Hyundai News:2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Kicks Off A New Sub-Brand
balthazar replied to William Maley's topic in Hyundai
^ No problem. Buy whatever 'free' color it's offered in, then immediately take it to a professional paint shop- have it completely stripped down and repainted! It's easy!- 36 replies

Can't wait to see regfootball go bananas over that huge bodyside dent! Looks like a skid steer with a tilting bucket ran into it. Remember how he harped on thet tiny C-Pillar trim piece on the CT5? ?- 36 replies

2021 Buick Envision - where has the news been on this

In zero cases in my book. You of course realize what elevated stock prices do for the COMPANY, yes? -
2021 Buick Envision - where has the news been on this
balthazar replied to regfootball's topic in Buick
WRT General Motors : 40 years ago (1980), GM lost $753 million on the year. GM also had a record 618K employees as of '79, the largest private employer in the nation. By '86, that number was 816K (in 2020 it was 155K). That translates to one thing; a tsunami of near-future pension obligations. Couple that with the cropping up of foreign, non-unioned plants at the same time. If GM started up assembly plants overseas in this period, it was for survival, not 'gross profits'. -

2021 Buick Envision - where has the news been on this

I would lean towards the Envision over an Acura in this instance, but ultimately would have to automatically bow out of a 49% GM / 51% Chinese company vehicle and skateboard instead. More generally, I will always go with an American corporation over a foreign one. Ram is out for me because: Stellantis<FCA<daimler-Chrysler. Point of assembly is a much more tertiary point with me (and China-assembled is a HUGE strike in my book). -
Is he only asking because he's not getting a cut? Jeep undoubtedly has a legal copyright on the nameplate; they're not bound by anything legal to drop the name. I hope they don't, and the Cherokee Nation rep sees the issue more clearly. I've certainly heard polar opposite opinions from native Americans RE like symbolism. I tend to agree with that side, which has expressed it that cancelling any symbolism feels like 'eradicating' the culture all over again; as long as it's not openly derogatory, it's better than being invisible.

^ 1971 Corvette C3 ^ Musta been a battery-electric conversion with broadcast engine sounds; internal combustion cars aren't that quick.

Umm.... - - - - - I find no dishonor or negativity to 'Jeep Cherokee' whatsoever. I can see folk objecting to -say- Chief Wahoo; it's on the goofy side... but people who internalize a characterization personally obviously have issues coping. Not everything is about or a reflection of you. But objecting to the Land O Lakes maiden (completely respectful/complimentary) or 'Cherokee' strains credibility. There's a Harrah's Cherokee Casino in Cherokee NC; yes- it's part of the Eastern Cherokee Nation but what about a casino is remotely cultural?

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
balthazar replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
Dozens upon dozens of OEMs have been focused on 'properly engineering' sprung vs. unsprung weight for 50-60 years. It's inarguable physics, and the science behind the problem is totally defined. There's no undiscovered miracle engineering waiting to be released that's going to alter that. That said, it's not important in a truck. -
Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

Going to be even less in 2020 and after (at least for a few years). I put about 10K on my truck annually. -

Seems strange even to me to think of Merc in its own store. We've all probably seen claims which portray older generations as a lot tougher than more recent ones. In a lot of ways I believe that's true (for better or worse). Anyway, I thought of that when I happened upon this pic from 1936 :

You have to have a license to plant a bush for a homeowner, but there is no aptitude test or licensing to be a politician.

Lordstown isn’t going to make it long-term. -
Make it $10 trillion. No, wait; make all roads solar paneled & self-melting (yes; even in Death Valley). Make it 25 Quadrillion. Must. Eliminate. Any and all. Possibilities. Of. An. Issue. Of. Any. Sort.

USPS awards next gen mail vehicle contract to Oshkosh Defense
balthazar replied to balthazar's topic in Industry News
^ It's a pre-production / evaluation model. It doesn't mean that IF the one submitted for evaluation was IC... that Oshkosh cannot/will not provide BE variants. There's a lot more than just motive power under consideration for the contract. Dey all ugly, and all surprisingly similar. I wonder if it was a requirement to have a 'hood' vs. a flat front design? Aerodynamics is obviously not remotely a factor given the average speed a mail truck does. I'm curious now about the projections of a BE power train's range and running for an 8-hr day at a crawl. -

Has anyone seen a 'take rate' for the autopilot on the Model 3 or Y? -
