And what I find funny is that the GM designers sketched out this design back in 1999: and abandoned it, yet a similar looking truck surfaces three years later (2002) as the Dodge M80:
-
Well Sixty8, those were design skethces submitted for consideration for what eventually became the SSR (which was V8 & RWD). I think those could be cool little "personal" pickups, much in size & configuration to the Dodge M80 concept:

There are additional Hummer Hx Concept toys out now, all by Maisto: 1/64th scale diecast (available at Wal-Mart): 1/64th scale diecast (available at Target): 1/18th scale diecast:

Any damage to buildings, roads, etc???

Here are a couple of the SSR sketch considerations I mentioned before: Courtesy of pickuptrucks.com.

You and me both! <now let's wait until we hear from PCS on this particular topic... >

Well, of the couple of Hummer dealers I know in central & southern NJ, none have made a separate selling dealership for their Hummer franchise. The most notable Hummer dealer I know of, Perrine Buick-Pontiac-GMC-Hummer-Saab in Cranbury, NJ, always had Hummer as part of their regular, combined vehicle showroom. I believe back in '03 or '04 they cleared some trees on their land to make an off-road driving course (at least that is what I was told they were building), but nothing ever materialized and it's just an open spot in the wooded area (used for overflow parking for their June car show). I am sad to see Hummer go before more smaller models were introduced (Hx/H4). I really loved the Hx Concept when I saw it at the NYIAS this past March and could see myself owning one if they were available next year. I was really pulling for that (Hx/H4) and the GMC Denali XT concepts to make it to production, and now it seems as if GM is letting me down What would be nice is if GM offered the Hummer Hx/H4 to GMC, rebadge it, and allow GMC to sell it as competition for the Jeep Wrangler and Toyota FJ Cruiser. At least it wouldn't go to waste. Another thought - if GM does sell the Hummer brand, does that mean the concepts go with it, they get scrapped, or they remain in the GM Design Center's collection? (I'm talking about the 1999 H2 concept, the 2001 H2 SUT concept, Arnold's hydrogen-powered H2, and the Hx concept)

My '07 AURA XE has both the AUTO down and up features... are you sure you are working the switch correctly, or that the window switch is not broken? I'd look into that, as I love this feature (auto down & up) and hope it expands to more GM vehicles soon.
-
I was going to *correct* you by saying the 5-window cabs were an early '50s Chevy truck, then I realized that the design debuted in 1947, so I guess you're right when you say 1940's Chevy pickups (though when I hear 1940's I tend to think of the pre-war design). I'd love to see what an HHR pickup would look like, but think it would be too small of a truck for the real marketplace (unless the chasis was lengthened). If you ever read the SSR book, you'd have seen the other design sketches being considered for the SSR's style - '30s, early '40s, and some mid-'50s Chevy truck designs were considered before the late '40s/early '50s theme was chosen. I'd personally like to see a small (aka true compact) Chevy & GMC pickup, a'la Dodge M80, come to market for those needing a reliabe but cheap & efficient weekend hauler. Retro design could be used so that it and the HHR match in the showroom. On a side note, driving on I-295 South last Friday night a new bright red HHR SS passes me. I say to my step-son, "hey look - it's the new HHR SS!" His reply? "What did you just call that car?" (say HHR SS out loud - that name pronounced just sounds so silly versus a "real" name).

Hey guys... there's only one thing I have to say: :useless: ! ! ! ! ! !

New Hot Wheels 2008 1st Edition Releases

+1 on the "Welcome Back" Olds Guy! I've missed your updates & pictures. TED, I was finding them pretty much everywhere around me; however, lately I noticed most of them are now gone (I was at Target, Toys R Us, and Wal-Mart yesterday for the Star Wars: Clone Wars toy premiere and I couldn't find one Camaro Convertible <I'm looking for another orange one>). Maybe the Camaro enthusiasts bought them all up already? I need to visit K-Mart soon for something else, I'll look there - if they have extras, do you want me to pick you up any? -
I know you were invited to attend last year, but you were unable to due to other plans ( :AH-HA_wink: ). You could always ask Camino who to invite! I know I'm not that far away, especially to see such a unique car I know you did me that favor that no one else could do for me - I have not forgotten - and I am still grateful for you going out of your way to help me out. All I ask is that if you're going to Camino's house, especially with that great car, you let a few other C&Ger's come too to see the car (okay, just invite me then!!! ).
-
Well, Camino did host a small gathering of local C&G people last August when FlyBrian flew in to pickup his '76 LeSabre... would you mind if Camino invited a small group again when you show up? You could pick those that get invited :AH-HA_wink:

The Torrent takes Vacation... In WY, MT and SD!
GMTruckGuy74 replied to gm4life's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
You took some really nice pictures of your Pontiac on your trip... some even look like they could have been from a Torrent brochure (Pontiac should be using them :AH-HA_wink: ). Thanks for sharing! -
ocn, I agree with DF about your cousin getting the A/C fixed and keeping the Liberty. If she's truly happy with it, and it only needs the A/C fixed to make her satisfied with it again, then I say for her to go that route. Since March I pretty much drove the Envoy as my daily driver (the wife didn't like it, and preferred the AURA to it anyway). Now that the Envoy is gone and the AURA is my daily driver, I really, really, really miss the Envoy. I'm sure that if your cousin is happy with the ride, handling, and seating position of a in Jeep for the last 15 years, moving down (quite literally, too!) to a car will be a BIG adjustment for her. Depending on how much she really wants a new car, she needs to think this over carefully before she regrets her decision.

Picked these up on my travels for a dollar a piece
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in The Lounge
Cool find, PCS! I have ones for the GMC Syclone, Typhoon, and '50s GMC pickup somewhere in a box in my basement. Did you find these at a nationwide store, or at a smaller business? I'd like to find the GP one for myself, plus anything else the publisher has out new for GM (I knew that a book of these type of info cards was published a little over a year ago, but I thought the type of fold-out cards you bought were out of print). -
Thanks Sixty8, I appreciate your offer of assistance! balthazar, well, I was there only twice, and you're talking about 18 years ago!! I have no idea what the name of the place was; I believe it was off Route 202 just outside of Flemington, but my dad took backroads to get there (my uncle lived in West Amwell and found the place for us). I do believe the place closed sometime in the late '90s, so if any of that sounds close, it probably was the place you mentioned. If I come across one, I'll update this post. However, I'll take whatever assistance comes along

Thanks for the link. I checked it out and they have several '55-'56 GMC & Chevy trucks in stock, some that look to have the original steering wheel still. I'll have to place a call early next week to find out if they're still available.

I'm asking anyone here that from time to time goes to junkyards in search of parts for your projects and/or repair needs if you'd be willing to help me out. I'm looking to find a decent condition steering wheel from either a 1955-1956 GMC (preferred) or Chevrolet pickup (1957+ were a different design); if you find a GMC, I'd like the horn button too if it's not too far gone with rust. Here's a picture of the steering wheel I'm looking for: If you happen to be out in a junkyard and bump into a '55/'56 GMC or Chevy truck and that steering wheel pictured above is in good condition, would you remove and purchase it for me? You can PM me to find out the max I could pay for such an item, and I would definitely repay you for the cost, plus shipping and any other fees to get it to me. The reason I'd like one is that back in late 1990, my dad & I learned of a junkyard in Flemington, New Jersey and we went to look for parts for my grandpop's old '55 GMC pickup that was going to be restored. We found an old '55 or '56 Chevy, and the only part it offered us was the steering wheel. My cousin's husband went back the following weekend and removed it for me and I bought it (I was 15 years old at the time and spent my own hard earned summer money for it - all $25 bucks!). I cleaned it up and had it installed on the GMC before it left for the shop... the same shop that burnt down and in the process destroyed my grandpop's old truck (including the steering wheel). From time to time at car shows, I look in the flea market/parts corral for one of these steering wheels and they're pretty hard to find. Many sellers tell me to look in older junkyards, but there aren't too many around me anymore. If you can help me out, please let me know. There is no rush at all on this item, as I want it simply for a collection and not a restoration project. Thanks in advance
