  1. Well I've shown some love for a few Mopars in this thread, but I part company with you guys when it comes to the Venom. It looks like a cartoon animation to me, and I wouldn't be caught dead in something like that - yuck. But a Hemi-C would look great in my garage. When I saw this concept in person, I was certain that it was headed for production - in fact it looked to be in production trim even as a show car. And the Firepower is sweet, both inside and out. I'd rather have it than a Viper.
  2. I've had my heart set on using a GMPP Ram Jet 350, but lately I've noticed that low-mile Vortec 8100 truck engines are pretty cheap for the HP and TQ they make.
  3. The admins on that site have locked the thread. Seems alot of the Toyo-faithful are a bit PO'd. I scanned their forum and they have some huge complaints about their trucks. I'd say the Tundra is already a "damaged product".
  4. ...and Toyota sells a bed extender for long loads.
  5. Age isn't a factor. I've never been a "morning person", high-energy comedy and rapid-fire talk is the last thing I want to hear while I have coffee and ease my way into wakefulness.
  6. This old fossil needs an awareness transplant.
  7. No guilt required - make 'em pay!
  8. They can be pretty funny, but I want music or news in the morning, not comedy. So I listen to WXPN or KYW.
  9. The thin sheetmetal is only part of the story, the design of the gate itself is badly flawed as is the method of construction. I was pretty vocal about the Silverado's cable problem as it was a real safety issue, but GM responded quickly with a lasting fix. The Tundra's far more serious tailgate issue would have me looking for a lawyer were I fool enough to buy one.
  10. Agreed. But GM has obviously stepped up lately while Toyota has faltered.
  11. Weight reduction is the reason, Dodgefan. The trouble is that the Toyota engineers failed to remember that they were supposed to be designing a truck. They obviously have chosen some very poor places to do weight reduction and penny-pinching.
  12. There was a TSB on the cables for Early GMT800s. A supplier used standard steel cables instead of the stainless GM specified, as these cables are wrapped in a plastic sleeve, owners didn't know that the cables had corroded and decayed. The ones on my 02 Silverado snapped simultaneously as I was loading heavy supplies into the truck. It was a dangerous problem, but GM replaced the cables under warranty and the problem was solved. I still believe that braided cables are a bad idea vs. the bracket style supports GM used for years (those simply never fail), even though a small weight savings comes with using the cables. With all of that said, I have never had an issue with tailgate structure on a GM truck. That sort of failure is much more significant and inexcusable on any pickup. I work my 05 Silverado hard, and the gate takes a beating with all sorts of heavy equiptment and materials loaded in and out of the truck on a regular basis. The gate has developed a slight bend in the middle over time ( I would call this normal wear on a work truck) but it is still strong and stable and I have no fears of it failing. As I've said before, the current Tundra is strike three for Toyota in the full-size truck market. A substandard product plagued with poor design and a host of problems.
  13. Some of this is dated information.
  14. I told you so. :AH-HA_wink: Funny how the "Naysayers Club" has been so quiet lately. This battle will continue for quite some time.
  15. Sounds like my kind of road trip. :AH-HA_wink:
  16. Dakota and Durango used to have very appealing styling, now they are simply ugly - no way around it.
  17. It's an internal GM system the dealers can access.
  18. Hmm. Seems to me the resident Chrysler fans are bit thin-skinned these days. - Obviously the pentastar is in deep doo-doo these days, blame who you wish, the truth of that is undeniable. - The sweeping generalization that C&G as a group hates Chrysler is as absurd as it is incorrect. - While under the yoke of incompetent German management a huge number of opportunities to bring interesting product to market was stifled and it shows. - Many of the recent actions of Chrysler management reek of desperation and recent products reek of mediocrity at best. With all of that said, I'd love to see the vitality and creativity of the pre-DCX Chrysler return. Mopar was easily the most creative and vital domestic in terms of creativity during the '90s. I hope that with the German shackles removed they can regain some of that vitality. The status-quo is unsupportable and a great many of the products discussed in this thread deserve the axe. Here's an example of what I'd like to see Cerberus do: redesign the LX cars to show a family resemblence to the upcoming Challenger. Specifically, I'd like to see the next Charger/Magnum adopt the '99 Charger concept's styling which would look great beside the new Challenger.
  19. I love the '99 Charger concept even more than I hate the production car. I've seen it in person and , even with 4-doors, it was near perfection. It was also powered by natural gas - a true clean-air musclecar. What's not to love? This one should have been the production car. Another fine concept was the Chrysler Hemi-C convertible. It was production-ready and gorgeous, but DCX let it die on the vine. I'm glad the Germans are gone now, maybe Chrysler can begin to matter again.
  20. Very ,very, cool. Now I'd like to see the Camaro do the same thing at an SCCA event.
  21. Excellent stuff, hyper! Thanks for posting it.
  22. Good idea! I may use my last pic of the "Fleet" before the bloodletting began.
  23. I'm not sure what I'll submit for this one, maybe a project pic?
  24. Very cool that you ran the car,Staceface. :AH-HA_wink: The auto trans. will disqualify it for him though.
