4. There is a great deal of revisionist thinking/writing on the past. Want another example- go read C&D's review of the '81 Cimarron- their review was quite favorable/positive. GO ask the same writers now what they think. In late '79 when the '80 Seville was introduced- it was the epitome of luxury; that's where the market was. BMW & mercedes had but slivers of segment marketshare & Cadillac was just shy of nearly 400K annual sales. I still have a fondness for the interiors in these (there was a '76 Seville and a '78 SDV in my family- different but similar interiors). I still remember seeing an all-red 'bustleback' Seville with the wider Elegante molding from above on a hillside, the lines were fantastic. Cadillac's undoing was a 3-punch: 1. the V8-6-4, 2. the diesels, 3. the extreme downsizing of the mid '80s.
5. turbo200: There are no universal truths WRT to subjective judgements. Even in this thread the assessments of the toyota are all over the board. It's not a matter of 'admitting what one "knows" to be true'; rather it's 2 different opinions and nothing more. "381 HP" is a fact. "Competitive ergonomics" is an opinion. In other words, you may 'know' it to be true, but that's you, not everyone. You tend to place (massively undue IMO) emphasis on interior materials. I do not. That doesn't make me a 'non-believer' or in a denial lockjaw in the least. This applies to you too, sciguy. If you happen to be interested; I could get thru your posts much easier if you would simply speak for yourself.
6. turbo200: Do you realize how often you do this: extending your opinion to 'everyone' else? This very thread is iron-clad proof of how erroneous that choice of wording always is.

8. If the foreign makes are here to stay and "American" because they say so, why no articles proclaiming how 'American' hybrids are leading the industry, or 'American' vehicles have excellent, class-leading quality & economy? Oh right; because segregation and national origin are trotted out only when they serve the 'damnation agenda'. Can't have it both ways, retards. These f@#king journalists are still calling Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge domestic and toyota American. I'd prefer to be informed by horny chimps. NEVER ONCE have I seen an article that quotes an American vehicle owner telling us why he would never consider a foreign make, yet the DetNews piece above must literally be the 100th example I've seen of random consumers beating and beating and beating and beating it into the reader's heads how they would never buy another domestic. Wonderous, eye-opening tales regarding the domestics, always including liberal useage of terms such as "troubled", "concerned" "suffer", "couldn't", "wouldn't" and --lest we omit-- "horrified". Spell-binding. Nope, not a shred of evidence, not a single example exists even hinting that the media is anything but fair & above-board. Not a whisp of bias, because, you see children; there is none.

10. >>"The 5.7 will beat the vorteck MAX by about 13 hp and 25 ftlbs which is a noticble if not huge margin..."<< I had a K&N filter & a chip in my '94 F-150 for a while- was said to boost HP by 13 and TRQ by 30- I was never positive there was a discernable difference. Talking about a 13 hp in 2 completely different trucks is irrelevant, tho those who bench race professionally will brag all day & night.

12. Nice to see a begrudging mention of the FACT that American brands have equaled or surpassed foreign makes (primarily the Germans), even if the reference was buried far below the catalyst ("...Big Three still suffer from the perception that their products are inferior...") It would be refreshing & a near public service to stop talking about the misconception, and write a positive factual piece highlighting the slip in quality of foreign brands and a repeated listing of reasons American consumers avoid imports. After all, it would be the SOP of the media to dwell on misfortune- they just need their antennas adjusted. Maybe some of the hypocrit consumers like >>""I just stay away from American cars," said Leona Drolet, an Ocala, Fla., resident and owner of a Korean-made Kia Sephia sedan. "I've had nothing but problems with them."<< will realize how utter stupid they sound talking about American vehicle problems while owning the absolute dregs of autodom (that is, untill the Chinese get here).

15. Of course, there is a tremendous amount of automotive "penis-wagging" out there on dealership lots: ferrari, bentley, AMG mercedes, tuner bmws, rolls, maserati, land-rover, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture. Unfortunately, all of those and their ilk fall short of the craftsmanship readily obvious in the EFIJY- so in that respect the car "should" be built; there's a market for it. What the EFIJY would cost to build as a production vehicle, is another matter.

18. This 'toyota is American' bull$h! is getting more and more ridiculous- surpassed only by the amount of people who 1. believe it, and 2. seeing it as having no consequences.

22. {thinking...} No quick answer for this one. Piercings.... in general, I don't care to see peircings anywhere on the torso and the tongue is OUT. An eyebrow or 15 in the ears doesn't bother me, nose is... OK...., but that's it. Few things disappoint me more than a dangly dime-store piercing in an otherwise delectible navel. Tattos I'm more tolerant of- it's much more a size thing. As a connoisseur of the line & form of a woman- a wide splorch of black permanent ink distracts my eye. Location doesn't matter, but I prefer they stay smaller than -say- palm-sized.
23. Right: every single toyota press release/public announcement/interview answer is The Complete Unvarnished Truth Devoid of Spin or Agenda. No wonder everything they do is so perfect and wonderful: they said so.
24. Hopefully, chinese cars in the U.S. will quickly be as successful as Yugoslavian cars were.
25. "de-barreled"?? The grille must look bigger than it is: it's from a '37 Olds F37. Those 6 lower louvers are rather distinctive (the Olds 8 have a different grille)- I have an article where the author reminisces about how ideal the louvers were for popping soda bottle tops. Of course, cars in those days were made of real, actual steel; no doubt the F37 grille could pop bottle tops forever without sheetmetal distortion. F37
