  1. I actually can see a very valid use case for you Robert to have an EV over ICE unless you go with a specific Hybrid truck I am thinking of, but since you like SUVs like me, I could easily see you in an SUV EV max battery pack so that you have an excellent back up battery if the power is lost due to a winter storm at your new house. If memory serves me correct, it looked like it had gas or Propane stove and furnace so you can cook and then an EV would be the backup for power use. I do realize that a Propane or Natural gas generator would also make sense and then stay with an ICE. Thoughts?
  2. Very cool modern take on a Eldorado https://www.hotcars.com/2001-cadillac-eldorado-new-version-render/ Modern 21st Century EV Cadillac Eldorado Coupe?
  3. GM Leads $50 Million Funding Round in EnergyX to Unlock U.S.-Based Lithium Supply for Rapidly Scaling EV Production https://pressroom.gm.com/gmbx/us/en/pressroom/home/news.detail.html/Pages/news/us/en/2023/apr/0411-energyx.html Very cool about GM investing in every step.of the supply chain to bring down prices of EVs.
  4. Due to the price of raw materials for batteries, unless they can truly mass produce solid-state batteries on common materials, then Leasing will become the new norm as the need to recycle rare earth materials will have a big market. Interesting times we are entering for sure. On the flip side, I am seeing more and more stories about EV conversions of old autos. 5. @oldshurst442 @Robert Hall I do like the LYRIQ physical buttons for the HVAC system. They are toggle up and down for heat or cool and then just press to make a change. Then you have the touch screen or rotary dial.
  6. Totally get what you are saying and agree that it does need to be simple. One thing I have not had a chance to test myself now have I seen anybody actually talk about is the HeatPump replacing traditional heaters/A/C units. Tesla says they blow air constantly on the windows so you never have to deal with fogging windows and with heated seats that you are warm without needing the heat or cold blowing on you from dash vents. I would be very interested to know if that is true and yet then we have LYRIQ, GMs first implementation not only with the SnapDragon system but also with a Heatpump. Yet GM is still putting in Dash vents. This would imply to me that many folks still like cold or warm air blowing on them in addition to the windows. FYI, Just read that the Chevrolet Equinox while it does not have traditional dials or switches, the row of graphical images are haptic feedback buttons to inform you that you pressed that spot.
  7. @Robert Hall @oldshurst442 The comparison of the Snapdragon modules for auto use tends to imply this is a terabyte system that is freaking fast. Product Listings: Chipsets and SoCs for Automotive Computing I Qualcomm I wish I could get a straight answer out of GM about this since they originally were moving to a massive Gigabyte backbone powering the current generation cars and trucks which has made a difference, but the SnapDragon that is in the LYRIQ is the first use of this Terabyte system. If they have not cut corners anywhere in implementation, then this would imply a very fast interface, thus reducing the finger smashing of the screen. I will say that all the reviews of the LYRIQ for 2024 are very positive with a quick snappy interface and as this review clearly states. Everything you want to do via the screen or the few physical buttons on the center stack can be done via the manual controls on the steering wheel or the rotary click wheel. 2024 Cadillac Lyriq Review, Pricing, and Specs (caranddriver.com) I think for many folks used to a more manual type auto, the future will give them some frustration. But for the younger generations, it will not be an issue.
  8. Interesting is that the Hummer and the Black n Red Blazer SS EV have actual real switches / buttons along with a touch screen where the Chevrolet Grey and Black which is the launch interior for the Chevrolet Equinox EV is all touch screen only. Kia and Hyundai have a mix of real switches/buttons and touch screen where the Tesla, Ford Mach e and Leap Motors from China all have touchscreens only. All of these all run on Qualcomm Snapdragon Android auto system. I have to wonder how much will change since we saw the first Jeep EV Dash in the Avenger since they are now going to use the SnapDragon system too.
