  1. No chance of that.
  2. I thought so.
  3. Thanks guys, I guess I should own one of those.
  4. Smart is the failure I always knew it would be.
  5. If I get to plan C, I'll be sure to post.
  6. I don't have the equiptment to do a pressure test, but it might be a good idea to get that done. It heated up just now, but I'm not sure it will repeat (I re-installed the core again). The seats are both in now and man, what a difference! The interior is starting to look really good now. The console doesn't fit - who'd have guessed that the trucks have a different floor than a Tahoe? Mine is in just as good of a condition, so I just cleaned and re-installed it. Guess I'll CL the other one.
  7. I can feel the temperature dropping, even here inside the house. So, I think I'll go install the other new seat and console before it gets too chilly. With the new interior parts, dash controls, and stereo, this thing is really starting to get pretty nice. That doesn't mean that I don't still have a long list of things to do to get it "right". It sure does help to make it worth it, however.
  8. Wouldn't angling up to the tailgate make the Av work too? I would think that some tools would fit even with the midgate down as well.
  9. 1500 series Suburban or Avalanche?
  10. Push is finally coming to shove on this. The owner now has title in hand, and I have to decide between this and the donor truck for my Mothertruck project. The Vette owner has to decide to accept my offer, or not. The owner of the donor truck doesn't strike me as a patient man - so I will have to jump on that one within a few days if I want it. On the other hand, during the whole missing title thing, the Vette's owner found an interested party that (sight unseen) expressed a desire to buy the car for more than I have offered. I don't see that as worth anything until he sees the car. But time is running out no matter how this goes. And... I of course have a "plan B", or is it "C'?
  11. This small leak may not even exist when the engine is hot due to expansion of the metals. When the engine cools, it is possible that a minute gap opens. If so, since it is at a high point (manifold), any air in the system could settle there and not allow for a coolant leak. I don't know, maybe I'm just clutching at straws here. Never had so much trouble with bleeding a cooling system before. At any rate, no coolant is leaking anywhere, and the core seems to be heating up as it should now. I still don't want to put it back in the "up" position yet, as I want to be reasonably sure the problem is solved. On another note, I installed the new driver's seat - and WOW! The brackets it sits on are pickup-spec and sit much higher - so much nicer than the old seat. I may never re-install the lower, 8-way adjustable, Tahoe version. I now have "command seating" and I like it!
  12. Would have been my vote for much the same reasons. But, I based my vote on the rear-view mirror test. What would I think of seeing any of these coming up fast behind me? The only reason the Reventon beats the COE in this respect is that anything I'd drive would easily leave that intimidating, gap-toothed, sinister COE in the dust. Not so with the Reventon.
  13. It was. Today, it is a battered hulk by comparison - but still working hard and earning money. It's on its third owner since me! Has to have 250k on it by now, at least. Even with a bad exhaust, the sound of that old big block was instantly familiar. And I don't mean that in a generic way, it was the sound of that specific engine that I remembered.
  14. Nope. All of them are tight and it no longer makes a cloud of vapor when running. However, I am wondering if a small leak is allowing air into the system when the engine cools. I am going to cycle it a few more miles to see what happens.
  15. Two days ago I spotted an old Chevy dump truck in the distance. As I got closer to it, I realized it was the truck I built in the early nineties! It's a '78 LWB C-30 with a 454 that I re-bodied and painted to match my '90 Silverado. Amazingly, that old 454 (original) is still going strong, although the rest of the truck is quite battered at this point. It turned onto my road behind me and I stopped to talk with the owner who loves the old beast. It was loaded with woodchips and making a delivery in my neighborhood. We chatted about the truck and both of us got to grinning and laughing at the unlikely encounter. Left me in a much better mood, and with a big smile. This is what it looked like when I had it:
  16. Saw an Opel GT the other day. Very clean and painted in an orangey-red, the owner was driving it like he stole it. It seemed pretty quick, but wandered all over the road in a twitchy way.
  17. CD player works like a charm. I'm thinking about installing the new seats today ( I'll deal with the 8-way thing later}. Heater core is still not getting hot like it should - at least not as quickly as it should (even in the "down" position). Once the seats go in, Arkus is banned from the Tahoe. Maybe I can find one of those pet barriers people used to use in wagons.
  18. Usually, what I post in this forum is something of interest that I have no intention of pursuing at the time. That said, this car is definitely one I could fall in love with.
  19. Good eye! It is an '83.
  20. Unfortunately, I don't have my own permission.
  21. With all of the GTO clones out there, I wonder how many Lemans are left. I like the Lemans for its own sake, and a ragtop 4spd. car in that color would be all I'd need - you can keep the freakin clone!
  22. ...just the way it is. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/2023035633.html
  23. The obvious answer is: yes. Of course you can. Guys did it for years. The used-wagon-as-work-truck thing used to be commonplace. Measure all the stuff you need to carry, measure the wagon, get answer. 'sides, I know obsession when I see it!
  24. I'd say that you sized it up nicely.
