  5. perfect timing for Chrysler. Just as they are sitting down with the CAW to negotiate more cutbacks so they can get a loan from the Canadian government
  6. On my way to work this morning, about 7:30am (on the 401 near the 404 for those who know Toronto) still half asleep, I looked in my rear view and saw an oddly familiar face. It took me a second to realize what it was and, well, I think smilies can best sow my reactions, I went from to to to It was an inferno orange SS in the wild Yes I pinched myself and no it wasn't a dream. The guy (who I assume is a GM engineer) was giving here a good run, about 130kph, and I kept pace so I could take in as much as a could. All I can say, is wow, that she looks just as good, if not better, on the road, then they ever did at the shows, and the sound...oooohhhh the sound.
  7. maybe its just me, but the resale value will go down the tubes for any product from a company that has filed for anything that has bankruptcy in the title because most people don't know the difference between chapter 7, 11 or any other. All they hear/care about is the is the word "bankruptcy"
  8. not necessarily. public sector employment up here fell 1.2% last month. while the unions like CUPE might keep large layoffs form happening, new hires will probably go down.

  13. that would require a bunch more money GM doesn't have since they'd have to modthe a chasis, redesigning the battery back so that there's room for the driveshafts, diff, rear axle, suspension while keeping the the charge capacity the same, etc
  14. The obstacle isn't thats its an electric, at least for the loan Lutz was referring to, the Advanced Technology Loan, its that it doesn't have any new advanced technology. At least in the sense that there is no new technology going into the Converj that isn't already in the Volt (as far as we know at least) . Since the loan is for specific technologies and not actual vehicles, and money from that loan has already been allocated and used for the advanced technology used in Voltec powertrain, which the Converj would use, there would be no new funds coming available from that specific loan program. Thats not to say it might not get funding from the other, more recent bailout, or further bailout money that would come from Obama
  15. I don't like it, but I can see where they are coming from. For now I will give them a pass because tough decisions have to be made. Last time I checked, the 300's weren't exactly selling well. My buddy at Brampton said the shipping yards were filled with unsold vehicles, and the sales numbers seem to bear that out as well Now if in a few years, when times are better, if GM doesn't go back to RWD, then all other things being equal, I will say ciao.

  18. the military has a term for putting divisions up front....Cannon Fodder on a side note, I was chatting with my g/f who said she'd never own a GM and I mentioned how she had said in the past she likes Saturn's, well low and behold, their old marketing gimmick worked...she thought Saturn was an import haha

  21. basically the article boiled it down to 3 points -supply chain problems. they share many suppliers who would go down causing problems -loss of dealerships because many dealers sell both foreign and domestic -economic downturn. would lead to a severe reduction in sales -new competition. loss of the big 3 would open up the market for companies like Chery to come in and theoretically eat away at Toyota, Honda, et al
