  1. Real Jeeps do not get good gas mileage. Why would anyone want to add an average of around 20 MPG to their lineup that has to achieve a CAFE of 35 MPG?? I think Jeep and Hummer will be extremely downsized in the near future. Why does everyone think that all the auto companies want to buy Jeep? Why would GM want to buy Jeep? Do they not have enough trucks and SUV's? Jeep was huge when the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee were some of the only SUV's out there, but everyone has SUV's (and crossovers) now....and people don't seem to even care about off-roadability. What has the Jeep brand done to any of it's owners?? They have all failed or gotten into trouble so far!
  2. The thing is, I like all different makes of domestic cars. I even like the Camaro as much as I like the Challenger. I'm just not blind to all of the things that the GM fans don't see....and I don't go around mindlessly bashing everything that's not a Chrysler. I do, however, mostly stick up for Chrysler when it is mindlessly bashed. The Camaro looks like a bloated Hotwheels version of the 68', just like the Challenger looks like a bloated Hotwheels version of the 70'. Maybe the Camaro is more modern or futuristic looking due to the sharp creases, but it's still almost as bloated.......and guess what, I don't find anything wrong with that! All people do on here is bash, and I call those people out on their mindless, or unfounded complaints.
  3. Are you seriously comparing the handling, weight, luxury, and price of a sub-compact (as classified by the EPA: Yahoo page) BMW 335i to that of an EPA classified "Intermediate" (I'm assuming between mid-size and full size) Challenger??? That's just a crazy unrelated comparison! That's like comparing apples to basketballs. The sub-compact luxury 335i weighs 3580 lbs, with a 109" wheelbase and 181" overall length....and only has 300 HP. The intermediate sporty Challenger weighs 4100 lbs, with a 116" wheelbase and 198" overall length....and has 425 HP. The sub-compact Beemer also costs $2K more. A closer Beemer (but still smaller), the 550i sedan (EPA class: Mid-size) weighs 3968 lbs with a 114" wheelbase and 191" overall length....and only has 360 HP. All the while managing to cost more than $20K more. Please try to keep all comparisons sane in the future. P.S. .......and just for your enjoyment, Car & Driver already tested the heavier Charger SRT-8 and the 335i for a "Quickest Sean Shootout". Guess what car took top honors??? You guessed right....the Charger SRT-8. Not only was it quicker than the 700 lb less 335i....it also had a better skidpad or "Roadholding" result. 4. That is clearly a Plymouth Horizon, and not a Dodge Omni!
  5. So which is people?? Does the car look too much like the 1970 is does it not look enough like it?? All I heard before is that it looked too much like the 1970.....but now all of a sudden, it doesn't look enough like the 1970?? Let me guess.....you're looking for any excuse not to like it....cause your only GM fans?? I hate to break it to ya folks....but the Camaro is exactly the same way. Granted this is the concept Camaro, but as we've seen, the production is pretty close. All cars are "bloated" compared to cars of the past. You can thank the government and safety regs. for that:
  6. Also, a little edit to the price of the 08 Challenger SRT8, per the official press release: That's a sticker price of under $38K!!!
  7. First, the person complaining didn't say they just wanted different color panels. They said they wanted a full luxury interior befitting a $40K vehicle, like it was just some regular $40K coupe or something. Again, name a luxury coupe with 425 HP that you can buy for $40K......name any coupe with 425 HP that you can buy for $40K?? You are seriously comparing the 0-60 of first run Challenger to the GT500?? Why don't you wait till it gets a manual transmission next model year, and while you are at it, you could also wait till the SRT has over 500 HP in it's next iteration (next model year). Then I think you will have a more fair and accurate comparison to the GT500. You could also say that the more mainstream Challenger R/T with a manual transmission and 380 HP 5.7L is going to totally own the more mainstream Mustang GT with only 300 HP.
