Largest Auto Recalls in History
Modern houses never give you more than 20' depth (neither do vintage ones). While this is fine for a modern cramped sedan and a rake & shovel, if you have a lot of sh!t or machinery or ANYTHING else AND a larger vehicle, things get tight IMO. This I've observed in some of my client's $3M houses. You'd think for money like that you'd get 25-ft depths and extra width, but no. There are no vehicles in my attached 2-car, and the machinery in the one bay will keep everything this side of a smart out. I would love at least 24' depth- gives you room for a bench and parts storage. My shop IS 24' deep, but with 18' vehicles and other stuff along the back wall, I could use more room. I'm thinking a big garage with some sort of covered walkway between it & the house would be ideal. I always envied 'parking in the basement', but the fire issue is not something I contemplated before.

cruise...control... fluid ?? -- -- -- -- -- WRT the Ford issue- I know my '94 F-150 was not affected- and I seem to recall it was because it didn't have cruise.

excitement and sassy duds
Surpised to see the GPs, the GV hardtop & the LeMans Sport convert; seems like every time I've ever seen a game show hawk a car, it's always akin to a Ventura or base LeMans.

New cars are so depressing
Dodgefan ~ >>"This right here. The thing is, and it may come as a shock, but the automakers aren't exactly rolling in money, so they've done just this to help save costs and make whatever money they can."<< They've been doing this for decades- early '90s AT LEAST. Things were relatively 'fat' then. Camino ~ >>"As for the rest, how many sedans of the same general shape do we really need? They are so boring, no "wow" at all."<< Agreed; once one comes to the realization that auto form design is over & done, AND you take in the massive proliferation of models from so many manufacturers... it IS depressing. Homogenization run wild...

New cars are so depressing
SAmadei ~ >>"Sure, I'd like to, as well... but we're in Jersey. And finding repairable vintage iron is getting pretty hard. Plus, some trim parts are near impossible to locate or repair right."<< Granted; I was only speaking about building one (or two)- but would like to hear a lot more about this :: >>"My current parts list is 90% complete and has a "new" 1969 Firebird shipping for about $60K. Thats with a 6x automatic, 500hp IA engine, Brembos, build subframe with Corvette parts, etc."<< Goodmark sells 400 hoods- are fenders available ? More, please...

New cars are so depressing
If removing PWs & replacing them with cranks voids a new cars warranty- that's yet ANOTHER problem with modern cars.

New cars are so depressing
whiteknight ~>>"That's the whole point here. In 1969, you could order a car anyway you wanted it. You didn't have to opt for a car costing thousands more than what you wanted to pay to get a V-8 under the hood. You could choose the base car, add the V-8, and drop all of the nonsense. You weren't forced into option groups and packages to get what you wanted while adding on stuff you didn't want."<< RIGHT ON !! SAmadei ~>>"I'd start building them for resale."<< I'd prefer to save an original, half decent car. For $30K you can build a kick-ass, subtly-modified version of vintage iron. 383, 6-spd auto, 3.23s, A/C, done.

New cars are so depressing
I would love A/C, PW, modern suspension/tires & a modern trans with a rebuilt iron V-8 and a period interior in a vintage (1960s or 1950s) full-size car.

New cars are so depressing
Dodgefan ~ >>"Clearly, the old days were nothing but rolling works of art. Also beside the four or five of you, most people want things like radios, air conditioning, brakes, power windows, etc."<< Ummm, yer "old days" only apparently go back 25 years there, sport. There's a HOLE LOOT MORIE back there than you seem to be unable to see/willing to consider. BTW : radios date to the '20s (IIRC), A/C to '51, PW to '49.... get the pernt?

New cars are so depressing
I agree with Camino for the most part. The only new product I can recall recently staring at were the Challenger, CTS, Ram and F-150/F-250s. And this is just from a lust standpoint- not taking price into account in the least. I have said for some time now- I may never buy new again (unless money becomes no object). The value there is terrible.

GM to Campaign Against Ohio Senate Bill 204
>>"...would allow auto dealers to sell foreign-made vehicles on the same dealer lots with GM cars and trucks..."<< This is currently not permissible ???? >>"...would prohibit GM from selling its auto parts to 6,000 businesses in Ohio..."<< >>"...force GM to pay the rent on dealership properties that have been closed because of fraudulent activities or the voluntary actions of dealers..."<< Makes no sense whatsoever. Very damaging... >>"...would halve the time that GM is allowed to perform quality control audits of dealerships to prevent fraud and ensure sound business practices...."<< Criticism depends on the current time frame, but this is still at least burdensome.

How to mix business & pleasure
>>"Documented with 2 build sheets and registration with the National GSX Historical Society, this completely restored 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 is the 39th car built in that year’s GSX production run. The Saturn Yellow Buick’s 455/360 HP Stage 1 engine is part of the car’s all-numbers-matching drivetrain, which includes a Muncie 4-speed and a 3.64 Positraction differential. Like all GSX Buicks, it benefits from Buick’s luxury approach inside, with bucket seats and console, a padded Rally steering wheel, tilt column, Rally instruments and clock and AM radio. "<< Sold this week for $130,000.

Texas board adopts new social studies curriculum
I don't see anything in the above piece to scream about. History/ SS texts have long been borderline shoddy, IMO. And yes- they've been far too skewed to the left for a while- some of the American history that gets left 'on the floor' in the name of pacifying global topics is a travesty, IMO.

Fyrewerx
Camino- but you have stores in PA- NJ is a 'sparkless' state. DF - "damn pigs" ??? Interesting & annoying 'town-to-town' scenario. Me- I have a great, secluded location to set them off, a mile off the nearest public road. Worked great 4 years ago.

Fyrewerx
Summer's coming/here, and inevitably, I have received my annual fyreworks catalog in the mail, despite (& in spite ??) of the disclaimer that NJ & DE residents cannot buy, transport, possess or operate fyreworks without a permit. Many years ago, a temporary co-worker got me a great grab-bag of fun, and about 4 years ago, a brief-cased sized box of them --that survived a to-the-ground building fire (they were in the walk-in safe)-- likewise provided more fun. I'd really like to get some more, and the catalog is SO enticing. Pyro-Impact, Big Bomb Jumbo Cracker, Red, White & Boom... sigh! Anyway, there's a few fyrewerks stores in PA, one in Easton.... any of you C&Gers planning on obtaining any? I cannot- I have a NJ DL, and one needs a PA DL in PA. Willing to drive to PA....

Who's packing ERs? Not the uninsured
OK- I re-read it, twice. To my eye, it's typical of a Gov-issued report: a mix of questionably-related statistics: > 1 in 5 go to the ER & 'most' of those 5 have insurance. > The uninsured & the insured visit in like frequencies. > Demand for the ER is rising, but there are fewer ERs and longer waits. > The majority of doctors believe Obamacare will increase ER visits. > The richer you are, the less likely you visit the ER. I just do not see the point of the article, period.

Who's packing ERs? Not the uninsured
Saying 'illegals aren't packing the ERs and most people who go there have insurance' is a major DUH! 340 million people, reportedly 12 million illegals, do the math.
