  1. I looked at a Volt side-by-side with a Cruze at the dealership yesterday and I have to agree with this. The detailing on the Volt is very good.
  2. Rumor on camaro5 say starting at 47k.
  3. Price? Lotsa stuff standard that I wouldn't want...
  4. It's just a red "X" for me.
  5. The thing's cool, but what do you do with it?
  6. I have now seen 4 Volts, and a pair of 45th ann. Camaros (1 coupe, 1 Vert). Also: A model T out for a cruise An immaculate Jaguar XK120/140 coupe, sinister in black. My first sighting of a Fiat 500 actually being driven. An entirely cherry mid 70's Mercury Grand Marquis in a minty green.
  7. I always liked these, although the '73 is a much better looking car than the '75. Still, it's in pretty darn good condition, and though not a screaming bargain, the price is fair. I say cheers.
  8. Well, I've started. Not too much to report yet, except that there was a distressingly low amount of coolant in the system. And what was there was nasty, which should not be the case. Just a few months back, I replaced the coolant line to the manifold, the thermostat, and the water pump. The coolant was new at that time. The radiator was replaced about a year ago, so any issue are within the engine itself. Here's hoping that it is the intake gaskets rather than the head gaskets.
  9. Excellent info, Balthy! I knew that box was an old one. And yes, the new coil seems to have solved the problem. I have done several hot re-starts without trouble. Still need to do a test drive to be sure, but all seems well now.
  10. I still don't have the warm fuzzies about putting this much work into the old engine - but I'll guess I'll tear into it tomorrow.
  11. OK, here are the pics of the old coil, the new coil, and underhood/underdash shots of the Dodge. Old coil in all its weirdness: The hole in the firewall where the coil mounts: Here you can see the metal conduit that runs to the coil from the ignition switch. You can also see the odd metal disc at the end which was held to the bottom of the coil by metal tabs on the body of the coil itself: Seems that the "new" bracket was an NORS piece, check out the graphics and branding on the box: The new coil with the bracket and old rubber gasket: New coil installed with new wire run from the end of the conduit and snaked past the coil:
  12. X-car = automatic jeer. These were what started the death slide into all FWD all the time. Please crush it.
  13. A certain amount of cussing is always required when doing automotive repairs - otherwise it won't work.
  14. Add me to the list of those not loving the paint - but the new feature title works. Why didn't we all think of that before?
  15. Sorry about the pics, guys. Got wrapped up in something else, but I'll get them posted soon.
  16. It's the heads - they are designed to make torque.
  17. "Daily Driving Through Strange Times" - With this title you confirm again something I've noticed about your posts lately. Namely, you have some notable writing skill. And this new post also confirms something else I've noted - your thinking has grown to be far more concise than once was the case. I think your assesment about getting back into, and through, school is spot-on. Good luck with all of it, YJ.
  18. I think you have that backwards - we all know how inept CAFE is as a policy.
  19. There are a whole host of reasons that these standards should be blocked.
  20. I have to agree with both of you, and add that this bit of news is a damned shame.
  21. Huge bummer! The worst part is that you missed the event!
  22. I don't mind the cold to a point, but the barn is huge and very hard to get any heat into from my 2 kerosene heaters and 2 electric space heaters. Should be fine as long as I get done over the next few weeks. Picked up the parts this afternoon - now for the fun part.
  23. I believe I have the problem solved! I took some pics of the whole coil thing that I'll post tomorrow. Meanwhile, on to the Tahoe and the wagon.
  24. Yeah, and before it gets too cold out in the barn...
  25. Yeah, one of the big benefits of the EFI trucks is that much of the leak-prone tubing and hoses of the late carb engines went away. That, and easier starts, better mileage, and more power. With that said, the 3/4 ton and up trucks didn't have quite so much emissions junk on them. In fact, even in 1986 factory dual exhaust with no cats could still be had on trucks with 8600GVW or higher.
