  1. G8 ST Winner Gets Torrent GXP Instead Joseph Warren, the winner of the naming contest, was originally going to get a new G8 ST as his prize for choosing the right name for the Sport Truck. Unfortuneately for him, GM decided to kill the ST, so this left him with a problem. GM told him he could choose any other Pontiac so long as the price was equal or less. What did he choose? a Torrent GXP. Yeah, I don't get it either. Follow the jump to see the full article. http://www.cheersandgears.com/index.php?showtopic=27758
  2. Remember when the Pontiac G8 ST had just been announced for production and General Motors had not yet chosen a name for its new not-a-camino? A contest was held, a winner was chosen and the Poncho sport truck got the ST suffix officially added to its base G8-derived name. Joseph Warren, the winner of the naming contest, was granted a G8 ST as his prize for picking the right (and seemingly rather obvious) name, but since that particular piece of sport-truckery has now officially been scrapped, he had to pick something else. His choice? A fresh new Pontiac Torrent GXP. Really, we're not making that up. His only direction was that it had to be priced equal to or less than what the ST would have sold for. He could be parking a desirable G8 GT in his driveway, but perhaps the Torrent's CUV bodystyle is a better fit for Mr. Warren's life. Your mileage may vary. Source: Autoblog
  3. Is the blower motor a bitch to get at in your car Satty?
  4. Oh really, well then it was just me then.
  5. Another fine example of GM's good decision making.
  6. That's what's confusing people I think.
  7. The Spark That Didn't in Detroit Apparently there was a bit of confusion at this year's NAIAS regarding the Chevy Spark. Despite releasing official photos of the car while the auto show was takimng place, it seems the actual vehicle GM had on display was the Beat. GM admits that they were planning to show the actual Spark in Geneva, and as it turns out the car on display at Detroit was the Beat concept. Seems like a good way to confuse a lot of people. Follow the jump to read the details. http://www.cheersandgears.com/index.php?showtopic=27755
  8. Earlier this week, when General Motors rolled out the very same 3-door Chevrolet Beat concept that it showed back in 2007, we were a bit confused. After all, GM's Ed Welburn teased all of America when he pulled back the tarp on a related (but clearly different) subcompact during NBC's Today Show (video here), only to trot out the same vivid green three-door that has been steadily making the show circuit rounds for some time now. Well, Kicking Tires has unearthed the back story, and evidently the tarp-pulling session with Matt Lauer revealed a foam model of the production Spark five-door. Understandably, GM couldn't very well drive a foam block up the ramp and onto the stage, so it simply left it out of its press conference and substituted the old concept. We thought GM might quietly put the five-door out on the floor later, so we checked back at their display during yesterday's supplier days, and unfortunately Chevrolet's stand never did get the mockup. Kicking Tires evidently had to place repeated calls to GM's communications team in order to get them to admit that they had pulled a switcheroo. Eventually, GM's Klaus-Peter Martin noted that: "...any misunderstanding was unintentional, and that the company had always intended to reveal the production Spark in Geneva." That may be true, but we have trouble understanding why the car was teased on national television and a press shot of the five-door was circulated with the Detroit Auto Show press release. Regardless of GM's intent, we look forward to seeing the production Spark in March, and eagerly await its arrival on America's roads in 2011. Source: Autoblog
  9. We're at a balmy 7.
  10. If the G8 was at the top of my list I would be willing to pay the actual cost of it, but I do want a Challenger more. I'm becoming iffy about the Camaro since NOS' report on it, although I still want one.
  11. You could toss in some hybrid and diesel options to make them more efficient too. But that would require using one's brain, and GM hasn't been doing much of that lately.
  12. It's probably 5 or so years old.
  13. Nope, these blessed words and phrases are gifts to us from the interwebs.
  14. I was told the Mercury wasn't too happy about being woken up this morning. Haven't run the Prizm since last week, and the other cars the week before. Hope the Prizm starts, I need it today.
  15. It's a 2-way street. GM's years of throwing rebates on half-assed cars to get them to sell has conditioned people to expect those rebates even on the good cars, but at the same time many people are cheap asshats.
  16. The Mustang has an advantage by being the lightweight of the 3 cars, so even though it's down on power it still can run 0-60 around 5 seconds with the V8. Also, I hear that despite the live axle, ride and handling has improved a lot.
  17. I could have sworn he said he would buy the car used not wait for rebates....maybe I just read it wrong.
  18. Pshh, it's -2 here.
  19. Here we go. 2000 Chrysler Nassau Concept. Originally a styling exercise, it's what became the working model stylists and engineers used to create the 300C. 300C concept. Dodge Magnum Concept
  20. Of course I can't find a photo of it, but the Nassau concept before last year's was what the 300C is based closely on. Oh and the actual 300C concept, and the Dodge Magnum concept (wish they had kept the steering wheel the concept had).
  21. Depends, Chrysler not long ago debuted production vehicles that were close to the concepts.
