It is a 4.7l replacement for the NorhStar. One major refignment would likely be Direct injection. I believe the Ecotech (2.0,2.2,2.4) is getting Direct Injection in 07 or 08.
  2. I was figuering a chopped 6.0. The 4.3 is old tech. It's on it's way out. Or maybe the 3800 bored and stroked since that has been updated lately and is a 90 degree engine. Not a NorthStar, too expensive and I believe they already had a V6 version (ShortStar) that didn't last very long.

I would love to see GM bring out a SOHC but I don't see them doing it. Unless that is the reason for the hold up on the 3 valve. I don't think so though, as the 3 valve cam in block would cost 1/3 the money of a SOHC. Plus with the VVT tech and all...but ya never know..It would make sense to distinguish Caddy from Buick and so forth instead of just de-tuning all the time, like with the Vortecs.
  4. Honda not selling? Um.............Good
  5. The yen getting weaker won't effect the Toyota plants in the USA. That's why they're here. These are no longer imports my friends, but USA made Toy-otas. Unfortunately the profits all go back to the MOTHER LAND. Mama? :P
  6. Anyone? I heard one person besides me mention it.

The designs of the current Northstar between FWD and RWD are sgnifigantly different. In order for the RWD to work they had to redesign the oil gallories for better cooling. I don't know if they just did it across the board or just for the RWD, but I do know they had to do it for RWD. I used to work at the Tonawanda Engine plant (Transfered to Van Plant) and I remember talk about the ecotech getting direct injection in 07. I'm asssuming that may big one of the major upgrades of the Ultra v8. I'm very impressed with the duramax deisel (which is where the direct injection tech came from-I believe) in our vans. I heard they were going to offer displacements of 6.4 and 6.9 in the future which makes sense as our vans have to DE-TUNE the Duramax in order not to kill the Trani. The Allison is much too large to fit in the van. It seems a waste to de-tune a 6.6 down to 225 hp when you can lower the displacement and save more diesel.
  10. The problem with these companies aside from foreign competition is that the big shareholders who are the executives never cared in the first place about the company's longevity. Their main concern was to get the stocks high (by not re-investing for decades at a time to keep up with the foreign competition-Jack and Roger Smith) and cutting and running. These companies knew times would change from the beginning and they broke promises with the very people who were in it for the long hall....The workers. I don't believe Jack Smith worked at General Motors for 30 yrs. The UAW has for years worked in good faith with all the industries only to be lied to again and again, while ENRON types like the former execs. at Delphi (which caused this to be a crises in the first place) commited fraud and have not paid any penalty. Meanwhile these delphi workers will probably loose everything and file Bancruptcy, but they don't have the luxury of the former bankrptcy laws that delphi made sure they filed under. Thanx to Miller.
  11. I have read somewhere about a 4.6l v6. I'm guessing a chopped 6.0 like the 4.3 was a chopped 5.7. If you hear more about this 4.6, send a link. I've searched the web, but nodda, and even nodda 3. lol It would be a good cost effective move for GM, and the 4.3 proved itself over the yrs. Especially when they added the ballance shaft which is where I believe they got the idea of where to put the extra in-block cam for the upcoming 3 valve design. Let's hope they get that out before Ford goes to a 4 valve.
  12. I believe this could be good in time, But if they rush it, it will be just as problamatic as GM's earlier adventure into DOD. Remember? That beautiful cadillac 4,6,8? I love new technolgy, but as they say..."Chrome don't get ya home". If it was up to me, they'd still throw in a hand crank just in case....
  13. GM trucks are still the longest lasting trucks in the industry, and let's not forget...the cheapest to maintain. When a toy-ota needs a new muffler, it's generaly alot more expensive than a domestic. That's how they get ya. If you want to buy a new vehcle every 3 yrs. than stick with the imports, but if you want to someday pay it off and still have a few yrs. of reliability and no payment (I know I would like to invest my $400/month somewhere else-like my house which gains equity) then the domestics are clearly the better long term choice. The rags never talk about that. And why do people need their cars to be as comfortable as a freakin hot tub anyway? So they can fall asleep at the wheel and smash into me? I have a stripped down 05' Silverado. Not one problem so far (1 yr.). I love it...I'll be driving it for atleast ten more unless gas is so high that I'm forced to upgrade for better fuel economy. But if it's paid off before then, the $400 will hopefully still be way more than the adjustment for gas.
