  1. As a verb, and applied generally-speaking under a marketing umbrella, ‘branding’ is somewhat nebulous. As a noun and applied specifically to the auto industry, ‘brand, has an established & well-defined meaning.
  2. How is it there’s suddenly confusion on terminology? ’Mustang’ is a Ford, ‘Mustang GT’ is a Ford, ‘Mustang Mach-E’ is a Ford, Mustang Mach 1’ is a Ford, ‘Mustang GT500’ is a Ford. Ford is the brand, not ‘Mustang’. Other that to make money (meanwhile devaluing the model cache’), there’s no reason to build a ‘Corvette suv’. Porsche doesn’t build their SUVs because they’re performance SUVs, they build them to keep the factories running/the lights on.
  3. 'SUV' isn't a model; 'Corvette' is. And while you specified 'Corvette SUV', it seemed to be more about the vehicle classification rather than the model name associated with it. While I'd like to see some sporting SUV trims from Chevy, a 'Corvette SUV' is not among my wishes. Not to mention, I believe the vast majority of Cayennes are driven in exactly the same manner as Tahoes are. Unless there's competition events featuring Cayennes I should be aware of?
  4. They like to think/proclaim they’re above everyone else, but it’s literally the exact same thing:
  5. Chevy doesn’t have half a dozen SUVs already selling like hotcakes? Porsche had none prior to the Cayenne.
  6. I'm coming to the conclusion that many of the OEMs are looking at strong support for EVs not only as a public image sort of thing, but as a chance to 'reset' the marketshare pie and get in early/gain market share. Because the actual market data in no way supports a mass (never mind an entire) shift to BE's. The '22s are out, it's 8 years until 2030, and BEs are 2% of the USDM.
  7. I'm sure, somewhere out there, someone is hoping & praying that mercedes doesn't revert to it's roots; a few vastly-underpowered, spartan & outdated sedans, and a 4-banger convertible 'sports car', with black rubber steering wheels from the bus division, an exposed gas filler neck poking out the rear fascia like a mail truck, and some of the worst body hardware engineering this side of World War II. I mean... it's probably come up in the board meetings...
  8. No one @ GM is discussing making 'Corvette' a brand. You'r post is a ridiculous snipe hunt.
  9. Oh god. No - these were in the rear section of an SUV, under the cargo floor, IIRC. How much wood is used in building a Tesla?!?
  10. Did they figger out a way to eliminate the wood lathe as structural elements, or is that ‘gamechanger’ still in the examination phase??
  11. Porsche ADDED SUVs, it didn't convert the 911 into one. Corvette = forever a 2-seater.
  12. To hit a price target. I also believe CVT's don't handle a lot of power, thus the engine pairings. GM has a 310 HP turbo 4, but you're not going to see it in front of a CVT.
  13. Ford reported a 70% conquest rate on the Mach-E; these aren’t ‘Ford customers’. Just like before the Model 3 came out, there weren’t any Model 3 customers.
  14. For some reason I thought it would be Jagger that went first (Richards is immortal). Wonder if they'll retire the band now. They should.
  15. [I think I've tried this sleight-of-hand once before;] While not remotely the same in construction, my B-59 had a variable-ratio, shiftless automatic; if I can remember back that far I didn't have a problem with how it operated/drove... but obviously we're talking about Buick Engineering vs. whatever it is hyundai/kia does. ?
  16. It'd be impossible to put $45 grand of performance upgrades in this car. 1/10th that should be enough. Well: talking about a purposeful burnout. I offered to 'show him how it's done', repeatedly, but he refused. Seems more worried about detailing products.
  17. Demon was illegal on the TRACK because it was too quick (under NHRA rules) to run without a roll bar. So it'd require a roll bar to make more than 1 pass. Tesla would be in the exact same boat- roofed cars can't track race without a bar if they're under (I believe it's) 11.00 sec in the quarter. Street racing and unsanctioned tracks would again be equal ground. That aside, and as far as mods- I doubt the module and a trans brake run into the mega thousands. Go ahead and add in a pulley swap for the blower under that. The Demon was $85K, the Plaid+ is $130K - give you 45 grand for mods. ? Well: talking about a purposeful burnout. I offered to 'show him how it's done', repeatedly, but he refused. Seems more worried about detailing products.
  18. Seems the only mods Tesla owners ever do is strip the complete interior out to try and get the car under 5000 lbs. (like seen in the above vid) I don't know if they can do anything digitally, but I'm not aware they can do anything physically to the motors. Loads of mod potential for the 807-HP Challenger; anyone serious about drag racing will get their car going quicker than stock. This is the same argument people try to make when they say 'a V-6 Camry is quicker in the quarter than a '64 GTO'... but unless someone has perfected a Camry-sized time machine, there'll never be a race between a bone stock GTO and a Camry. Look at my brother's car; a '68 Firebird 400 was 'only' good for around a 14.7-sec quarter mile. Last configuration of his car was still a .030-over 400 (406 CI) bolted to a PowerGlide 2-spd, running 9.6-sec in the quarter. Race/drag car owners don't keep things stock. Yeah, I understand the 'as it sits on the showroom floor' aspect, but that seldom stands long at all. A buddy of mine has a Hemi Challenger. He hasn't even spun the tires after owning it like 2+ years- what his car does in the quarter -for him- is irrelevant. Might as well be 18-secs- he won't run it.
  19. Sure. Current site talks about the '21 SRT Super Stock having 807 HP, going 203 MPH. Demon was 808 HP, had an optional module & a trans brake which enabled it to output 840 HP and go about 9.6 secs. Most of that 0.9-sec quicker time was the trans brake. I wonder how a line lock would improve the Super Stock's 1/4 mile time.
  20. Plaid + is 2 months old.
  21. Well, that's how things usually progress, car A is quicker, then Car B, then Car A (or C or D), etc etc.
  22. 5:00 mark :
  23. A Nissan Leaf just shouldn't weigh more than an 18-ft, all iron '65 Catalina 4-dr sedan.
