  1. ^ Well put, Perv. I see the argument from the 'internet forum contingency', and the handful of people openly shopping in the s-class segment, but EVERYONE ELSE shopping in all the other segments Cadillac is in, I just don't see them caring.
  2. RE the recent '66 Impala discussion.... these seats recently sold on eBay. They were from a '61 Starfire, but (pattern aside) are correct for '59-60 also (of note; they have full metal backs). There were 5 pics, but you absolutely get the picture of their condition. No tricks. Without checking the link / eBay, what would you guess a pair of '59-61 GM buckets, in complete but worn shape, would go for?
  3. '59 does have a chopped windshield, but the doors are correct. All Eldo pieces are in place, too... except the parade boot is custom (streamlined vs the factory piece).
  4. See, I have yet to see the 'trade-up' theory demonstrated. In fact, brand loyalty numbers strictly say otherwise. While I too would LOVE to see another grand Cadillac flagship in their tradition, I find the entire 'people buy a 1-series because of the 7-series' to be wild speculation. In other words, I can completely see the BUSINESS case for competing in the entry, mid, full-size, CUV/SUV segments, and still be totally competitive IN THOSE SEGMENTS, and forgo a few hundred/thousand units/yr at a huge loss. Again- I still am eager to see this proposed Omega flagship, and in the showroom. That's the emotional response...
  5. The wags are NOT going to take kindly to a 'rebadged Chevy' (a Cadillac AND Chevy Omega). Look at the claptrap we endure RE the LaCrosse / XTS for example here...
  6. Holycrap : lookit that '59 Eldorado....
  7. ^ hmmm, that is interesting... and I believe correct. We need a breakout of the split between the 2 now.
  8. I was looking at that very same thing (the hoods) and the Caddy hood is damned close too, but I'll bet subtle differences make them unique enough not to bolt in. I love these 'compilation of brothers' shots.
  9. I actually don't disagree with that, I believe they decided to brand it 'nissan' out of habit, not planning.
  10. Could be that, plus marketing choices. 444/380 5.0L could be in the F-150, too. GTR should be an infiniti, at least according to the number jockeys.
  11. MKS has a 355/350 tune EcoBoost, but is there any reason the 365/420 could not be installed? 420 TRQ is on par with the E550 V8's 443 TRQ.
  12. Ding-Ding, we were talking about cylinders/power, not trucks vs. cars. Vast majority of buyers don't know/care how much power or cylinders it has, as long as it feels 'peppy'. I would like to see the sales breakdown of the -say- e550 vs the other six V6 models- no doubt the majority of e-class cars sold are the V6s. You can't get a V8 in an audi unless you spend nearly $80K. (Sub-A8) Audi buyers can't read their brochures? These things are NOT important to 90% of buyers.
  13. I put about 4 hours on my mom's Cruze earlier this spring- it was a really well dampened, well controlled car. I would have no problem taking it on a long trip.
  14. Sorry, I forgot. 5.0L V8 3.5L EcoBoost
  15. Cubitar ~ >>"And with the thick pillars and tiny windows of today's cars, you may not see them until after you hit 'em...though rear view cameras and proximity sensors help."<< ^ I seldom drive forward on public roads in reverse, so (even if I had) RR view cameras........ ocnblu - pretty sure what's happening is that as cars get smaller & smaller & tighter & tighter, they just make us sit more upright. At some point we'll probably drive while standing. A camry will be 140" long, and 85" tall. Can't wait.
  16. Ford ~ 302 V8 :: 360 HP @ 5500, 380 TRQ @ 4250 214 V6 :: 365 HP @ 5000, 420 TRQ @ 2500 Nope, no competing there.
  17. What are you asking, exactly?
  18. FYI - a 58 CdV is 1.5-in LOWER than the current Camry.
  19. Leaves inside the side glass could just be trapped from opening/closing the door. I believe I see the C-pillar kick-up of a hardtop, the converts didn't have that. The rest of the clues posted here aren't definite enough for me. If it WERE a convert, I could see what appears to be the worse project being implied as the builder, but anyone who knows what a 425A car is should know that car has more potential. Really not sure which it is, and again amazed in 2012 that pics this poor can still be taken.
  20. My core favorite years are '59-68. Also have a strong attraction to the '57-58s. After that, I tend to float earlier. The '70s stuff does VERY little for me, and most everything after that grows increasingly dreadful. There are exceptions and qualifiers, of course.
  21. Light is not currently good in my study, so the pic isn't great. I've seen more than this, elsewhere, will poke around some more :
  22. Head is the same for all non-SD '61-62 Pontiacs; 538177, but yep, that's a 425A manifold. 425A cars were either 333 HP (4bbl) or 348 HP (3x2bbl) 389s, very strong performers, and not common. Silver Ventura looks to be decent, curious (via the photos) that the seller claims the red car is the builder. Complete powertrain in the 425A car plus the 2nd car is well worth the $4K, IMO.
  23. It's worth a half-grand in scrap. It's definitely worth a grand from what we see.
  24. It is, of course, erroneous to portray the name of the Buick model as a 'Riviera'. I like them all, a really do. Given free money (my choice of model/body style tho), I would buy in order : 1. Cadillac 2. Pontiac 3. Buick I would not buy the other 2, tho to rank them I'd go : 4. Olds 5. Chevy In terms of styling, I would actually rank the Olds below the Chevy, but the Olds has mad character and a funky dash.