  14. GM makes alot of cash by not updating their vehicles. After 3 yrs. the equiptment is paid for. The rest is all proffit. In 1999 when most models were terribly out-dated GM's prfits were soaring and their stock price was near $100 per share. Remember Jack Smith's $7 million bonus? Unfortunately, this short sightedness (greed?) ultimately cost market share and put GM well behind in Technology. That's why GM has spent so many billions of dollars in just the last 5 yrs. They've had alot of catcing up to do. I see Jack made it into the Automobile hall of fame though. Poor Wagner has had to clean up his mess and gets all the blame. Those ROBOTS Jack bought in the 80's? 90 percent of them were taken out a few yrs. later. That's not entirely his fault-the tech just wasn't that good at the time, but thinking that the people don't matter in terms of quality was a horrific mis-judgement on Jacks part. Wagner recognized early that people do matter and should be treated with respect. For this reason I hope to GOD he does not get ousted. He has shown nothing but respect for the UAW and has never once blamed them for the top brass' mistakes (FIAT, and now Subaru-although Subaru was more FUGI's paranoia). In any event atleast he was smart enough to hire CAR PEOPLE, and not BEAN COUNTERS like both of those passed a-holes named Smith. Thanx Rick :metal:
  15. I just don't understand if Miller is soo smart that his only plan of action is Chapter 11. Maybe if he had a better turn around plan or one at all....GM would have bailed Delphi out. Maybe GM knew his track record and said "Why should we bail you out? You'll just pocket the money and file Chapt 11 anyway. Could this be why he "Doesn't Blame GM". I'm no genious, but even I could have come up with the brilliant idea of Bancruptcy. And what happened to those guys who cooked the books? No jail? Just resign with a nice severence package and we'll forget the whole thing. :alcoholic:
  16. I hope the 3.7l I5 atlas engine will be enough to compliment any other refignments made to this truck. I believe GM did not go with the I6 for the simple fact that they set out to have each ATLAS engine (I4, I5, I6) as equall in production as possible. However, I have read that they may add the I5 at the Flint plant (which now produces only the I6-Tonawanda produces the I4 and I5 curently) due to the H3's popularity. I can't help but wonder if maybe they should offer the I6 in the pickups to off set the I5's demand (H3) and pacify those who want more ponies in their 355's. I'm not an engineer (just work at GM) but I can't believe the I6 wouldn't fit in the 355's as it does in the 360's. Just my thoughts... :AH-HA_wink:
  17. He took good care of those guys that worked at Bethlehem Steel and handled RAW URANIUM and got cancer like my Grandfather real well. Took away their pesions and health care....Yup he's a savior alright. Go work on an assembly line for 10 hrs a day for 20 yrs. and then give your opinion! We all know what opinions are like and I believe you are one of them.
  18. They must bump it to a 3.7 if they plan to use it as a base for the next gen GMT 900 pickups. But I saw somewhere an obscure artical about the possibilty of a 4.6l V6 as a base engine for the next gen pickups. A chopped 6.0? like the 4.3 off the 5.7? If anyone else has heard of this 4.6 and has a link please send.... :CG_all:
  19. Not, sure ... maybe too expensive. But the inlines were designed specifically for trucks. I've also heard the inlines ( atleast the I-6 which is of the same family as the I-4 and I-5) may get DOD in 07. I don't believe the high feature V-6's have that. Now the new 3.9 with VVT and DOD?....240 horse without SC (like the 3800)? That might just work, especially for those who think an I-5 is wierd- like the old timers...
  20. I agree, unfortunately the word around the shop (GM) is that the next gen GMT 360's (mid size SUV's) will be bigger and drop the ext version-goodbye OK plant. I can't imagine how anyone will tell the difference between an 07 Tahoe and an 07 Trailblazer...especially as the front end of the new Tahoe is closer than ever to the current Trailblazer. I guess we'll have to see if the 355's (pickups) follow the same path. BTW I don't mean to use the ()'s to insult your knowedge of GM, it's for viewers who might not be formiliar...

I was reading (somewhere) about the 07 GMT 360's. It said they would feature displacement on Demand technology. Does anyone know if this is true and if these engines are designed for it or will be redesigned? I was under the impression it only worked (at this point) on push rod engines. The ATLAS family is DOHC. Thanx in advance for replies....
