  1. Audi is planning more performance crossovers due to high demand. They have an RS Q8 coming and I don’t see why they would do the same on Q7 and Q5.
  2. Porsche build quality is on point so Tesla better be ready. Will be interesting to see how Tesla does once the Taycan is out an Mercedes EQ S a year later.
  3. The X8 crossover coupe is green lit for production I believe. The Gran turismo models don’t sell at all they can cut those, I would be surprised to see the 8-series go die to high price = high margin but maybe they don’t see a future. No Z4 means no Supra and hopefully they do kill the 1-series and let Mercedes have that market.
  4. The Chinese market could save it, but they could also remove Encore/Trax from the US market if there is a big sales drop. Once the market is so crazy flooded with crossovers, the weak ones will die off. Just like what is happening with sedans. These are the people that want to kill Malibu, Impala and Camaro that are 50 year name plates, I don't think they would think twice about killing off the Encore. YTD the Malibu is GM's #4 seller being Silverado, Equinox and Sierra.
  5. Because the Cadillac red/awd sport sedans sell? The CT5 is $38k, so CT4 is probably going to be about $31k. And that is before discounts which will be available after about a year on the market.
  6. I bet in 5 year pa GM and Ford are cutting the Encore, Trax, Trailblazer, Ecosport, etc to “focus on more profitable models” and Equinox and Escape will be the base models, and post 2025 they might kill them off too if the RAV4 crushes the market the way the Camry did to the sedan market.
  7. Easy fix to the sedan lineup, change Altima name to Maxima and offer awd with the top engine (which it currently isn’t). This puts the Maxima nameplate vs Camry and Accord. Rename the next gen Sentra the Altima to be a Civic/Corolla fighter. Kill the current Maxima. Titan/Armada/QX80 either need serious overhaul, like multi-billion dollar overhaul or killed off.
  8. So Ford and GM’s game plan is to put everything into pickups, SUVs and 1 sports car each, after giving up on minivans and sedans. Meanwhile the Asian car companies are stealing crossover/SUV business off Ford and GM and Toyota has new trucks coming and Hyundai and Kia are doing pickups. You can only retreat for so long until you run out of places to retreat to.
  9. What are first year production numbers though?
  10. The base Tacoma has no power, I bet Toyota could put an Avalon Hybrid powertrain in there and make it just as capable and get over 30 mpg.
  11. So what would a Colorado get with the 2.0T or 2.7T and a mild hybrid system? I bet either of those would top 30 mpg.

    Next car...

I voted the 2016 because it would be cheaper than a 2016 and farther down he depreciation curve. And one Buick Lacrosse is essentially the same as the next.
  13. That is outstanding and I always felt like 30 mpg on a truck was the magic number to hit to stand out, 23/33 mpg is like 4-cylinder Malibu numbers from 10 years ago so we have advanced a long way. This does make the Silverado stand out. I think the Silverado has some issues in the looks department which are costing it sales though.
  14. I wonder if a price drop is coming? Or if they will just make you pay more for the V6 in the name of CAFE. And not that I blame them, that is sort of what everyone does.
  15. Daimler tried that with the original Pacifica that was a 6 seat crossover (sort of crossover) and the full size Aspen. And both got killed off after 1 generation. The problem is I don’t think many people want a Chrysler SUV when they can buy a more reliable Honda or Toyota product or buy a Hyundai/Kia with a better warranty, or a rwd based Explorer or the other 10 SUVs in that segment. Chrysler does nothing well to steal buyers.
  16. Couldn’t they use the Georgio platform for crossovers? I don’t think it is as simple as give Chrysler crossovers however. Most of Jeep’s and Alfa’s crossovers are down this year, the market is shrinking and everyone else has 6-7 crossovers per brand. I don’t think a Pacifica based crossover would make any dent in the market, although it would be a better idea than trying to sell the Voyager and current Journey and 300. Cadillac can’t even take on Mercedes/Lexus, how is Buick supposed to? Buick will probably become an SUV only brand in the USA, leaving Cadillac as the only sedan options above the Malibu at GM when the Impala dies. The CT4 will probably start at $30k so you don’t really need a Buick sedan unless it is so cheap to rebadge a Malibu into a Lacrosse then why not.
  17. From he collector perspective, which is where these hyper cars end up, it is about what was special for their time. The F40 is a $2 million car now. The McLaren F1 is like a $10 million car. Each era has a fan base and each era has an important car. 20-30 years from now when people look back at AMG One they will remember how crazy Mercedes was to put an F1 power unit in a road car and how it was the most amazing and sought after car of the time. Like we do today with an F40 or a 300SL or Ferrari 275 etc
  18. True, and the 300 is supposed to die so Chrysler will be a brand with 2 minivans? And no other product? Doesn’t seem like a good business model.
  19. They aren’t going to cancel it, and no one will have a better hyper car either. Won’t be until the 2030s when someone builds a better hyper car and it will probably be Mercedes that does it. That is why they are the best, they keep pushing. And “the best or nothing” wants the best Nürburgring lap time even though they say it isn’t about lap times, I am sure they want that record and they’ll beat the Aventador SVJ by a full minute and no one is touching that.
  20. The AMG One was never going to turn profit anyway, it is the right move to make it, they are building a brand image and sometimes that costs money. Better to do that than be in Cadillac’s position or dead like Mercury or Pontiac.
  21. I think they should raise the price of the AMG One to $3.5 million and tell the people on the waiting list if they don’t like it too bad, they’ll find someone else. That would make them an extra $275 million.
  22. All these guys are cutting now.
  23. That can be said about almost any big corporation. I don’t think they should pay of 10,000, even though they have 300,000 employees it is still a big number. Technology automated some jobs away and the auto market is about to shrink, so I know they are hedging their bet. But sadly stock holders determine what a lot of these companies do.
  24. Wouldn’t surprise me if the next gen Durango becomes a Chrysler Aspen. I have no idea what they are doing but to make the Caravan until May 2020 when production of this generation started in 2007 is pretty nuts. I don’t get why you creat a new model to advertise when it is the same as the Pacifica for $4k less. What Chrysler should have done is decontented the Pacifica and stripped it down and then charged $20k more for it like Porsche does. A 2 seat Pacifica Superlegerra with no carpeting or stereo would be money.
  25. They are flush with cash, they have over €21 billion in cash and short term investments, €121 billion in current assets and made €7.25 billion last year over €10 billion the year before. They’ll be fine.
