  1. Odd. What's different about the towing package that makes this necessary?
  2. Well, I still haven't owned a Vette... The GTO was such a perfect fit that I'll probably have another.
  3. ...and I may have to claim one. I can only go so long without a manual.
  4. I can understand that, though the major difference between 3rd and 4th gen performance is drivetrain - and that's easily remedied. The third gen handles amazingly well, so much so that LS1 conversions are becoming quite popular.
  5. Never been a Wrangler fan, only considered one when hunting for a plow vehicle. Just don't like them all that much.
  6. But nothing! That's one of the best things about these cars, they are still an affordable toy that can deliver real performance.
  7. Oh I'm planning on keeping the Barn door for a while, but you know me - so many cars, so little time. Wrangler is out. ROPOS is temporary (I am still short a towing machine). Projects will come and go.
  8. The Sy/Ty twins have suffered pretty badly in this way - so few have been preserved well. And that's just sad.
  9. Yes they do. That is very likely what will happen to it.
  10. One of the reasons that I hate transverse-mounted engines.
  11. Just had to dredge this thread up one more time to say how hot this thing is!
  12. Exactly.
  13. Here's a short list for me: -'59 El Camino - Studebaker Golden Hawk - A Nomad (preferably a '55) - '55-'59 GM Sedan delivery - Maybe an Austin-Healey - Some Ford and GM pickups strike my fancy That's about it. EDIT: I have a soft spot for the '55 Vette.
  14. Agreed completely. As for when to do the prying, I suspect that the optimal time would be very soon.
  15. Funny, I thought your list would be longer. There are only a handful from the decade I'd really like to have.
  16. ...own, or have owned, a car from the 50s? I've had exactly one, a '57 Chevy.
  17. Most G8 GXPs are likely to be preserved, the GTs won't fare as well. Many GTOs are already ruined by their owners.
  18. A 41k original Toyota $h!box in pristine condition can only muster 2k after 41 bids. Once a $h!box, always a $h!box. ANY RWD GM or Ford from the same year in that condition would be big bucks by comparison. That's how you define collectible and classic.
  19. Go do a search on an '85 IROC, and then talk to me.
  20. Follow the prices and it becomes obvious, the G-bodies,F-bodies,and Fox bodies are all gaining value.
  21. Perfect hot rod fodder - and people will buy it for that. C'mon Satty, face the reality, people love these cars even if you don't.
  22. ...1LEs, any vert, WS6s, Formulas, Firehawks, RS Camaros... Like the 5.0 Mustangs, these cars are much loved.
  23. Only you would think that.
  24. Funny. I'm more likely to become a pedestrian than to buy an Aztek. It just sucks a bit to go from an amazing array of stuff I like down to almost nothing.
  25. ... with the full-size Blazer and 2-door Tahoe have gotten me wondering. I wonder how long I can tap the used market for the great stuff GM no longer builds - the stuff I actually like. Almost all of those cars are getting difficult to find in pristine, low-mile, condition. The 2-door SUVs are a great example as they never built enough of them for the demand, consequently they have been in short supply from the outset. This has kept prices quite high even for very high-mileage examples. Seems to me, the same will be true for the GTO and other interesting GM cars going forward. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy rehabing the stuff I find, but it would be nice to find something in mint condition now and then. It just seems like all the good stuff gets used-up, rather than preserved. As for new stuff, I can only wait and see what shows up. Maybe something I would want will show up eventually.
