  1. It doesn't appear that either you or Bloomberg.com have convinced CaminoLS6.
  2. Bloomberg.com has addressed in print what others have been wondering. To read their report involving the fate of Pontiac (and GMC), click here.
  3. OK, should they make it E-LECTRA, as in E-REV? Or just ELECTRA? I don't suppose there's any number of volts or horsepower or something that would prompt the use of ELECTRA 225?
  4. To my eyes, the Trans Am in the post by YellowJacket894 looks much more modern and, at the same time, much less like the present Camaro than the one in the post by SAmadei.
  5. The Autoblog story doesn't mention it, but the Motor Trend article, mentioned on C&G's front page, does: it looks like after the Chevrolet Volt and the Cadillac Converj, Buick will get a "Voltec" crossover. According to Motor Trend, "Our source says GM will follow up the Cadillac with a people-mover/crossover utility vehicle based on the Voltec architecture . . . As for the Voltec people-mover/CUV, our source believes a Buick badge is most likely . . . The Voltec CUV could have two or three rows of seats - the compact Delta platform is related to the midsize Epsilon II platform, so this model could be larger than the Chevy and Cadillac, with more battery mass to handle the extra weight." Which would you prefer: that they name it Buick "Electra" or Buick "Voltec"?
  6. You're welcome! In light of the news of this Buick concept, I happened across a report from Sept. 2008 about a "GM MPV" undergoing testing in Shanghai, and it was presumed to be the Orlando. While the two small photos in the bottom row show a vehicle which seems to be hiding a Chevrolet bowtie on the grille, I'm less certain of the vehicles in the two small photos in the top row. I'm not saying they're Buick grilles, because the pattern doesn't look it, but neither can I quite pick out a bowtie underneath the camo. Here's the story.
  7. Fancy that! In fact, Buick could use that Jalopnik photochop as-is, with just rounding that rear window to a curve, and I'd love it!
  8. < Wildcat licks his chops > ( There was no emoticon for that LOL ) P.S. - I know it's supposed to hold 7 people, but for some reason I'm under the impression it's a small vehicle length-wise. Is that correct?
  9. Again, this was just an image that Jalopnik made to go along with their story. It is not necessarily anything that it will look like, though I, for one, do like it.
  10. No, GM has denied any such sale. It came only from a (questionable) source in China.
  11. That image is, by no means, official. it's merely Jalopnik's idea of, roughly, what it may look like. To my eyes, a very modern Buick!
  12. Yowza! I'm in love! Jalopnik.com is showing a photoshopped Buick "Orlando," based on the Chevrolet Orlando concept. The Buick is to debut next week at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show. Here's a direct link to Jalopnik's story. I think their depiction of the Buick concept, in white with chrome wheels, is beautiful!
  13. I think the poll is consistent with what has been expressed in the past. Chevrolet is a more direct replacement for customers who presently own a Pontiac than Buick. And, logically, the poll shows "Chevy/GMC/Cadillac" highest with, at this writing, 10 votes; Ford next with 6 (and certainly some people on this website have indicated they will switch their allegiance to Ford, so that's consistent); BMW/Mini with 5 (reasonable, given that Pontiac was recently called, whether rightly or wrongly, an "American BMW"); a tie for Mazda, Nissan, and Chrysler with 4 each (Mazda and Nissan being sporty like Pontiacs are typically thought of by most, and I'm unsure if Dodge is lumped in with Chrysler or is left for Other, but since the Dodge Charger was compared to the Pontiac G8, that makes sense, too). Again, I don't think Buick is intended to be the direct replacement for Pontiac, so I wouldn't expect Pontiac owners to, all of a sudden, "switch" to Buick.
  14. I can only answer for myself, and I have NEVER criticized Pontiac. Please don't lump me in with others.
  15. You don't know exactly what GM is planning on doing, do you? If not, please don't condemn Buick without giving them a chance.
  16. I would have voted for Buick but I didn't like the way Chevrolet / GMC / Cadillac were grouped together and Buick was separated, so I declined to participate in the poll. Anyway, I think the idea is that Buick will "pick up the slack," as it was put, by having better Buicks and more Buicks... not necessarily being a replacement for Pontiac itself. Chevrolet will serve that purpose (for those who liked Pontiacs, Chevy is the next cloesest thing in their minds).
  17. Similar to its brand positioning, Buick has used the phrase "The craft of modern luxury" on its website. (Remember, they said Buick would get a new advertising slogan/tagline this summer, no doubt with the LaCrosse going on sale.) While I thought it would be "The craft of modern luxury," someone else suggested "Modern luxury illuminated," which I believe was used on some LaCrosse promotional literature.
  18. I had posted this already when GM presented its viability plan, and (despite what may become of Pontiac and GMC) I think it still gives an idea of how Buick relates to Chevrolet and Cadillac. Chevrolet: -Brand Positioning: • Expressive Value • High Value Appeal with High Retail Volume - Dealer Throughput: • Growing to match Toyota in large markets Buick-Pontiac-GMC: - Brand Positioning • Buick: Sophisticated Quality, Luxury and Craftsmanship • Pontiac: Youthful & Sporty – with niche focus • GMC: Engineering Excellence with Capability and Functionally - Dealer Throughput: • Growing to match Nissan in large markets Cadillac: - Brand Positioning: • Performance Luxury with Aspirational Appeal • Global Luxury Brand - Dealer Throughput: • Growing to match Mercedes in large markets The "brand positioning" statement explains it. In simplest terms, Chevrolet (good), Buick (better), Cadillac (best).
  19. Don't forget about the Enclave, now being sold in China.
  20. Again, you're giving opinion on the first part. And you're at odds with GM's stated intentions, to expand Buick's line-up, on the second. They've said Buick is a core NA brand. PC-S said Pontiac lost the "performance" claim to another brand (Chevrolet?). And PC-S also said Pontiac will be cut, it was a matter of timing. I believe he was also referring to Pontiac when he said, since Fritz Henderson's a money guy, which brand do you think he'll cut first? I believe he was referring to Pontiac. GM has already shown it doesn't care about Pontiac. They've damaged it further by saying it would be reduced to a niche player with one or two models.
  21. GM is a global corporation, not just NA. Where will the money come for investment in Pontiac? What role will Pontiac have?
  22. Please allow me to add my congratulations! (I don't visit the Lounge too often.) Is that sleek white BMW in your signature the car you're now driving? If so, pretty nice!
  23. The same things it will take for (any portion of) GM to attempt to survive: money ideas leadership bravery encouragement support luck I hope they choose to have GM "superstores," with all brands available at all locations; a greatly-reduced number of locations, too.
  24. I thought I read in posts on this very site that Cadillac seems like it's in a "retreat," from Europe... with the STS vs DTS or whatever... FWD vs RWD... blah-blah-blah. Like Fritz Henderson's words, all the involved parties are going to have to do whatever it takes. Chevrolet selling Pontiacs and Cadillac selling Buicks is okay with me
