Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
balthazar replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
Aren't CUE issues from 1.0, meanwhile Cadillac is currently on like 4.0? -
IMO, the Virgil Exner-overseen design of the '56 DeSoto face is comparable to ANY 'best' design out there of ANY era (especially the modern one) - it is so utterly tailored & refined but still has that aggressive edge to it.

Quick glance driving past an open gate- side view of a restored '53-56 Ford pickup, red with mini stake sides in the bed.

Isn't 'time' and 'location' merely social constructs?

The rear last 10-12" of the body shell was spliced in, but the bulk of the shell is original. Decklid & frame also were kept, but obviously a LOT of sheet metal repair & replacement.

I haven't felt bullied by either hardcore IC fans... OR hardcore BE fans. I just float... eternally looking forward to moving into the past.

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

^ Add to that there are commonly a number of restricting factors, such as hours-limitations, brand limitations, inoperable chargers (not uncommon), super slow charging rates... and one's 'number of chargers in area' options drops. -

Name: 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Duramax Category: Vehicles Date Added: 2021-01-06 Submitter: balthazar 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Duramax Dealer today said still waiting for order acceptance. States my timing was perfect; GM builds the trucks in runs (proper term: 'allocations') of a particular engine. GM is going to do a run of the 3.0L Duramax next. If I had missed that allocation, it might be 2-3 months longer wait for the next batch. Should get an update in a week or so that order was accepted.

Well, '20 is shut, and I didn't get the last couple items done on the above list. s'OK; I did accomplish other tasks not on there. Feel generally good. Working on my '21 to-do list. [ Meanwhile, I am still mentally dancing with clearing / dedicating space to enable pulling the engine out of the '64 meanwhile NOT allowing it to be a time distraction to the B-59. Going to check if the starter is locked up first and I have a new borescope enroute to try inspecting the cylinders again. ] • • 2021 • • finish tach housing / mounting finish driver's header drill for rear speaker mounting figure out front speaker mounting insulate roof finish revitalizing all window regulators gather parts to convert to manual dual master cylinder brakes route/mount fuel line bend/route at least rear section of brake lines route exhaust/mufflers (3" with X-pipe) (once header is done) get headers ceramic-coated

Cadillac has reported that "almost half" of 2021 Escalades are going out the door over $100,000. Cadillac also stated they sold 9454 Escalades in Q4 2020, tho that included some quantity of 2020 model year 'E's.

Spent about an hour hanging with my buddy & another guy in his shop, talking this year's project car goals and comparing our 2 cars ('66 GTO & '59 Invicta). The questions are; who will be done first, and whose car will be quicker. Hard to say at this point. Very therapeutic!!

That's like TEN buses. NYC alone has 10,000 buses. This is going to take FOREVER. -

I know technically you’re correct, but realistically; $39,995 before taxes, destination and ANY options isn’t “under $40K”. 5 bucks isn’t swaying anyone. -

Hey- that’s the same thing Elon said! Let’s see one of them actually do it. -
Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

Going from 402 miles of range to 406 miles of range via an over-the-air update is vapor; a non-tangible. Likewise, the O-T-A unlocking of software/hardware already installed is some sort of blackmail scenario. It’s like selling a new car with a code you have to pay a few grand to obtain in order to run the A/C. The only real advancement the 10-yr old Model S flagship has shown is significantly improved range, but that has been simply accomplished with more/heavier batteries (and higher pricing), not advancing technology. The existing infrastructure (not to mention the draconian environmental regs) make that unnecessary AND impossible. -
Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

Physically (within a segment), they’re as useful. But operationally, BE’s still have disadvantages (lack of public refueling in many areas, inability to ‘carry jerry cans of electrons’, a disproportionate range penalty in extreme cold). In a minority of user cases, that would negatively affect user-ability. -
Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

Well, all along the narrative has been “simpler to build with less components = cheaper”, but we’ve only seen the opposite of that. BE’s need to drop to no more than a 15% premium over the equivalent IC vehicle. That would mean a kona electric needs to fall from $37K to $23K... to be a unilateral real choice from gas. We’re not going to see a major consumer switch until that happens. But yeah; it doesn’t necessarily have to be cheaper.
