  1. Since you haven't, please don't. Besides, think about how much baby food and baby toys you can buy with what you would pay for that "art," if that's what you want to call it. Not only that, it brands you as belonging to an era. When you're older and you're at the beach or at the gym, people will look and say "oh, look at that (insert name of generation/decade)." The same is true of every decade's fads. No one would be caught dead in disco clothes (70s) or leg-warmers (80s). At least, people can discard those because they are not affixed to you.

  10. UPDATE: More unbelievable stuff. This morning I checked one of my e-mail accounts. The club president had e-mailed me the link to this lady's personal web page, asking me "what do you think?" What I thought is that this lady needs a doctor or a partner in a silk-stocking law firm. Oh - my - God. I wrote her back (the club president, not the lady) and told her "you know, a little TOO sophisticated for my minimalist taste." THE BOTTOM LINE: she also lost a regular and valuable club member by not minding her 'effin business. I won't be going anymore.

  19. Well, right, for single moms there are single dads. It makes sense. You have that major hinge point in common. But when a person has never had any kids, and doesn't want any, and not because I don't like them....then single moms are not the ticket. I'm NOT affluent, but who wants to leave their money/things at the end of their lives to someone else's kids? Not only that, it's amazing to hear single moms talk to you about their kids as if it's a "bonus" or something. I mean, I understand it, a good mother has her kids as the focal point in her life. But the operative word is HER kids. For the childless single male, the (divorced) single mom offers the following: 1) a kid who may never develop loyalties to you if they have a biological parent, 2) a biological parent that you may have to deal with when you probably don't want to, and 3) a mother who expects you to attend the kids' milestone events, bring gifts, and be financially supportive...yet God forbid you'd want to discipline them....not that that's on my front burner. Chalk it up to my conservative European Catholic ubpbringing, but nothing used to set off my parents more than seeing a few of my educated / career-on-track / reasonably handsome / never-married friends end up with a divorced single mom for their first marriage. My opinion does NOT make me popular. So I now keep it to myself in a "live" interpersonal setting. I've seen that 90+% of society, in an age where blended families have become the norm, does NOT agree with my viewpoint. In fact, they find it aggravating. On the other hand, single YET attractive childless women may very well have some intimacy problems...you can almost bet that the "1 in 7" that has been sexually trespassed upon during youth (statistic according to "the Book of Oprah") occupies that single childless category...and that's another head trip altogether. Plus, it's a guarantee that the sex will be marginal...or nonexistent.

  24. I've learned I love junkyards. About 2 weeks ago, the theater dimming on the dash on the '92 Regal went on the fritz. I walked into Borders one evening, had coffee for an hour, and came back to see that the dash lights were STILL ON. I had to pull the panel fuse every time I left the car at night. I contacted a couple of Buick parts departments and they told me the dimming feature and the "lights-stay-on for 30 seconds after shutting door" was in the expensive light switch...a light switch costing over $ 300!!! I had to go to Portland over Columbus Day, so I found several old Regals at several pick-n-pulls. Swtiches were generically priced at under $ 10. I just installed it...it was of the plug-and-play variety...and IT WORKS, dimming and all. I also found out there are only 3 (!) pods beside the instrument gauge cluster in this car: the light switch, the A/C controls and the radio, the latter of which was also replaced via junkyard for $ 35 about 4 yrs. ago. This all made me feel good after having to pop $ 250 + labor for a radiator that started to leak yesterday...oh well, after a quarter of a million miles.... Any good examples of kick-ass savings from junkyards?
