Blame the Japanese for Front wheel drive
big blue replied to cimastain's topic in Site News and Feedback
I'm in a Honda/GM family. Guess I must be a dickless turd knocker right? Try being a little less bias and more mature. Maybe you'll gain some respect around here. Stupid name calling like "Honduh" doesn't make or prove a point, at least try to make a decent statement. I like coming to C&G because its a big melting pot for car discussions, at least try to contribute? -
Blame the Japanese for Front wheel drive

My parents lived in Minnesota and Iowa for decades, RWD in the snow back in the 70s-80s was a nightmare for them. Now, he sticks with FWD even though we live in TX he still prefers it whenever it does freeze over. I've seen a lot of SUVs and cars spin out when it gets icy down here because people don't adjust their driving habits. Heck a Tahoe almost crashed into me by sliding and jumping the median, I was sitting in the left lane and had the great fortune of seeing that gold bowtie right next to my driver's side window. We used to have a 79' Olds Omega which during the TX winter, couldn't make it up any sort of incline no matter what the grade thanks to its beefyness and RWD. FWD is better for idiot drivers, and even then I'd take my FWD over RWD in icy conditions. Now if I want my performance, I'll take it in RWD or AWD flavor. -
Like the interior, it's pretty attractive. Hope GM doesn't stuff the parts bin radio into it like it did for the new VUE.

I knew the Silvy would overcome the odds. Looks really nice in that black.

Oh hah. Yeah I read your post last night and replied to it this morning. See what sleep does?

WOW! New real-world pics of the Outlook!

I definitely like the Saturn question mark and anthem ads. Whoever's doing Saturn's TV spots are great as the "Like Always. Like Never Before" tag line is already stuck in my head. I like these ads, they're distinctive, tell you the good features and fit with the Saturn image very well. These will definitely go a long way to getting buyers in and cars out. I've also noticed Pontiac has been pretty good between their ad consistency as well. Good job GM. -
It's Official: Commodore coming to US as a Pontiac

Good post. I agree, it really is too soon to be going nuts. That does show there's a lot of us that care about Pontiac but there's an even bigger portion of the population that doesn't care and hopefully this new addition to the brand will bring in customers one way or another. What type of customer? Who cares, money doesn't discriminate and neither will GM. Pontiac needs buyers so its future can be secured and that's what I care about. -
From what I've seen on recent Hondas, only the gauges are backlit, not the whole console. Yes they are for show imo. Does that make it a bad thing? I think they always have attractive gauges. Automatic Headlights are a feature of cars, not a problem or issue. Some people want/need them, others don't. An issue ABOUT automatic headlights would be the government requiring them on all vehicles or are they really worth the extra money? etc. Personally I smile when people forget to turn their lights on because they're in well-lit area. Then the minute they turn onto a dark road they realize what they've forgotten to do since leaving the parking lot. Usually though, if its bright enough for the idiot driver to see, then it's bright enough for other people to notice him too. As long as everyone else is a good driver around them.

Hah that's a good point I never thought about.

Was poking around the Holden site looking at the Commodore: Commodore site I suggest everyone go take a look at the site(driving passion was interesting) as it may swing your opinion in favor of the car. Looks good in actual motion I must say. Now I really can't wait for this thing to come over just so I can see/hear it in person. I'm hoping the pricing won't be too high as that was the GTO's downfall but unless it is going to be manufactured over here, I expect the price to be slightly higher than the Grand Prix's. RWD sedan for Pontiac...damn it's been a long time. -
I believe siegen replied to sarcasm with sarcasm.

That's also my fear. It IS a little bland and I'm hoping we can apply some character to the car. Although if you think about it the G6 has one of the blandest rears ever but the car is attractive enough to be Pontiac's best seller. So maybe the rebadged Holden might no do so bad afterall... -
I love how polar the Chevy is making people. I'm not worried though, just means people are actually taking notice and care about the truck even in these times of MPG importance. So far its only been me and roadwarrior who have liked the Silvy over the GMC...

The Sierra is the more classier of the two as others have noted so if you want something more traditional looking go for that. The Silverado on the other hand is bolder with the fender flares. The wide front chrome bumper reminds me of an athele's mouth guard. Kinda like the Chevy is saying "bring it on!" and is ready for the competition. Like a Rock indeed. Also noticed a difference between the grill of the Silverado vs. its 1500 counter part. The increased space for the 2 black air intakes is slightly taller than the half-ton version and for some reason it's more pleasing to my eye than the slimmer slits on the HD's smaller brother. Props to GM on the styling of both trucks, I like 'em both for what they are and I'm slightly inclined towards the Chevy(at least in photos) as it's nice to stand out in the crowd of the other HDs.

I'm definitely feeling better about GM, as this is the first time in awhile that I've actually considered purchasing their products. Once they start gaining marketshare and increasing the gap between them and Toyota, then I'll start feeling GOOD about them.
-
Seriously? That's just sad

That's good news. Speaking of the state fair, Big Tex just got hoisted up yesterday, ah its that time of the year again.

Well its been reported in Japanese mags on TOV's boards in the form of concept sketches. Although I'm pretty sure they're all just speculation, I'm pretty unhappy with the front end so I hope there's no truth to those rumors. I will say that the new CR-V front does look better in darker colors instead of the silver.
-
I really hope so. There's murmerings about the next gen Fit recieving that front end treatment
-
I'm definitely talking about the newer one. Although I do respect the current FCX's technology, its...not exactly attractive to put it delicately.

Ugh the LaCrosse is pitiful looking to me. It's reminds me of a fish with 4 eyes. I'd honestly prefer the looks of the Regal/Century to the LaCrosse, at least the car's predcessors had some dignity(on the outside). Top sedan picks for me from GM would be a G6, Impala or an Aura. The LaCrosse needs to be shot multiple times so then I wouldn't have to see that ugly front end and completely bland rear. Oh yeah, this is a Galant thread isn't it... Galant is pretty much an attempt at bold styling, but turns out to just blend in and look completely weird. No real reason to choose this over its Japanese or American competitors. I'm more of a fan of the last gen Accord sedan's styling, but the updated rear for the new Accord is a lot better than the 03-05(ugly!). The LED lights are a nice touch imo. The front end still bothers me though, its not ugly per se but, there's just something about it that doesn't make me go WOW, that looks nice.
-
I think i'm warming up to it, Edmunds has a few more pics which help show off the rear: Link I think it looks sleek and modern, the stubby front end is a little odd but I like the FCX overall.

Good going Honda. One reason why I prefer their products is they're an engineering driven company vs the Toyota domination machine. Anything that helps with a cleaner Earth is a win. Now where's my personal Honda ASIMO robot to get my drinks while I'm vegetating on my couch?

Interior is a lot nice than what I was expecting from DCX. I still wished they stopped using GREY in their interior colors, use black, tan or something else please! Grey is cheap looking. Exterior is alright, nothing ground breaking but slightly attractive.

That previous gen Bon does look better, its actually not too bad compared to today's cars. The weirdness of the SSEi's interior, although maybe functional was just overkill design wise. Someone was trying too hard