  9. @oldshurst442 @trinacriabob @Robert Hall it is interesting to see the various dash interfaces and how more expensive have real buttons. with touch screen over all touch screens for lower priced models. GMC Hummer EV Leap Motors

  11. Investor Day at Qualcomm had a few surprises, 89 Auto companies have signed up to use Qualcomm Snapdragon in their EVs and a quiet join is that Toyota has now agreed to move their ICE and EV autos to snapdragon. Smart Cars & Connected Car | Qualcomm Automotive Technology | Qualcomm It would seem that all of Asia is on board as both Hyundai and Kia are using it in their auto's along with all of Japan, Europe and America. Qualcomm believes just like Intel they will continue to improve their Snapdragon auto packages every year constantly increasing power and throughput for the best user connected experience. Cadillac Lyriq is using last years Qualcomm Snapdragon system, but the 2024 models as they start to produce them will be migrated to the new auto version. This pretty much tells me that each year you can expect the latest auto to have bleeding edge technology that will make one have to decide just how much power / technology do you want in your auto.
  12. Seems all of Germany will now be on Snapdragon and Google as Mercedes in September 2022 signed on to the Snapdragon Auto controller system for their new 800V EV platform following GM leadership. 13. Qualcomm Wins Yet Another Major Automaker With Its Snapdragon Digital Chassis, Stellantis, With 14 Brands, More Evidence That The Diversification Strategy Is Paying Off (forbes.com) Stellantis was the last of American brands to sign on to using it across their full portfolio last year. Very interesting to see the latest generation of Snapdragon Auto Qualcomm Raises the Bar for Connected Car Technologies with Next Generation Snapdragon Automotive 5G Platform | Qualcomm This will make it hard for anyone to compete with them if they do not have a massively superior platform. Will be interesting to see how the various Auto companies with Google implement this. Qualcomm Highlights Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC And The Best Concept Car At CES 2023 (forbes.com) Based on their news releases, seems more than 30 current legacy auto companies are all using the Snapdragon Auto platform. Smart Cars & Connected Car | Qualcomm Automotive Technology | Qualcomm Based on this, it would seem anyone that thinks they can find something other than the Snapdragon Auto platform with Google will be SOL. Ford, GM and Stellantis is all in on this as is pretty much everyone on Japan other than Toyota that is assessing what way they will go for their new EV platform. Everyone in Germany except Mercedes at this time is using the Snapdragon Auto platform for controllers. China is pretty much locked up by Qualcomm as well for the EV side, much less for the ICE side that is drying off fast. Seems that Apple has been snubbed by the auto industry leaving people to 3rd party head units that still support traditional Android Auto and Apple carplay.
  14. Excellent point made, they are still $11,000 higher than the original starting price.
  15. Yes the Downtown Seattle to UW to Northgate is all underground. Very clean, quiet and nice to get around.
  16. Like you I have no reason to go into Seattle, but with the growth here and so many idiot drivers that do not know how to drive in rain or snow, Google Maps to avoid accidents and congestion caused by accidents is a need now. Crazy, used to take me 20 min to get from my house to where my parents live in Kirkland and now it is a 1hr drive due to the idiots that do not know how to drive and congestion. @oldshurst442 I used to do the USB thing, but the older auto's that have media seem to also have some of the slowest terrible designed systems to make it just not a good experience. As such, I have found for the $9 a month I can enjoy commercial free Spotify that I build on my desktop so many mixes to enjoy everything from Jass to pop, K-pop and classic rock. I have come to really appreciate the Spotify service.
  17. I understand where you are coming from as I have friends and coworkers who are all about the Apple Universe. My son and Daughter are both heavy on Apple, yet I am as they say behind the times as while they both have apple everything in the house and the amazon doorbell ring system so they can see who is at the door anywhere in the house. I have nothing like that except for my android phones. My wife is not a tech person and as such, I am her tech support as she is finally all in on her Samsung Galaxy 22 with using the calendar and phone book rather than her old manual pen and binder. So getting her to handle other tech changes is rather hard. She has become used to plugging in her phone since I replaced the deck in her SS so she can have google everything. Has come to love it. Like you, I totally get this change to the Qualcomm auto system as it gives a massive computer system to run the auto that will be lighting fast and even Tesla has embraced this approach as what they use is a customer Qualcomm system that they are moving away from to move to the cheaper qualcomm system. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Qualcomm has on their website that they had invited Apple and Google at the start to join in the co-development of their auto Controller system, Apple choose to decline and focus on their own auto. In this regard, I think Apple failed to realize that they could have had a massive impact on the future of autos, and it could come back to bite them in the ass. Instead, Apple choose to over the last decade Sue in court Qualcomm over their tech and failed loosing out many times which has led us to this point. I believe Apple is going to walk away from the auto market and focus on other things. How this works out for Apple fans will be interesting to see. I think it will go for some like my kids that have no problem connecting via bluetooth to existing systems like my kids do in their Jeeps GC autos. For others, I suspect they will turn to when they buy an auto, then stop off at a 3rd party show for an aftermarket deck that supports Apple Carplay.
