  1. OK, you asked for it. Back in my misguided youth, I made the mistake (or it was made for me) of attending a Tech School for a year. Duh, I took auto shop. Anyway, they had what were known as "shop cars" for us to practice on. The were donated to the school (for a tax deduction, I guess). One of them was a '65 Impala SS 327 in white, with a black top, and a pristine blue interior. Long story short, that car was assembled/disassembled by a bunch of clueless teenagers more times than you could count. By the time I left in disgust, it was in pretty sorry condition. I assume it met the same fate as other worn-out "shop cars", flipped on its roof in the back corner of the parking lot until it got hauled away. A '72 Chevelle, '70ish Chrysler, and a '63 Impala met the same fate. I saw it happen to the '63 and the Chrysler. Such a waste.
  2. I could tell a sad story about another '65 Impala SS vert...
  3. The Camaro? Maybe, they are bringing stupid money these days. But, a '68 six-banger (even with low miles) is only so desireable. If it is pristine, then yes. I'd be more interested in the Impalas though.
  4. Killer find!
  5. Looks like a '65 to me, I remember my dad repairing and painting the convertible version for a guy when I was a kid. It was that oh-so-common pale yellow...
  6. Vert or hardtop?
  7. Who's barn? I want to see!
  8. I also remember that they had a Hemi Daytona, and an Isetta among others back then. EDIT: I did get to see the Tucker as well.
  9. This one was just one of those cars that is so "right", if you know what I mean. Best of the best. It was in shadow grey (silver really) with a black interior, Corvette rallies, and every detail in perfect shape. It was on display for a while at the Gast "museum" in Lanacaster county. I loved its sleeper nature. They also had a 'loaded '59 El Camino that sat outside by the entrance, complete with a 348 tri-power. It was worth the drive.
  10. I'm just glad to know we are on the same page on this. What do you think of the first gens? I think they are ok, but I actually prefer the Chevelles of the era. I did know of a '71 454SS MC that was near-perfect though...sweet car.
  11. Watch it there, Sport!
  12. Wow! Is it right that I'm proud of myself?
  13. Yeah, and I still have to be a last-minute decision.

    Mom's Car

I've posted a few ... Maybe I'll find some others.
  15. I'm using IE (the latest one, I think) just because I'm used to it. I have Firefox, but haven't tried it with the new board. The part I don't get is that (for me) the old board was much faster. Does that make sense?
  16. Yes indeed! Though it will be at least 2011 before I'd be ready for mine...
  17. Meh, I know nothing about computers and the tech behind them. Can't think of a less interesting topic. It's just a means to an end for me.
  18. That Mustang vert, in those exact colors, was ubiquitous back then - I must have seen literally hundreds just like it.
  19. Umm... I'll take your word for it. Yes, my eyes just glazed-over. This machine has some issues, but I have a newer replacement "in stock". As for my C&G slowness, it seems confined to this site. Does that make C&G more advanced?
  20. Yes, a year like no other - may it never happen again! Good riddance 2009!
  21. Another fine list defining an awful year - well done! Happy New Year to all!
  22. Have to part company with you on the MCs, Balthazar. I find the 78-80 cars to be just awful - a parody of the 73-77s. The first gen cars are ok, but the second was when the MC hit its stride IMO. They made me like "personal luxury" coupes for the first time. Only the '83 and up SS cars eclipsed those big cruisers in my heart, and mostly because they were more completely my sort of car. For a very long time, the colonnade cars didn't mean all that much to me but I have rediscovered their virtues over time. Exceedingly comfortable cars, they are deceptively good handlers. And when given a healthy dose of horsepower, they become decent performers. Yes, their styling was compromised by the absurd gov't-mandated bumpers, and their performance cramped by gov't-mandated emissions and efficiency standards - but the core foundation was more solid than ever. In some ways, they are much more advanced than their predecessors that so many (including me) love above all other cars.
