the incarnation of the devil, purely evil with no conscience whatsoever. Can't be mentally ill...no way, that would be too complicated for our overly simplistic view of the world.
  24. Of course I believe in the Karmic concept...but isn't Karma that good/bad things happen to good/bad people? Karma will take care of itself without a bunch of hot-heads taking matters into their own hands.