  18. I understand, I no matter what am like you that I learn and know my surroundings and it is amazing how many people cannot tell you which way is north, south, east or west. Basic knowledge is lacking in many people. Yet with that said, I always log into my google maps for one important feature, the notification of speed traps and basic freeway traffic updates to find faster routes to where I am going as you can learn all the streets and back roads, but with today's cameras everywhere at least here in Washington state, I am able to save massive time by finding alternative routes that are faster and even then I usually know side roads to cut through to make those options faster.
  19. Latest Light rail Map, Service to Lynnwood begins Feb 2024 as they are still building north and south as well as across the lake. Currently light rail is running from Northgate to Angle Lake south of the airport. Service begins later this year from Seattle, across the lake to Redmond. 2022 Progress Report | Sound Transit In regards to the King County property tax, it has run amuck as they have the state tax, county tax, city tax as the base of it and then they add on surface water management charge, City of Seattle drainage charge, fire protection fee, King Conservation District (KCD) fee, and the noxious weed fee. I know they have additional Other Charges too. It is crazy the taxation in that county. I am watching Snohomish closely as they are considering additional taxes, but the County rules require voters approval, so there is far more ability to keep things in check rather than political run away spending and taxing.
  20. That could give little kids a nightmare or extreme joy. This is an interesting read and explains allot of why the auto industry is going away from Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Will be interesting to see how this works out for them. Colin Barnden on LinkedIn: #carplay #android #auto #infotainment #smartphone #processor #snapdragon… | 64 comments What are all your thoughts on this? @Drew Dowdell @surreal1272 @Robert Hall @oldshurst442 @trinacriabob @smk4565
  21. Snohomish county is on a tax hike focus the last couple of years and I think it is really focused on dense living areas as all the cities here are focused on building retail/office space with apartments all around the lite rail stop points. King County is crazy, my neighbor who he is like me a computer engineer and his wife is a dentist was wanting to move further out but due to where his wife works in downtown Seattle, they bought a house in Issaquah, an old 4 level house built on the side of the hill in 1978 and in need of a massive remodel. He figured would not be hard to do, after 2 years of owning it, but not living in it as he worked through the process to remodel, his property tax bill went from 21K in 2020 to 37K in 2023 and the process to remodel by the city was so crazy and extensive as he supposedly lived in a special drainage area due to being on the side of a hill that they went and made the yard look nice, painted the inside and unloaded it at a loss to an Indian single guy that will probably bring his parents over. King County now has some of the highest property taxes in the nation right up there with New Jersey. It is crazy and folks are leaving King County cause of it.
  22. Condo's in Bothell and Woodinville are crazy priced now too. It really is a crazy market here in Washington. My daughter bought in South Everett a 2 bedroom 1,000 sq foot condo. I totally repainted and did everything inside, still have a few things to finish but this was at the end of 2021 and her condo does come with a 1 car garage. Bought it for $300,000 and now the county has her condo assessed for $376,000 in only two years. Crazy prices and looking online your right small condos are now around 400-450K in the Bothell / Woodinville area. Totally nuts.
  23. That is great, I know my house I am in I bought in 1999 and was $145K then, now the county has it valued at $770K Crazy price. Yes, the best thing is being able to paint, make changes, etc. to the new place and then move in, then prep with a solid cleaning and any updates you feel the old house needs to maximize selling price. Making it move in ready always gets top dollar. Good luck my friend.
  24. All of them have potential, all need a modern update. Like you, I like the property with the lake, but needs much work and I see all the rooms have electric baseboards which I am not a fan of. Either natural gas furnace or forced electric hot air furnace for the whole house, the baseboard heaters just scream dated. I like what you bought very much, though I did like the middle house with the huge brick fireplace and tv viewing area, that was nice. But you can always build things like that into any home as you remodel, update, etc. Best of luck Robert with the packing and move. Excited to hear more once your moved in.
  25. The biggest Marketing and Fake claim move idiot Musk has ever made.
