  1. This thing KILLS the Honda Accord coupe concept. And I agree with everyone, this has to came here as a Saturn
  2. AND!... remember that this is an INCREASE in sales WITHOUT relying on fleets to meet sales goals. In fact, fleet sales were reduced 18%, but total sales were still up 3.4%.
  3. GM sales rise; Ford, Chrysler slip Despite an expected decline in U.S. industry sales, GM reported a 3.4 percent total sales increase, compared with February 2006. The sales gain was due to an 11 percent retail sales increase. Retail and fleet sales by GM dealers in the United States totaled 311,763 vehicles, compared with sales of 301,545 in February 2006. Fleet sales were down 18 percent due to a planned 25 percent reduction in daily rental sales. "Our pickup, SUV and crossover business was terrific across the board. Our customers are telling us that we have the winning formula - the best products, industry-leading fuel economy and the best value," said Mark LaNeve, vice president, GM North American Sales, Service and Marketing. Retail truck sales were up 16 percent compared with February 2006 and total truck sales were up 7 percent. Leading the retail sales gains were full-size pickups, up 36 percent compared with February 2006, with positive showings by Chevrolet Avalanche, up 110 percent and Silverado, up 34 percent. GMC Sierra retail sales volume was up 27 percent compared with last February. Driven by an increase in Chevrolet Aveo retail sales, GM's economy car segment retail volume was up 17 percent compared with February 2006. A 45 percent retail increase in Pontiac G6 and a 65 percent increase in Chevrolet Impala retail sales, compared with the same month a year ago, pushed GM's mid-car segment retail volume up 25 percent. [data sheet] Ford Ford's February U.S. sales declined 13 percent compared with a year ago. The company's February sales totaled 211,150, compared with 244,021 a year ago. Lower sales to daily rental companies (down 16,000 units) accounted for about half of the decline. Sales to individual retail customers were down 8 percent compared with a year ago. Our objective is to deliver more of the products that people want and, in doing so, stabilize retail share," said Mark Fields, Ford’s President of The Americas. “We're encouraged by the results we have achieved over the past several months. Our new products and our initiatives to strengthen our brands are starting to pay off." Ford brand sales were down 15.2 percent, Mercury was down 13.2 percent, Lincoln was up 10.8 percent, Jaguar was down 28.3 percent, Volvo was virtually even at plus 0.7 percent, and Land Rover fell 10 percent. [data sheet] Chrysler Chrysler Group reported sales for February 2007 of 174,506 units; down 8 percent compared to February 2006 with 190,367 units. Chrysler executives say their new product offerings, however, are a sign of things to come. The Dodge Avenger posted sales of 5,205 units. Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited continued to post strong sales in February with 9,240 units, a rise of 63 percent over February 2006 sales of 5,673 units. Sales of the Jeep Compass increased 3 percent over the previous month with 4,071 units compared to 3,965 units in January 2007. The Dodge Caliber finished February with sales of 9,900 units, an increase of 14 percent compared to last month with 8,672 units. Chrysler brand sales fell 16 percent, Jeep fell 5 percent, and Dodge fell 5 percent. [data sheet]
  4. I fully support that. Canada is pretty close to America. 1000 better than GM buying them 1,000,000x better than China
  5. I agree with that. I think Compass damaged Jeep's image, but not Commander. Hell, I think Commander is more hardcore Jeep than Liberty. Why do you think Liberty should stay and Commander should go (which is what will happen). Especially since the next Liberty gets miniCommander/Nitro styling. Commander filled the full size SUV niche for Chrysler for people that wouldnt look at Durango/Aspen (I know I wouldn't, but then again why should I with the GMT900s)
  6. Wow... I don't know whether i should laugh or be very afraid when I see one of these on the road
  7. I officially hate Germany, namely Mercedes. I've always liked BMW over them, but I'm making a vow right now that I will never buy a Mercedes or a Chinese car. EVER
  8. Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera unveiled Italian supercar maker Lamborghini will showcase the new Gallardo Superleggera coupe at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Thanks to increased power (an additional 10 hp) and a 220-pound reduction in weight (154 pounds for the U.S. model), the new range-topping Superleggera is faster and more agile than the regular model. The Superleggera needs only 3.8 seconds to go from 0 to 62 mph — 0.2 seconds less than the basic Gallardo. The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera comes with robotized mechanical e-gear as standard; a sports package including shock absorbers; and special suede-covered steering wheel. The car's engine is the latest version of Lamborghini's well-known 4,961 cc V10. 530 hp is achieved in 8,000 rpm. Lamborghini engineers decreased the Lamborghini Gallardo's already low weight using advanced materials. The engine hood is made of visible carbon fiber and plastic, a type of material that guarantees lightness and also shows off the magnificent V10. The rear diffuser and underbody covering, the rearview mirrors, door panels and the central tunnel's covering are also made of carbon fiber. Further reductions in weight were achieved by replacing certain glass surfaces with clear plastic. For the interior, monocoque carbon fiber sports seats covered in Alcantara are offered. http://www.leftlanenews.com/2007/02/27/lam...ggera-unveiled/
  9. Oh, I'm not posting this because I'm not giving GM credit... The lambda's are great, but since we post every Toyota/Honda recall, I'm just being fair and posting this one (if you don't see it here - you'll see it on the news).
