  1. Not that we'll ever get to see it, but I do wonder what GM's internal cost/benefit analysis would show for this. For the other killed brands as well. Another aspect that hasn't been touched upon is the loyalty of buyers of "the good stuff" at Pontiac. That's the sort of thing that has to be earned, and they tossed it out with the junk.
  2. Bright sunshine on the snow this morning. Going to step outside and see hold cold it is.
  3. And very different buyers. Key point.
  4. I told you guys that the colonnades were rising in value... A very nice example at an accurate price.
  5. Some pics with the intake off, and the Jag serving as a parts bench:
  6. A pair of pics:
  7. Not looking good, it's snowing steadily here now which was not predicted until late this afternoon... Time to make some fuel runs and hook up the plow, I guess.
  8. They are calling for 2-4 inches here. This comes way too early, and guarantees that I'll have to drive the wagon through the salt mess. I may even have to put the plow on the ROPOS, all of which delays getting the Tahoe done. GRRRRR!
  9. I'm going to have to proceed on faith and do the compression test after the fact (if at all). Should have done it early on, before the trouble started.
  10. That site is a spyware-ridden hell, I thought my computer was going to burn down.
  11. Thanks JB, will do. I have a line on some low-mileage heads that might make it all worthwhile. Stay tuned, I will post more pics as I go.
  12. You speak truth, Z.
  13. When the '91 and up full-size SUVs rolled out. A friend of mine had an '88 GMC Suburban with a good ol' Detriot Diesel under the hood. The 6.5 turbodiesel was available in the '92-99 generation for some amount of time and on the Tahoe also according to the Book of Knowledge. It was (at least in the 2-doors) and they are very, very, rare. As for why GM didn't make the Duramax available in the Suburban, the story I got back then was that they didn't have the production capacity to even meet demand in the pickups - so no diesel for the Suburban. Of course that doesn't excuse the fact that they still haven't managed to do it.
  14. There is a company out there that does the Duramax/Suburban swap. I don't remember the name, or the details, but you ought to try doing a search for them. Maybe a swap kit exists? Might be better than a chassis swap.
  15. Intake is off, and it isn't too pretty under there. But, the evidence is inconclusive as far as the head gaskets go. The debate now is do I clean it all up and slap it back together, or do I dive in deeper and do the head gaskets? I'm sleeping on this one.
  16. I hope so too - but I haven't had any time to even do the test drive, let alone get started on selling it. Too busy with the Tahoe.
  17. Pics so far: These show the progress, but not all of the work removing stuff and cleaning parts! Now to feed the dogs and myself, and then get that intake off.
  18. Glad to hear it's coming along.
  19. New timing chain and gears are in, cover is back on with new gaskets, and the balancer is re-installed. Tomorrow I'll re-install the lower pulley and the water pump, and remove the intake manifold. The new timing chain is very tight, showing me just how worn the old timing set was. Hopefully, that cures the missing and popping through the intake and exhaust - now to solve the coolant issue. I'll post some pics tomorrow.
  20. I guess we'll have to show him exactly where he can stick that.
  21. Well, the timing chain is defintely full of slack - should have that replaced tonight. But the big question is the intake gasket/head gasket thing. I know that the intake gaskets are bad, what I don't know yet is if they are responsible for my coolant leak. If not, I'll be diving much deeper than I wanted to into this engine. I should know tonight or tomorrow.
  22. I'll be getting a look at the timing chain in about an hour - time to start getting some answers.
  23. That's true - if you can stand to live with a Citation long enough to get your money's worth out of it.
  24. This is a $2,000 car, one that should be driven until it is used up and then recycled.
