MT Previews '16 Silverado: Steel Going, And Going, And...
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
I too am a bit perplexed by the slow buildup of the eight-speed (capacity issues? Production contract numbers for thre old six-speed?). But at least they're here, and based on what we've seen in the big SUVs they are quite effective. Several posts and one forum ago I was accosted by a troll moderator who was all excited because he thought the refresh would bring more aluminum, which would somehow justify Ford's lack of success capitalizing on its qualities in the F-150. I simply replied that if it happened it would be better-executed, but I only expected bolt-on components, if that. I haven't read a word about aluminum-intensive anything. By the looks of it I was right on that score, too. -
Because I have someone who creeps my profile and then says they're doing it accidentally (?!?) I decided to return the favor. When I did I nearly blew my drink out my nose. Their rep level is "lrn2internet." Wow. Keep on accidentally creeping me and maybe you can be terribad or something. Wowzers

VW News: More On the Volkswagen Diesel Mess

That link's not that good, really. I mean, it basically means that Ford's Super Duties are killing whole swaths of people every time the ignition key is turned. I thought they got that out of their system with the Pinto.- 22 replies

MT Previews '16 Silverado: Steel Going, And Going, And...

They're all pretty nice. The eight-speed will doubtless help with FE, keeping pace with the competitors in the segment and possibly beating them in the real world. Furthermore, it appears that GM still does not feel compelled to go aluminum-intensive to keep pace with the demands of the marketplace. It is not the most radical truck. But it is clearly the most successful one. -
Minor touch ups mostly, as the eight-speed continues to trickle it's way down through the lineup. Interesting to see the High Country undercut the competition on price so aggressively. It bodes well for the market-share Kings.

So. My employer has a pretty strict Internet Access policy. How about everyone else? What are you allowed to do on the clock?

...on a serious note, though: what the heck is wrong with Ford? This is A Ford Edge-based vehicle. It supposedly has like 45 more hp than the Edge, and more torque as well. It costs 63 grand in this "Black Label" trim, which supposedly gives you higher-end materials and a more discerning eye for the fine details. And it winds up being slower than the Edge on which it's based, with crap fit and finish. Seriously, Ford. Time. To. Wake. UP.

Oh my. You're RIGHT! ...it's like every single Ford employee has given up and now they just troll forums :D
-
Read Motor Trend's review of the Lincoln MKX. For 63 grand and a claimed 50 more horsepower than an Edge you get the same acceleration and worse build quality than an Edge. Yup. THAT'LL put Cadillac and the Germans on notice.

On further review, the headlights do kinda look like afterthoughts. But it's relentlessly square-ish as well. As far as the glass-covered headlights: I'm pretty sure there were laws against them. The Ferrari Daytona and Jag E-type had to change their look to sell over here.

The front end looks like the Frankenstein monster's face. No, seriously. It's rockin' the Boris Karloff look, big time.

Buick News: 2016 Buick Cascada Priced At $33,990
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
A nice little runabout. Would be nice to have more than six speeds for mid-30 grand. But hunting bimmers ain't what this thing's all about. -
The laws exist for a reason. Or perhaps reasons. Some of those reasons are noble, some cynical. But they exist. You can't put the horse back in tha barn. And even worse in this case, those laws can be met by existing tech. VW didn't even need to reinvent the wheel to make TDI work right. They just needed to not be so stingy.

VW News: More On the Volkswagen Diesel Mess
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in Volkswagen
As far as I know the only who compared Ford to VW was out redsident fordie. Certainly I didn't. Be that as it may, then riddle me this: if the emission of choice these days is CO2, then how does overstating mileage make an Al Gore-approved family feel about producing more CO2 than they wanted to? And all because a company lied to them about mileage? VW omitted an emission control that effectively eliminates NOx. But every single internal-combustion engine on earth will produce CO2, regardless of emission control system. So... pick your poison.- 22 replies

VW News: More On the Volkswagen Diesel Mess
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in Volkswagen
If they used urea then there's probably no need to-the engine is probably compliant. C/D just interviewed the boffins from West Virginia who did the testing. They also used vehicles like a diesel BMW X5 as a control. It used urea. It passed. The crisis is legit. But those who are shouting from the rooftops to disregard diesel entirely have their tinfoil hats on a bit too tight.- 22 replies

So. ...what you're saying is that because there are blatantly illegal engines pumping out blatantly illegal amounts of pollutants because they ignored the effective remedy (likely on grounds of cost), all Diesel engines are bad. It is a good thing you logged in as a visitor, because that is the kind of comment that would be downvoted into oblivion otherwise. Yup. Even by your impressive standards, this is a stupid comment.- 22 replies
