  1. I was actually embarassed when the Buick Century episode was on. It was like they had no good idea what to do to it. (They pimped an AMC Pacer not long afterwards, and that stunk, too. But look at what they had to work with.) "Pimp My Ride" also did a 1957 Chevy truck, a big monster of a thing, for some girl, but I wish they would have restored it to original, but I guess that's not the idea of the show.
  2. Please don't post something like that and ruin the integrity of this board.
  3. Now wait... kidding aside, nobody said they killed it. But it's evidently under review. Maybe it'll just be delayed. AFTERTHOUGHT: Personally, I keep repeating Dylan's lyrics used by Evok about the badge; can't get the word badge out of my mind. Could this mean Buick would be knockin' on Heaven's door (by having so few models) if they consider the Epsilon II LaCrosse to be a rebadge of the Malibu and put off doing it? Or maybe I'm reading too deeply into the words.
  4. < Stan or Kyle > "You b*******!" Maliboom? :P Maybe they saw that hideous Popular Mechanics rendering.
  5. Is it true that Henderson is considered a "bean counter," so this isn't good news?
  6. Is the story that "Fritz" Henderson will replace John Devine as Chief Financial Officer of GM? Automotive News said this afternon that Henderson is 48 years old, and has run GM's operations in Latin America, Asia Pacific and Europe. He will be replaced in Europe by Carl-Peter Forster, president of GM Europe.
  7. OK, GM, there's your Buick Velite. Just add Buick badging, including portholes, and you've got a clean-looking car.
  8. There's a new, brief review of the Buick Lucerne which says that while GM aimed for Lexus, the bull's-eye hit Cadillac. The article appears in Automobile magazine.
  9. Oh, come on. Buick and Pontiac aren't full lines anymore. They're just pieces of a group. Don't you think GM channeled them up with GMC to prop them up while they get their product straightened out?
  10. And if GM is globalizing production, then it should be some amount cheaper to do things for all makes, and the minimum sales necessary for profitability should therefore be lower than previous, right?
  11. Remember... Buick-Pontiac-GMC should count as one division (sales channel), together.
  12. Perhaps when Buick's ad agency signed with "The Apprentice," they didn't know that it wouldn't be quite the same sensation with Martha Stewart as it had been with Donald Trump. Since GM was thrilled with the response to the Pontiac Solstice after it was featured on "The Apprentice" with Trump, it seems reasonable that they chose the more conservative "Apprentice" variant and hoped for similar buzz. We'll see - it depends on whether either of the two teams of potential apprentices (apprenti? :P ) have a good idea.
  13. Why do these investors and analysts seem to think that cutting one brand will be enough? Why not cut several? After all, Toyota (or whomever) only has ___ brands. Buick isn't a full line anymore, it's one-third of a brand, with Pontiac and GMC. Cut one and you cut 'em all! They're now strung together. So... leave 'em alone! GM must have thought making them into one sales channel made at least some sense, so leave that alone.
  14. quoting AH-HA: Seriously, Buick . . . should be deep sixed. <_< Gee, thanks. I thought you were one of the people who said the Buick Enclave was very nice.
  15. What kind of revisionist history is this? Buick has always been junior only to Cadillac. GM's hierarchy was, in order, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, and Cadillac. Mr. Robinson, Buick wasn't overtaken by Oldsmobile in the mid-'60s - both were fine; Buick had, to name a few, Riviera, Electra 225, Wildcat, LeSabre, and Skylark. In fact, to me, the mid-'60s were Buick's stylistic height! < where's a smilie face with a tongue sticking straight out when you need it? >
  16. It disappoints me that Wall Street and others are so insistent on having one of GM's brands become a sacrificial lamb. I honestly see GM working its way out of this mess, if they do it right and pay no mind to negativity.
  17. Sixty8panther: Tell your buddy Ross that if something major happens, Buick wouldn't be the only one to "bite the dust." GM itself will be through.
  18. I see some Mercedes in the drawing by Motor Trend. But AH-HA's 1:30 post here is the one to read.
  19. Sounds like a great night for you both! I know you're very excited about the Cama... I mean your digital cameras :P , but please be sure to go to the Buick display, and show us the Enclave.
  20. In the "On the Table" section of his Autoextremist.com website, Peter DeLorenzo has written very positively :) about the Buick Lucerne and Buick's new ad campaign, "Beyond Precision." He calls the Lucerne "a handsomely-executed, contemporary sedan that exudes style and offers tremendous value." Here is a direct link. (His comments are the last item on the page.)
  21. I wanted to mention I figured out what "NG" meant. I read these posts and normally, to me, "NG" means "no good." :P But it's "next generation." Again, thanks to anyone who contributed to this thread's information!
  22. Hogans Heroes: To say I'm excited by your posts would be an understatement! Thank you for being willing to share this information. (And I know ehaase wouldn't make an endorsement like he did lightly.) Around what date will GM have to decide whether to give the possible Buick CUV the go-ahead? Was that picture of a Buick grille, described on C&G as "LaCrosse Super," actually the Epsilon II LaCrosse? Does Buick still plan to use the "Super" and "Reserve" designations?
  23. I thought GM is in too deep of financial straits to have money to advertise and market two new brands of cars in NA? <_< They didn't seem to have money (or ideas) to keep Buick and Pontiac where they should be. Here's a visionary move --- make Buick what it once was. Never mind trying to convince Americans that they should buy an unknown quantity, a Holden, here. Use Holden's successes to revitalize Pontiac and Buick.
  24. Buick can't be just a "car" company - the market has shifted away. Who among Buick's targets is still just a car company? Lexus? Acura? Crossovers are supposed to be an expanding market, so I think it's great they can give Buick some of the action. Otherwise, Buick would be relegated to conventional thinking, big 4-door sedans, and we know where that will eventually lead.
  25. Hmm, don't be too hard on buickguy for suggesting the name "Invicta." I think there are many Buick fans who wish GM would use a name from the past. Disregarding what the specific vehicle would be, I like the name Invicta, and others from Buick's past. But maybe they're holding Invicta for a RWD flagship.
