  1. I'm weary of the pendulum swings - I want a third alternative.
  2. Ugh. Our society is so spineless and governed by the smallest fears. I want to flip the people that force all of this on us the bird. Nothing ticks me off more than some jackass trying to protect me from myself.
  3. Par for the course, considering the public's anal fixation with "safety". I find it disgusting. Get over it people, life causes death.
  4. I am privileged to be a part of the C&G team, and extend a well-earned thank you to Fly for his seemingly limitless energy in expanding the impact and content of our site.
  5. I for one would like to know the exact issues and costs involved which make a hardtop impossible in an affordable car. We are debating the issue without any meaningful facts - which is largely pointless. Key among the misssing info. is what the determining factor was in the decision to include a B pillar in the Camaro and Challenger. Was it cost? Weight? Safety rating concerns? I do believe that GM was compelled in some way to not build a hardtop. I'd like to understand the exact nature of that need. Why? Because I believe as many others do, that a true hardtop is a major styling and experiential advantage for any coupe. And I've had an idea in my mind about how it might be possible affordably. Without a real understanding of the issues involved (numbers), I can't know if my train of thought is valid. The general answers given in this thread simply aren't enough.
  6. Don't forget the structure fractures on the FJ.
  7. 'Lanche. Best of both worlds.
  8. Sad. This is far more pervasive than just an issue of PC overdose at universities. It is symptomatic of the least-common-denominator mentality of our entire society. Don't dare stand out in any way - you will be beaten down. It used to be that High Schools were the citizen factories while universities were the havens of free thought. It is the death of freedom, and we sheep are accepting it without a fight. Ideology doesn't matter, the practice of homoginizing thought in institutions of learning is deeply offensive and dangerous regardless of the slant.
  9. I think that this car will stay as an automatic, I'm not really up for converting it to a stick. I have a ton of work ahead of me and a conversion like that would complicate the project more than I want to. You're right though, timing will be everything. If I find a deal on an acceptable engine/trans combo when I have the money ready, who knows what I'll end-up getting. The fallback is the original plan of using a Ram Jet 350 from GMPP.
  10. That's the one part of the plan that will not change - I will have a fuel injected engine in this car.
  11. My first thought when I saw the Venom was this:
  12. Yes, I like the silver with the red interior.
  13. I suppose an LT1 might be an easier conversion. I'm going to give this some more thought.
  14. Thanks Cort. Stay tuned this week as I think some garage time will be happening.
  15. It would fit in the engine bay with room to spare, my wallet is another matter entirely.
  16. Very cool, track-only, concept that re-affirms the sportscar heritage of both the Solstice and GM in general. That's why. This is SEMA, and that's what it's all about. Makes me miss the vintage races I used to go to.
  17. Thanks! I hope that it will.
  18. I'd love that, but it's way too pricey.
  19. It is our own Camino designed as part of the C&G Underground's Chevelle Project.
  20. A housefull and a barnfull.
  21. The centers will be black and the rims will be polished.
  22. Here's an update. I have installed : -new rotors -new races and bearings -new calipers -new pads -new gas shocks -new sway bar end links and bushings -new wiper motor w/NOS gasket and washer pump -re-conditioned sway bar -re-conditioned cowl plate -re-conditioned ground straps, hardware, various rubber pieces, steering shaft, brackets etc. -re-conditioned A/C box (half of it anyway) I've also started to re-do the wheels I'll be using for this car and have almost all of the remaining parts and hardware that mount to the cowl and firewall cleaned and ready for paint and re-installation. I'm about to tear into the rear brakes, and I've just picked-up a rechromed front bumper off of ebay. All of the parts are cleaned, and/or painted before they are installed. I'm pretty happy with the results so far. I've noticed a few odd differences between the wagon and the Caminos. The bumper reinforcement of the wagon is a massive, full-length piece, while the Caminos have just two smallish mounting brackets at the frame horns. I'm guessing that it had to do with differing crash standards for trucks and cars. The other difference is an odd one, the wagon has a second, double ground strap that the caminos lack (it's the one near the wiper motor). The caminos have a dimple at the mount point, but no hole. I am also puzzled as to what the double strap is intended to connect to other than the engine block and firewall. The only point that seems within reach is a wiper motor mount which is already well grounded. pics:
  23. The Camino will be a frame-off restification and a weekend fun car. No pic for this topic - I'm just thinking out loud.
  24. I intend to cheat the next generation out of some of their fuel supply anyway. :AH-HA_wink:
