  1. Are you absolutely sure that no competition will exist because of the corrupt activities? May be not in US, but countries who do not have power or much vested interest in crude oil are already looking into that alternative. Aren't people in this country clamoring to end oil dependence? Armed forces have a huge initiative on the same. Once the revolution starts with a competitive product, government and corporations will not overtly support the activities of dominance then the oil industry will go into survival mode. Just like OPEC came together to unify and charge people more, what is preventing OPEC to come together and destroy an industry with higher costs in short term by slashing prices so that long term it maintains the status quo? That is the reality. When domination enters survival mode, all bets are off. Oil companies have vast financial and political resources... I just can't see them allowing something to grow that threatens their existence. Allowing something not to grow is mutually exclusive to something will grow. Brazil already has something that is competing with oil industry.
  2. Yes, gas was that cheap. In the past. Not likely it's going to get that cheap again in the future. What is not understood is when there is a competition to the livelihood (dominance) of gas manufacturers, will they keep the future price at current level knowing the future will be in trouble? What makes these manufacturers drop the price down in the future to the ones in past? <shortsighted person> Competition. But that isn't likely to happen, as corrupt oil companies (and the politicians they own) actively work to prevent competition. Not to mention instability in the Middle East is always a constant threat to oil prices. </shortsighted person> Are you absolutely sure that no competition will exist because of the corrupt activities? 4. That seems unrealistically cheap. Do you think oil companies will let a competitor in easy? I can't imagine they would let any competitor in...any company that tried to compete would be destroyed rapidly by Big Oil companies.. That is precisely my point. You have to survive and thrive in such a scenario.

  6. That is precisely what came to my mind. No specifics of what size vehicle, what engine, what propulsion. Just throw a number off the congressional rear. Companies will just make a better nano and you can have 150 mpg. There should be some paradigms to adopt such as midsize 5 passenger sedan/coupe, etc. Crude Oil needs competition. Not at current prices but for a price of $1.00/gal. Yes!

  8. Seriously Ford, all that taunting about we are the only American manufacturer without bailout and we don't need a special electric vehicle and now you are bitching?
  9. I think "kicking off" the Motortrend television is the motive behind the canning of ATS coupe, not GM plan.
  10. Which politician has been haunted for all the "fantastic" decisions he/she has made?
  11. Hey Ven, welcome back. It has been a long time. How is life treating you?
  12. Well you can have a two wheel base version of a S class fighter. A big coupe, and if GM wants to spread more money, may be a RWD uni-body SUV. It depends totally on how creative GM wants to be and where it wants to take the Omega.
  13. Happy Birthday man. Where is your Regal?
  14. I do not think structurally there will be too much to add for the diference between the V6 and LS V8. The weight difference between an LS3 engine and 3.6 DI is about 25-30 lbs, not enough to justify strengthening of materials to bolster the engine. As an engineer, I would design for the V8 anyways and GM has designed the Alpha for the same. I wouldn't be so sure of that. A V8 introduces a great deal more stress on a given chassis with its power as much as its weight and that of other components it requires. If GM has taken the concept of modular design to a new high... Yes. And you make a valid point. However, crash stress and power stress are not the same... No, weight was just one factor. Other factors such as torsional rigidity and bending moments caused by a V8 would be indirectly function of weight. As far as harmonics are concerned a V8 is more stable than a V6, so preventing structural resonance for a V8 is an easier task. Another example, a E92 BMW 335i coupe with twin turbo engine weighs 3,572 lbs, an M3 coupe with non carbon fiber roof weighs 3,552 lbs. Granted the twin turbos add about 20 lb each to the weight of the 335is.
  15. Based on what I and Olds talked with the GM person at the time of ATS release was Alpha can fit CTS having similar size of a 5er. If GM wants to make money off Omega then it has to be flexible.

  17. Congrats
  18. None of the Porsches' aspirants want radical change, yet Corvette should be changed radically. Stop making excuses, make it the best car and those paper customers being sought will be there.

  20. Anyway, let's say that this new design actually improves the effectiveness, and you can actually get an average of 5MW per hour out of a turbine. According to Wikipedia, "Primary energy use in the United States was 25,155 TWh". Since we're talking megawatts here, let's convert that over. 2009 electrical usage was 25,155,000,000,000,000 MWh. Correction 1Tera Watt Hour = 1 Mega Mega Watt Hour. 25,155 TWh = 25,155,000,000 MWh