  8. You keep making statements about this being a $40K car.....but it's also a $25K car. In the $40K version, you are mostly paying for a huge engine, and performance upgrades to the suspension, brakes, rims, tires, transmission, and exhaust. You are not buying a "luxury" vehicle. You are buying a sporty coupe that has a ton of power. There is a reason why they also make the Charger and 300 SRT-8's. If you want them to upgrade the $40K SRT-8's interior to meet your $40K expectations (for some reason you forget about the cost of all the performance enhancements), then your $40K SRT-8 Challenger with a completely different, "special" interior, is now like $46K. Most people who want a Challenger SRT-8 will not change their minds after seeing the interior. It's a non-issue when you are mostly paying for the 425 HP. There are no 425 HP vehicles that you can buy for $40K, other than another LX vehicle. Shelby Mustang come the closest at $42K.
  9. I like the interior enough. I wasn't that in love with the concept's interior. I just wish they could have used a different steering wheel. I also wonder if the R/T version will get silver around the radio and climate controls instead of the carbon fiber. I wonder if that would look better by giving the interior more contrast, and looking more like the concept.....for those that really liked the concept. However, I don't think the production interior would dissuade anyone from purchasing the car if they were interested in one. It could actually convince people to buy it if they use nice materials. And for the people that will say it's the same as the Charger.....it actually is quite different. Not so different that you can't tell the cars are related, but if you look close, I don't think it shares any actual interior panel pieces.
  10. Yeah it looks like it could, but that's still a pretty high lift-over height. No problem for me. It just wouldn't look right if they tried to make it open down into the bumper more.
  11. New pic from Autoblog. Check out that trunk lift over height! I give them credit for making such a non-ergonomic trunk for the sake of keeping it looking like a muscle car. Like someone that buys a coupe is really looking for practicality.
  12. Lets get back on topic: I hope they spruce up the interior a bit. At least don't use the same Charger steering wheel.
  13. The Viper looks way more like a "race car". Well laid out gauges, and very minimal distractions. The Viper has always meant to be a street going "race car", while the Corvette was made to be a very livable sports car. However, your comparison is of a Viper that hasn't really been updated since 2003, and the brand brand new upgraded 2008 interior of the Vette. When you see the pre 2008 Vette interior, it's not all that impressive.....and this is the Z06 interior, because I couldn't even find a pic of a regular interior:
  14. Alot of people seemed to like the Compass Rallye at the autoshow. There were alot of people who never saw the Rallye package before, and were surprised to see it was the Jeep Compass. One guy that sat in it after me said that his girlfriend had a black Rallye on order: I would probably consider one after the interior refresh. Now if they would only put the SRT-4 powertrain in it with the AWD and a 5-speed.
  15. I'll ask my friend when I see him next! I've been meaning to talk to him, to see if he has any info on the new interiors.
  16. They already have one. They just need better materials and more contrasting and different textures/materials.
  17. I don't know the exact rules about it , but I think they can make 2009's in February. My 2005 300 was made in May 2004, and they had been out for a few months before I got mine.
  18. Wow, that was damn quick. I guess things really do happen quicker with a private company. I'm guessing there will be more contrast, and probably better grains on the plastic, and/or more soft-touch materials utilized.
  19. The Challenger is just continuing from where it left off in 1974. They can update it as they wish with future generations. The Camaro, on the other hand, had evolved stylistically, and then went back to 1967 for it's design. So, it's my argument that it's actually more retro than the Challenger. They could easily add a bunch of sharp lines to the Challenger and make it more modern-retro just like the Camaro.....if that's even still popular in 5 years.
  20. Another pic from Dodge's Canadian website:
  21. Check this out........ROUSH Challengers??? These appear to be pre-Roushed though.....unless it's all under the hood?
  22. I'm gonna guess that a base 3.5L will start at about $24K.....maybe $22K or $23K, considering that they are planning on using the 4-speed instead of the 5-speed thats on the Charger SXT and 300 Touring. They really do need to get close to the V6 Mustang's price of $20K.
  23. Well, what about GM's Japanese, Korean, and Chinese balls?? Small cars are not profitable for American automakers, which is why they get someone else to make them for them. Before you say anything, GM buys engines from China. Sorry couldn't resist.
