  2. You and WPBHarry...6 degrees of separation.
  3. If I don't go to the gym and see other people achieving results, I almost know for sure I wouldn't do it at home. The only thing I can think of that would be cool to have at home is either an elliptical or a NordicTrak to use for 30 minutes while watching morning TV before going to work.
  4. GAWD, the Mall is not the reason to move to Edmonton...or any city for that matter. It was big, but not that special....there were most of the run of the mill stores whose names you are familiar with in there. One thing, Polish Kris, is that the West is not very ethnic. This holds true for the US, as well. Leaving Philadelphia, NYC or Boston and going to Denver or even SF and LA means you lose a lot of ethnic flavor. Every Italian, Greek or Jew that moves from the East Coast to California comments on this. I think the same is true in Canada. Toronto and Montreal are ultra-ethnic while I did not pick up on this in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. Again, the East to West difference. Yeah, the political correctness ... you have to accept and tolerate everybody and all their BS...only to a point. As one friend says: "God loves you, doesn't mean I have to." Good luck with your decision.
  5. The Albertans need to answer this for you but I have spent 3 days in both Calgary and Edmonton on vacation....I have been to Vancouver at least 50 times. I think I would pick Calgary...Edmonton's inner core seems a little bleak compared to Calgary's and Calgary is closer to the Rockies which I think you can sometimes see from the city. Calgary seems to be a little bit more scenic and more modern. The people seemed to be very nice in both places. I know both are cold (colder than Toronto) but that Edmonton would be REALLY cold since it's further north. Then again, make the trip and decide for yourself. Don't even think about Vancouver. It has gotten so expensive and it is NOT multi-cultural like a Toronto where everyone is well-represented. Why do you want to leave T.O. anyway? I like Toronto. If I had to live in Canada, I think I would take Montreal.

  9. I belong to a chain called 24 Hour Fitness - very big on the West Coast, more so than Bally's. Some of them are skanky which makes me less than enthusiastic about going...I like a more low-key, well-maintained health club, but the price is right. My ideal schedule is (2 days/wk lower body +30 minutes elliptical) and (2 days/wk upper body + 30 minutes elliptical). I might also add another day or two of elliptical only. When I stick to it, I feel great and am at my ideal weight. Right now, with all the OT and a couple of night classes, I'm doing about half of what I should in this regard.
  10. I have very little compassion toward animals that can bite me or have me for lunch. In fact, living out West, one has to be careful not to run into rattlesnakes as you walk over boulders or around wood piles....and these critters are reputedly nonconfrontational. So, my tactic is to stay the f*** away from any dangerous creature. Period.

  15. I don't know. My 1992 had some nice stand-alone options that I preferred to get by themselves. Now, I would like to get the leather wrapped wheel W/O the audio controls or the telescoping wheel W/O the other stuff. But I can't. Still, LaX offers the wheels and the fold down rear seat as stand-alones.
  16. Bizarre. I was driving back down from Vancouver yesterday listening to the radio and at first, I thought I had wax in my ears. I thought the barbs were small. Some can get big. Evidently, this creature swung its tail and this lodged a barb into his heart. If it had been elsewhere, he would have been alive to tell about it. Still, he has been playing with fire for many years. Not to sound too philosophical, we've all heard "He who lives by the sword dies by the sword." This guy had an extremely hazardous line of work and I always wondered when I would read of something along these lines. Well, it happened. It's just that I expected it to be on land and with something carnivorous in nature.

  18. I've had my bouts with it. I can think of a few times when it's been quite debilitating. People need to get help and not sweep it under the rug. Most cases are mild and/or transient. Others can be downright horrendous from what I have seen/heard. It can also be endogenous or exogenous. The first means it's in your DNA and you have a predisposition to it. The second term means external stimuli bring it on. I once read that "lack of parental empathy" is one of the primary causes of depression in youngsters and teenagers. I would have to agree with that.
  19. Great! This is good news. Still: IT'S NOT A REASON TO WASTE IT!!! I've been to a lot of seminars on "green" buildings right now. Just because resources are here doesn't mean we shouldn't think about future generations. We need to be moving to other energy sources, particularly in our automobiles. I'll buy another 3800 equipped vehicle, or some facsimile thereof, but, after that, I want an alternative vehicle (hybrid, etc). We need to deal OPEC the hand they've been deserving all along!

  21. Did it sputter up the Grapevine? LOL.I saw something worth contributing. On Labor Day morning, I was driving from Vancouver to Portland to get my bags at Mom's and catch my flight. I saw an impeccably maintained 1975 Grand Ville convertible with the top down (no rain). I could spot that neat grille. It was black. It was going the other way or I would have fumbled for my digital. Then, it occurred to me: I saw the Grand Ville on Granville! Captnbooyah, where are you? This is one of the main north-south thoroughfares in Vancouver BC.

  24. I'm sorry, she's a trampy bitch. I can't believe people make her rich --- you can choose not to patronize her. But, most people are stupid. For those who think she's hot, would you bring her home to meet your parents or have her bear your children? I seriously doubt it.