  10. It looks sweet from everywhere except the front. I'm really not feelin the front. The rims are probably show-only just like with the G8. I'm pretty happy to say though that I like our G8 better.
  11. Wow, GM seems to be the only automaker left 'interested' in buying Chrysler. I don't know this so I'm asking you guys: If DCX were to get the same kind of cash from a private equity firm or an automaker, which one would they sell Chrysler to?
  12. Well, you don't live in California. I don't live there either but they are the ones who buy the most imports whereas in the Midwest and Eastern parts of our [great] country, they are more loyal to the country's automakers...more patriotic I guess. I have noticed though that the illegal immigrants around here (Arizona) actually buy domestics...even used - used cars that cost about the same and they still choose domestics over ol' reliable Toyota (although I do believe their reliability image was actually well-deserved a decade ago - now? - all automakers are about on the same page save Chrysler).
  13. GM has recalled its all-new crossovers, the GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook, because of potentially faulty airbag sensors. The recall affects all 13,032 of the vehicles on the road. The problem stems from a faulty sensor that controls the front airbags’ deployment. It will also prevent the vehicle from alerting owners of a malfunction. GM says the problem is a software issue and can be remedied with a service — no parts need to be replaced — at the dealer at no cost to owners. The company discovered the problem during internal testing and no incidents have been reported. Letters went out Thursday to Outlook owners, and letters for Acadia owners will go out Feb. 28. Owners can call GMC at 1-866-966-9463 or Saturn at 1-800-972-8876 for more information. http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2007/02...ook_recall.html At least this will be quickly fixed before the Enclave is rolled out.
  14. This is good news. You know, I've read many reports that Daimler and Chrysler may remain together. Whatever the case, $3 billion invested in America is a good thing, whether its from the Big 3 or from Toyota.
  15. "No big hits on the horizon" sounds right but 'outdated models'? That's not true since they've had like 20 new models last year and for this year. That's a problem.
  16. YES!!! Caddy Sixteen is my all-time favorite concept..i think (unless someone reminds of another one that I REALLY liked)
  17. I guess I misunderstood you a little, but I am saying we SHOULD be worried about our auto industry and not just wait for the 'cycle' to pass by. The cycle as you describe it (pensions, ect) isn't likely to end anytime soon since America is aging, and its pensions and all other UAW liabilities aren't going to go away. Asian countries are not going to play fair and increase the value of their currencies or by any means give up their unfair advantages. So now Chrysler MIGHT get bought by China giving them a quick entrance to our market and in a decade or so, 50% of the American market might be asian (South Korean, Japanese, Chinese)!! (assuming everything is going as its going right now, and no concessions are made -- everyone just waits for thing to 'pass by') Our once dominant industry is gonna be slowly disassembled with all this unfair competition.
  18. Oh yea, its that simple. Just turn a profit and you'll be good. It's the cycle's fault. That's why a STUTTGART company is getting sold off again or possibly pulled apart. Let's just wait and once Chrysler dies the cycle will be over. Then maybe Ford. But who cares? It's not GM yet right? Not until the next 'cycle'!! I so glad our auto industry is still going strong.
  19. Well, I still want something American (even GM) to at least buy a stake in Chrysler.
  20. No, the best chance for Chrysler would be anyone BUT the Chinese AS LONG AS they have the funding to do something with it. Ideally, Chrysler gets bought by an american private equity firm.
  21. I was being sarcastic If I agreed I would've said "Perfect." or "Exactly." and then repeat what he said and explain why it works (if you look at my posts before this, that is what I do when I agree with them.
  22. You missed the beginning of that article: It seems like a loopy idea, combining one flailing carmaker with another that is struggling to slim down. But this scenario has one big advantage—it would be the fastest way for DaimlerChrysler to be rid of Chrysler. If he decides to push the button on a deal, GM Chairman and CEO G. Richard Wagoner Jr. would be betting that for a negligible price he could add Chrysler's $62 billion in yearly revenue, or much of it, while cutting a big chunk of the structural costs. GM envisions selling close to 11.6 million vehicles per year worldwide through the combined company, but with a smaller staff of engineers, accountants, public-relations people, lawyers, and so on. GM accountants and strategists estimate they could save billions a year by merging the companies. GM would need the cooperation of the United Auto Workers—and not just on reducing health-care costs. A deal could require the loss of 10,000 to 15,000 of the combined 125,000 production workers, so GM would need to arrange a buyout of some kind, says Sean P. McAlinden, chief economist at the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Mich. The UAW has to figure that Chrysler jobs are going to be lost in any case, and workers would get the best security guarantees under GM. :AH-HA_wink:
  23. I would be sad and every American should be because a big part of the AMERICAN auto industry (which is bad) would be gone and used by China to important their trashass cars.
