LS-1 Horsepower in a lightweight 318i body for a lot less than a M3 motor would cost... and he probably also lowered his maintenance costs. I see nothing wrong here. Such cross breeding is fundamentally wrong and beneath contempt. You wouldn't put a Toyota engine in your Oldsmobile, would you? Why should I when GM makes engines that perform better and cost less? Even if there was one that performed better, it's unlikely to cost less. If it costs less, then it wouldn't perform better. Are you trying to say that the LS isn't a step up from a 1.8 BMW engine? I have no problem putting a Chevy LT-1 into my Oldsmobile... I'm really not that married to the 307. Find me a Toyota engine that performs better than the LT-1 and costs equal or less than one. That's how low the bar is set. $1595 gets me a rebuilt LT-1 (260hp, 340 lb-ft) from the '96 Roadmaster. Or I can spend $400 more and move up the the LS1. The least expensive Toyota V6 engine at $1795 is 2.5 liter 156hp V6 from the 1991 ES250..... where do I sign up? You obviously missed the point...a 318i upgraded w/ a later BMW 6 cyl or V8 would be cool and brand-appropriate, but using a Chevy V8 is a stupid as putting a Chevy V8 in a Ford or a Ford engine in a GM product. Putting a Chevy V8 in a BMW or an RX-7 is just Hot Rod magazine silliness. And you missed mine. Sometimes someone wants the best performance for their buck and doesn't care about the brand name on the valve covers as long as it goes fast. In this case, he didn't even spoil the 3-series delicate balance.

That's just stupid and wrong on so many levels... LS-1 Horsepower in a lightweight 318i body for a lot less than a M3 motor would cost... and he probably also lowered his maintenance costs. I see nothing wrong here.

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.” -columnist commenting on Paul Ryan endorsing Ayn Rand's books

I like the idea, not the location. Moving to The Lounge.

Cars my step-son is considering to buy...
Drew Dowdell replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Auctions and Classifieds
tell him to get the Roadmaster and a set of wrenches, he'll be good for another 10 years. -
it's a historical drama?
-
If that's all it is... I wonder if GM shouldn't pull all of it's ads from the History channel as well.... that place is like 75% nazi propaganda.

depends on wants and needs. A 3800 V6 would be better for me than my 307 but it doesn't come in a car I want. -

Where did you get the idea that the northstar is not a recommended engine? It just takes 8 quarts of synthetic... but other than that, it's a $3500 car. -
Do you have a link or any information to back that up?
-
I like it, I'm just not sure it's a Buick. Would make a great Pontiac or Saturn though.

Wow... only 3mpg over my 307?

Police Fleets Gain 3 MPG with 2012 Chevrolet Impala New powertrain improves fuel economy and adds horsepower 3.6L V-6 engine produces 302 hp – 70 more than in 2011 Impala Police gets GM-estimated 27 mpg highway DETROIT – Law enforcement officers are just as affected by higher gas prices as the citizens they are sworn to protect and serve. The 2012 Chevrolet Impala Police helps address this by adding more MPG and a more powerful engine. A new 3.6L V-6 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission achieves 302 hp and an estimated fuel economy of 17 mpg city and 27 mpg highway – a 3 mpg advantage over previous Impala models and 28 percent better than the Ford Crown Victoria. The 2012 Impala can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds, based on GM engineering tests. "Because our police customers need to conserve their budgets, we designed the 2012 Chevrolet Impala Police to help reduce fuel costs while standing up to the toughest environments and most demanding situations," said Dana Hammer, police vehicle manager for GM Fleet and Commercial Operations. The 2012 model will be the first Chevrolet Impala Police to feature StabiliTrak, GM's proven electronic stability control technology. Significant brake upgrades shortened the vehicle's 60-0 mph stopping distance to 132 feet in GM tests. Impala's steering and suspension systems are also new for 2012, reducing body roll and improving handling. In response to strong demand from police customers, Goodyear Eagle RS-A all-season tires, which have a W speed rating, enable speed of up to 140 mph if required. They are standard on the 2012 Impala Police. Retail customers who purchase the 2012 Impala, which goes on sale this month, also will get the additional horsepower and fuel economy. "The enhancements to the 2012 Impala's powertrain, steering and suspension produce a new vehicle that has improved performance, handling and safety features for police and general consumers," said Darren Post, vehicle line director for Impala. "And they'll see a savings at the fuel pump."

but more so for raising it. big SUV's are onyl a very small % uh, The F-150 was the best selling vehicle in the US last month. Mid-size and up SUVs/CUVs/Trucks make yup over 50% of the market. Because of the size of the Equinox, one could credibly argue that GM doesn't even HAVE a compact SUV anymore. The Lambdas are selling strong until last month and so are the GMT-900s. A lowering of the gas tax would most certainly help GM because at least 50% of their sales are in the big SUV/CUV/Truck market.

Ms money has been discontinued. You dismiss alerts in mint by pressing and holding the alert. Dismiss all is also an option under there. My mint syncs just fine with the website. It's just that the app crashes on me often.
-
My problems with android bugs seem to be app specific. Tweetdeck, mint and grindr are all very buggy for me. Others not at all.
-
I am also going to put a warning out there, including to the original poster, about getting too political in this thread.
-
It's a conflict of interest if GM supports moving the gas tax in either direction... either because they benefit from being one of the SUV and crossover leaders if the gas tax goes down... or they benefit from the big strides they've made in fuel efficiency for their cars if the tax goes up. Non-story here.

Cool, can you add it to the calendar tab up top?

How many "400" V8s has GM built over the years?

I've always known 442 to stand for 4-Barrel, 4-speed, Dual exhaust. -
I'm not so much and Android fan boy as much as I don't see the allure of the iPhone verses it's cost. One of the biggest things that sold me on the Android over the iPhone originally (besides not being on AT&T) was the inclusion of not one, but two voice turn-by-turn apps for FREE. I found that one feature to be far more important than flinging birds at pigs or even syncing with my iTunes library. (Which, of course, there is now an App for that). My phone is due for replacement soon only because it's falling far behind in processor performance and Android OS. Otherwise, it works well and already does all of those new things that iOS5 can do.
