  1. It would be very informative for you to review which C&G member has rejected nearly every suggestion about the future of other GM brands since the decision to cut Pontiac became official. I've always said that GM fans should support all of GM's iconic names including Pontiac.
  2. You forget, I posted this story last night - does that sound like I don't care about Pontiac? - but I think I can participate in this thread; I never said my opinion was better than anyone's; I never said anything against Pontiac, only posted what others had reported in the news; I tried to make my posts grounded in fact based on print reports, not solely on opinion like you offered; I haven't swore off GM like you did; I haven't been "anti-" everything like you've been lately; and I haven't insulted you or called you names like you did to me. And with that, I'd like to ask an administrator to step in and remind Camino LS6 to watch his manners.
  3. These are your own words, not mine. So, given what you've said, why does your opinion on ANYthing that GM does matter?
  4. Good point. The GM with many divisions, including Pontiac and Olds, is not the same GM of the present and future with Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac. Another good piece of advice.
  5. Since it was about a specific division, Pontiac, I think it belongs under Pontiac. It's not general GM news.
  6. Can you remove the other thread. No point in having two, and it belongs under Pontiac anyway.
  7. GM says Pontiac is not for sale, it must be phased out. Click here.
  8. They'll be around at least as long as GM is... you know... around.
  9. Sorry - that should read "The Buick family has a bad new boy." (It wouldn't let me edit it.)
  10. Could it happen? Should it happen? Click here. EDIT: Another report here.
  11. You mean he was a she? No, you mean Louis Chevrolet.
  12. Even if he's now 83, it's too bad his expertise wasn't called upon by GM. I'd add LeMans to that theme of "racing" Pontiac names. I personally think Buick has some cherished names, too, including Wildcat, Electra, Riviera, and Roadmaster. I'd better add Invicta and LeSabre to that. But NOT LaCrosse or Lucerne.
  13. Since I personally have seen enough of the red Regal pictures for awhile, I'd suggest to Buick that they show a Regal in black, the exact same angle at in THTom's post. And the caption? "Buick has a bad new boy."
  14. For all of the people who keep asking why Buick survived and Pontiac didn't, here are the facts said in yet another way... Fritz Henderson talked with Automotive News Editor-in-Chief Keith Crain, Editorial Director Peter Brown and News Editor Dave Guilford on April 3 in Detroit. Henderson said, "But in the end, if I remember chart correctly, from '08, Saturn was about 100,000 retail cars, after you pulled out fleet and after you pull out employee sales. And, Pontiac was similar actually." And Todd Lassa of Motor Trend offered the following statements by Mr. Henderson in a story posted April 27. "Henderson said Pontiac will be the last of GM's North American brands to be cut . . . 'I, like you, read lots of press about Buick and GMC ... it's disconcerting to me, because it doesn't make business sense, actually,' Henderson said. He reiterated that the two brands are 'highly profitable.'"
  15. BigPontiac: That's a neat image, of two hot cars. Thanks for sharing it and the article.
  16. I'd consider the Buick Enclave is their true flagship, though Susan Docherty referred to the new LaCrosse as the flagship.
  17. From Fritz Henderson via the GM Fastlane Blog: "The actions we’re announcing today position us for sustainable success by establishing stronger brands, fewer nameplates, and a world-class dealer network. They will also allow us to significantly increase our North American structural-cost reduction and dramatically reduce our U.S. breakeven volume, enabling the company to be profitable at today’s very low industry-sales volumes . . . The reinvented GM will unleash our talented work force to work within a cost structure unrivaled in the industry. Our product line will be offered within sharply focused brands that lead in design, technology, quality and fuel efficiency. Our dealer organization will be resized to compete in today’s world with a volume and profitability to provide a great customer experience. Our world-class supplier lineup will be capable of providing leading-edge innovation and quality. Our balance sheet will give us the stability and flexibility to move quickly on new products, technologies and marketplace initiatives. And at the same time, we’ll listen and respond to the people who matter most - our customers. Today’s announcements continue the reinvention of GM. I have every confidence that we will achieve our goal."
  18. I hope you get just the one you want! To my eyes, the Pontiac G8 is a really hot car!
  19. "The objective here is not to survive, the objective is to develop an operating plan that helps us win," said Fritz Henderson, GM's president and chief executive in a morning conference call. "It's a difficult period, it's a challenging period, it's a very painful period."
  20. I share with you my sadness over the closure of Pontiac. If I understand GM, it's by having a better and wider selection of its Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac brands. In the case of Pontiac, I think it will fall heaviest on Chevrolet to retain those customers. Also, market share, as a number, may not be the only goal; it would be profitability, too.
  21. "We just didn't have a strategy that we were satisfied with that could allow us to win with the Pontiac brand," Fritz Henderson said during a morning news conference Monday at GM headquarters in Detroit. "We could not provide the marketing muscle behind the brand," said Henderson, who said the decision was "tough" because "the brand has a considerable heritage within our company."
