  1. It was mostly billdeaner. Strange fellow, him. But stripping weight out of an SS is fairly straightforward work. If they choose to do a Z/28 or some similar trim they have a great jumping-off point.
  2. What I find most interesting is the weight numbers. GM is claiming an SS weight of 3685 pounds based off a base weight of 3908. Thing is, C/D had a test SS that weighed in at 3860 once. So, it is not outside the realm of possibility that a run-of-the-mill Zeta SS will weigh in at 3650 pounds. I predicted this elsewhere, some time ago.
  3. Here's the link: http://blog.caranddriver.com/2016-chevrolet-camaro-performance-estimates-and-more-detailed-curb-weights-revealed/ The concluding quote sums it up nicely: "soon we will be putting as many Camaro variants as we can on our scales—and through their paces at the track—to get figures of our own, but in the meantime, the takeaway is this: The new Camaro certainly will be lighter than the car it replaces, and while the weight savings came out of a car that was too heavy to start with, the sheer size of the weight deltas are impressive and bode well not only for straight-line performance, but also for fuel economy and handling, too." Incidentally, they're claiming 0-60 in four flat for the SS. Not bad numbers for a cooking-grade chassis and engine, wot?
  4. It wasn't so hot out today. On to the next thousand.
  5. Nonsense. There are no charge ports in the woods.
  6. I just don't get the obsession over BMW. They had their day; their day is largely done. It's a bit annoying to see unfold. Nevertheless, it is frankly amazing how GM refuses to let up on making incremental improvements year-over-year to their products.
  7. But that doesn't make any sense either. Bentley builds SEDANS that weigh as much as the Escalade. Don't think that the SUV will weigh much less. If 188 is achievable for an LT4 Escalade, it will be a relatively civilized 188.
  8. Because the G-wagen doesn't, probably.
  9. about independent rear suspension I gather...your post is referring to? And yeah, I agree. And Chevy/Cadillac engineers have done the most they could have with the rear suspension of a BOF truck... The reason why I say that...its because...its a BOF truck that weighs 5000 lbs or so...and handling...up until now, was not an issue to be addressed as handling was not a quality that GM nor its customers of these behemoths were asking... No no, not the solid rear axle. Just the concept of driving an Escalade nearly 190mph. If you throw enough horsepower at anything it will go faster. The question then becomes will going faster be something you would then want to do. 200mph vehicles with solid rear axles are possible. Aston Martin used a DeDion rear end in nearly all its cars until the advent of the DB9. But the height and wheelbase of a big SUV would be the big hurdles.
  10. The Malibu as it currently exists is a final vestige of the Old GM. It was designed during this time and it's final development was frozen during '08. This new one will be a much better indicator of what GM is capable of. It'll be fine.
  11. It's all theoretical really. But when you have rules and regulations impeding true progress, you tend to try to maximize what you can do in every single market segment you can.
  12. ...like this, for instance :D
  13. ...that was pretty good, actually
  14. Yeah, the G-Wagen is a complete brick. I'm interested in seeing what the Bentley's Cd and frontal area are. That will tell the tale for whether a 188mph Escalade is feasible.
  15. I got a downvote for a post about tire technology. Some folks just can't/won't play nice. It is a shame, but children will play, puppy dogs will nibble at heels, and trolls will troll however they can. By and large I downvote PR fluff. I will sometimes repost things I wrote that got downvoted with no rhyme or reason just because I enjoy laughing at trolls.
  16. You have five heights to work with: Off-Road 2, Off-Road 1, Normal, Aero, and Entry/Exit. The truck will only cycle itself between Normal and Aero, the others you have to do manually. It drops into Aero around 60mph and goes back up to Normal when you drop below 35 or so. It's pretty seamless at speed, I'd guess it takes about five-seven seconds to do its thing. It also self-levels for trailering. Very cool.
  17. Nice. I forgot about the SRT-10 Rams. They were insane.
  18. ROFL for getting the stinkeye for explaining how I used the voting system properly. Double points for being a man and explaining my actions in excruciating detail, like the poll says should happen.
  19. Actually, you read that wrong. Instead, you were one of the two who voted to NOT show past history with voting habits.
  20. I do. And by and large it is. The only thing you have to be aware of in my experience is when you enter and exit parking garages and whatnot. Go slow over speed bumps or your already bottomed-out truck will jolt you pretty good. Then manually jack it ASAP rather than wait for the truck to hit the preset speed.
  21. I just downvoted you twice in the make your own truck thread for being a PR-spouting advertisement for product that doesn't exist yet. You're welcome.
  22. Well, if we want to go by what could be available next year then I will spot you all that for an LT4. Of course, it's always "wait'll next year" with you. Yeesh
  23. If we are going strictly by pickups, my Frankenride would be: -Ram 1500 Laramie Limited body, air suspension, and interior. -GM chassis, with the 6.2 and eight-speed auto. If we were to include full-size SUV stuff here, I would go with something rather different: -Cadillac Escalade interior and front-end styling on a crew cab GM body. -Ram HD chassis, optional air-levelling suspension, and a dualie rear axle. -Allison-Duramax powertrain. Well, maybe the Cummins-Aisin. Flip a coin. -An extended-range frame-mount tank. I'm sure Titan would offer something.
  24. Yeah, it's a lot less humid out this way-both north and south. Spent some time in Toronto recently. It was nice, but I had forgotten about the humidity.
  25. Lots of Albertans head down to Arizona and Nevada. I haven't as of yet, but I'd like to get down to Vegas and Scottsdale when Barrett-Jackson is in town.
