  1. A market necessity, I suppose...
  2. Ugh. A big commitment to puny engines = a big commitment to puny cars. No thanks.
  3. Nope. It always has fuel.
  4. Because the market shows Americans overwhelmingly prefer vanilla (FWD 4cyl automatic sedans in white or silver). Which only holds true until they actually put something interesting on dealer lots (witness Camaro).
  5. Yeah, the good stuff never shows up.
  6. Installed the new battery today, and the car fired right up and idled smoothly. There was none of the hesitation when giving it gas that it had before. Thinking that this may have solved the problem, I let it sit and run for a long while. It wasn't to be. The car stalled and would not restart. After a long cool-down, it fired right up again and ran well. I put it back in the garage and shut her down - no restart. Whatever is wrong is heat related. The leading suspect is the coil which seems to be a tough find.
  7. Sure hope they change that ugly snout.
  8. Glad to see you just the same.
  9. In that case, I'm in trouble. It always makes me grumpy to take a less preferred course.
  10. Oh, I'm sure I'll manage it - but what a drag of a job. That, and all of the miles on the engine, has me not so thrilled at the prospect of so much work. I'd much rather be swapping-in a crate engine.
  11. Hate those stickers - I've peeled the "4x4" sticker off of every GM truck I've had the moment I got it home. Cheap and cheesy, the trucks look better without them.
  12. Welcome back, OC. Glad things are going ok for you.
  13. Despite my misgivings, I'll be taking a run at repairing the existing engine rather than replacing it. It's my only viable option at the moment. Not looking forward to this one.
  14. Hey James, glad to see you here! I wouldn't snub my nose at that one either (even if it is a purple automatic).
  15. The flapping jowls could be fatal... I'll update when I decide what to do.
  16. Wouldn't be very hard to do, but the key to its legality is the location of the VIN. Not a problem if it is on the dash below the windsheild - the two could be joined seamlessly at the factory weld points. I seem to recall that that is where it is. An "A" pillar VIN would be a tad more difficult.
  17. 4-door sedan according to the VIN, with a history of a severe rear-end collision. So, the front clip/interior/VIN is all that's left of the sedan.
  18. I also tried looking for that '87 Jimmy with the 4-speed manual in Bristol, PA, but the listing couldn't be found. I spoke with that guy, and I'd still consider it. But he painted the body black with a rattle can because he didn't like the original "$h! brown" color.
  19. I'm sure someone shipped over a Ute body and grafted it to a wrecked G8. But I'd love to have it anyway.
