A CLARIFICATION: I have been to Washington/Oregon, etc., before as part of our family road trips (Dad, Mom, sister and I) in 1985 and 1991 during which we did a lot of sightseeing; I just haven't been to the northwest US as part of one of my solo road trips.... The PRIORITY of this road trip, as all of my other road trips, is...people! IMHO, life is way too short to NOT meet up with people.... I can. In 2001, my grandparents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. At that celebration was one of my grandmother's HS friends ... who happened to drive her 1979 Monte Carlo to the events that day. Apparently, my interest in her car caught her attention enough that she asked my grandmother for my address. Two years later, about a year after my grandmother's death and a few months after I purchased my '87 MC LS/CL as my 5th MC, I got a letter in the mail from my grandmother's HS friend asking if I wanted to buy her car. She had to sell it. As it turned out, her son decided he wanted the car after all, so I never had the chance to buy it. But, I was shocked that she remembered that I wanted the car. Amen. It's like being a Chicago Cubs fan. They CLAIM to have a new owner (they don't) and they still are sponsored by Ch#$r%*et. You can't have a winning team when you start with that combination. With a few minor exceptions, the Camaro being one (though I can't afford it), I'm not all that excited about GM vehicles, which is very frustrating. On the one hand, it's good ... since I don't need/want a new car. Yet, on the other hand, it's sad because if I DID want/need a new car (which I kinda do), I wouldn't have anything to get.... *shrugs* I'd love fall if winter (salt/cold/ice) didn't follow so closely behind it...lol.
