Simple question: What were you doing when your car was new? My current family... 1972: I was a year away from making my earthly debut. 1976: I was 3 years old. I welcomed my parents' first Monte Carlo to the family, a 1976 model that I "claimed" as "mine" in later years. I was also a year away from my first open heart surgery. 1979: I welcomed my baby sister to the world. 1981: I finished first grade in the spring; started second grade in the fall. 1987: I was in middle school ... and had to say goodbye to my best friend who died of an asthma attack. Former members... 1988: I finished middle school and entered the world of High School. I first started thinking about having one of every single YEAR of the Monte Carlo. I later re-thought that ... with the goal of one of each generation, which I completed March 2002. 1997: I started my first full-time job, after graduating from college a year earlier. I also put my '79 MC Landau (first car) away for the winter and bought a new "daily driver". 2000: I was one Monte Carlo away from completing the family, having bought the '81 MC SC from my parents December 1999 and the '76 MC Landau a year before that; I've never bought a Monte Carlo brand new. I was still working at the same company, but had switched jobs in late 1999, about the same time I bought the 2000 vehicle. Health wise, I was (unbeknownst to me at the time) 3 years away from my 3rd open heart surgery. Many places (including where some friends live virtually "across the street", Briley Parkway, from the Opryland Hotel) are virtually unscathed. Well, if you can MAKE time to visit the Corvette museum ... DO. Paducah is a good town, too. I drive through there when I'm en route to Big Sandy TN. In mid-June, events dictated that my 1979 Caprice Classic and 1987 Monte Carlo LS/CL were at the house at the same time. The CC was parked along the street curb, and the MC was in the driveway. As my sister and nephew left, my nephew pointed to my CC and said, "Cahr....Cort cahr". My sister replied, "Yes." Then, she turned and pointed at the MC, "...and that is Uncle Cort's car, too!" My nephew looked at the MC, tilted his head, looked at his Mom, then looked back at the MC, pointed at it and said, somewhat hesitantly, "Cahr....Cort cahr." Since then, he recognizes either the CC or the '87 MC as my car. Course ... just wait until he sees the rest of my Monte Carlos.........LOL! Given the list of states you noted you are traveling through, I'm guessing you will be rolling through TN on I-24, correct? If so ... you might consider stopping in the Clarksville TN area (northwest of Nashville) or the Smyrna/Murfreesboro TN area (southeast of Nashville). I would classify the flooding in Nashville similar to the flooding you had 2 years ago. All of my favorite Nashville TN places (Cooter's Garage, Opryland Hotel, Grand Ole Opry, WSM studios, Hard Rock Cafe, etc.) had major flood waters.... O'Charley's ... they have the BEST rolls, imho . As for places to see ... depends on how much time you have.... It is hard to believe, but my nephew will be 2 years old this November. Watching him grow has been tremendously fun. My favorite story, thus far, happened earlier in June. I went to my sis/bro-in-law’s place to drop off something for my sister. I parked out front in the street and came in the side door by the driveway. As I opened the door, my nephew yelled, “Cort!” [He hasn't quite mastered "Uncle", it comes out ... "Unc ... Unc ... Unclcor"!] I heard my sister say, “How’d you know that was Uncle Cort coming in the house?” A bit later, we found out. As we were talking in the front room, my nephew walked to the front window, pointed, and said, “Cahr…Cort cahr.” He was pointing at my Caprice Classic.... Later, right before I left, he started saying “Cap…Cap…Cap…Capri!”, trying to say Caprice for me. Other "nephew corruption victories" I claim include getting him to say... ..."Dodge", which my sister drives (manual Dakota quad cab) ..."Arlo", which is what I called the Monte Carlo, soon after my parents bought their ("my") 1976 Monte Carlo when I was ~2 years old. While he hasn't said "Monte", "Carlo" or "Monte Carlo" for me, Dad tells me that he has said "Monte" for him.... For now ... I'm settling for Caprice, since he hasn't seen my Monte Carlos yet...! 3 pics of my nephew.... Driving his truck: Who...me? Uncle Cort is so silly! Sssooo...what melts everything away for you? Whenever I see my nephew (or drive any of my Monte Carlos or my Caprice Classic), all the troubles of the world just seem to disappear. Who or what does that for you? LOL! No worries ... I like those choices..... BTW ... changing my 3rd choice from the 2010 Ram to a Grand Cherokee! And, for the record, my 3 choices [all of which have NO connection to FWD] ... are assuming I have NO other cars. That's right ... *gasp* ... I would not have a Monte Carlo. But I'm not sure I could limit myself to just 3 cars...lol.
