  1. Unfortunately, the carbs just prior to the advent of EFI are a bit of a disaster. The aftermarket can fix most of that for you, but EFI is bulletproof by comparison.
  2. I'm watching these all the time (for my own nefarious purposes), and I think they would be a great place for you to start. I agree completely on the value, and your timing is just about right. Prices will only go up from where they are now. That, and they are just great trucks. EDIT: I would say, however, that you should try to hold out for an '87 for the benefits of an EFI engine.
  3. I don't feel guilty about any music that gives me pleasure. That said, I like really upbeat progressive rock while driving - stuff that really peaks out. This song is one great example: You guys will have to tell me how the clip sounds - but even if the quality isn't good, you should get the idea of the energy in this song. And why I like driving with it as my soundtrack.
  4. Well, the exhaust that came with the wagon is finally starting to go. One of the mufflers is bad and it will take the tailpipe with it. Everything else is still solid, so I'm debating about what to do. Meineke want $250 (estimate) for a cheapo muffler and custom-bent tailpipe. Eventually, I want to replace the old headers and duals that came with the car with ceramic headers and a full stainless exhaust. I wonder if Ocn's buddies in Lancaster would do just a pair of mufflers and tailpipes in stainless for me - with the rest to follow later.
  5. Just got the call, the new universal coil and mounting ring have arrived. Going to check them out tonight.
  6. Ordered the parts to do everything today. Parts were cheap, but the labor will be long. One Tahoe marathon coming up.
  7. That could be a good thing...
  8. Not for this show by itself, but HCCP has a site. I can get that for you. This show is always in mid October. Lotsa trucks there - you would love it.
  9. Car angst: the gift that keeps on giving.
  10. I think that maybe that's part of the problem, it's as if they are trying too hard to use the "family styling" even when it doesn't work so well. And, it isn't the styling elements themselves, but the execution. The sizes of each aspect often seem way out of sync with each other. The noses of the cars just don't seem to turn out so well lately.
  11. You feel you have committed a crime? I'm certainly being made to feel that way.
  12. Yes, but the Spark seems to be vying for ugliest in class.
  13. I find myself wondering when expressing yourself became a crime.
  14. All the best, hope it works out the way you want.
  15. I typed out a full response - but it somehow vaporized. The short version is this: So much to love, so much to hate. No "laudable" for the silly stuff this guy did to a great project car.
  16. ...when Chevy will change its current brand "face". The front styling is killing the look of the cars. They need a new theme.
  17. No way..the long hood is part of its character ..not a fwd econobox I have to agree with Cubitar on this, a fat, stumpy, nose looks like crap on anything - on a BMW it would be ruinous.
  18. Excellent as usual. From Stanley Steamers to full-size Pontiacs, from a King Midget to a hemi-powered Daimler roadster, from T-buckets to gleaming pre-war Packards - everything under the sun. Any of you even remotely within striking distance should see this show next year. Just a few of the cars I saw: '58 Chevy Brookwood wagon '53 Jaguar XK120 droptop (shown by its original owner who is 102 years old) Matching Camaro Indy pace cars (1969&2011) owned by the same guy '61 Impala bubbletop that is one of the finest customs I have ever seen A pair of boattail Rivieras ('72 & '73) '63 Pontiac Grand Prix (unrestored survivor) '36 Packard 4-door convertible in stunning chrome and black A radical custom '59 T-bird with a chopped top in the brightest yellow metallic paint possible Even the parking lot was full of interesting stuff.
  19. Thanks Ocn, I'm sure I will. You should catch this one - it's minutes from where I am, so not too far of a drive for you.
  20. I guess I'll wander down to this today - it's always a very good show. The old Dodge should have been there, but I'm waiting on parts - kind of a bummer. If anyone is in the area of the Delaware County Community College, I recommend stopping to see the show and flea market.
  21. I'll second that. HB, YJ!
  22. Had to pass on that one. Would have made a good project - but I have enough of those already. Interesting history though, the owner was the principal at a local Caddy dealer and kept this when they were bought out. It began life as their (GM required) roadside assistance vehicle and sports a standup Caddy hood ornament. It spent most of those years being stored inside, but the last few years of sitting have done a job on the underside (fuel lines, etc.). Could be a nice vehicle, but not without some serious attention.
  23. He e-mailed me the right number, so I finally got to talk to him this morning. Going to try to go see it this evening.
