  1. Toyoguy left to save face given the recent issues over in Toyoland SMK just gets his numbers completely wrong for cars that exist while pulling numbers out of his ass for cars that don't.... and he's still here. Buickman... well, he wanted to overthrow Rick just so he could sell more LeSabres and Rendevous...... we don't have a sanity test for the board, but perhaps it's an idea who's time has come. Josh, you know that tale.
  2. This is what happens when you rely on NAV.
  3. I didn't know the 3.6 could go up to 4.0. Heck, a 4.0, naturally aspirated with DI would likely be good for around 320hp. There goes the need for the current V8 Northstar.
  4. the money they saved by canceling the UV8 should go straight into E-flex
  5. you mean like the Camry built here on the same platform as the ES built in Japan that overlaps with the IS built in Japan that is on a different platform? Nothing at all like the Lacrosse II built here on the same platform as the 9-5 built in Europe that ovelaps with the CTS built in the US on a different platform...... There is no big differences in resources used. GM does it with 3 more targeted brands, Toyota does it with two. If anything this is more a problem for Lexus because of a foggy brand perception.... is Lexus a squishy luxo cruiser? <ES/RX/LS> or a sporty euro intender <IS/GS/SC>? When you mention Lexus to someone in the general population... what is the car they first think about more likely to be ES or IS? Which would Lexus rather have them think of first? With GM, the brands can be much more focused. Buick is the squishy luxo cruiser, Saab is the Euro, Cadillac is the bad ass American luxury sport.
  6. It really burns me that the best selling vehicle in the US is the F-150.... because you know the most "heavy duty" use that 75% of them see is when they run over the curb at the mall.
  7. well it does... and if you are staunchly pro-american when buying automobiles you should be staunchly pro-american when buying your clothes, food, household items, etc...... which means being primarily anti-walmart.
  8. 2006? STS-V/XLR-V
  9. 3 years ago?
  10. the mention the CTS, FOG
  11. WTF guys?! They canceled one V8 in development.... the Northstar isn't going away! With just DI and VVT on the table there is a lot of life left in the Northstar. Pair it up with a 2-mode hybrid and great things will happen. quit acting like GM just stole your lollypop.
  12. the only "division" without new product currently available?
  13. you've been sniffin that Ford glue too long. :AH-HA_wink:
  14. LaCrosse was beaten with an ugly stick. The new one will be out soon. Lucerne still outsells everything in it's class except the 300.
  15. I think we'll see an improved version of the current northstar with DI and better VVT. and that this cancellation isn't really anything to cry over.
  16. aaaaaand .....end of thread
  17. Critics will poopoo the lack of a blue and white rondel most of all. Being more beautiful than the LS shouldn't be terribly difficult, that's kinda like being more beautiful than Kathy Bates... big, stern looking, handsome for what she is, but still no Kathrine Zeta Jones. The Park Ave probably won't park itself, but for the most part I could see it competing in technology and comforts while still being less money. If you could buy a 360hp Buick Park Ave with all the goodies except self park and it had this interior for $15k less than an LS, wouldn't you? Only the brand snobs wouldn't.
  18. Gm = Marine engines, Locomotive engines <woah, honda missed one there>, Electric vehicles <actually release to the public>, flex fuel <honda fields a massive 0 vehicles that can burn E85>, diesel, cylinder deactivation, two types of hybrids, bus engines <Honda missed there too>, hybrid bus engines <no honda>, fuel cell technology, E-flex technology, the first SULEV V6, VVT that make's Honda's Vtec look like a computer controlled rube-goldberg machine but of course you knew that you were refering to hybrids and the article was referring to the variety of fuels used to power the next generation of automobiles. Honda has gasoline engines and gasoline hybrid engines <one style, only available in small cars>, and that's it. They're talking about doing a diesel, but it's not here yet. Making an engine isn't a trick, making a hybrid or alternative fuel engine for the next generation is...and Honda has one of them. GM has 3 types of fuel available, 3 kinds of hybrids <Tall, Grande, Venti> that can be used in anything from a mid-sized family sedan to a full size SUV to a city bus and was doing cylinder deactivation before it was cool. In terms of automotive powertrain variety, GM is way ahead of Honda. That's not to say I don't like Honda's hybrid, I actually greatly enjoy it. The Flexcar I use most is a Civic Hybrid and it does it's best to tempt me from GM every time I drive it.
  19. Is the Northstar going out of production? It's still good for 320hp without direct injection. edit: This does mean no Enclave Super.
  20. I think the Astra will be an unsuspected splash once word gets out. They're only planning on selling 30,000 of them here next year? I'm hoping that can't be right.
  21. Honda, so far, is a one trick pony.
  22. Plug in, alcohol burning, hybrids with variable displacement engines. that was easy.
  23. Oh... see, I want Buick to soak up the Buick-type buyers. That's what I picture the LaCrosse II existing for. The ES isn't aspirational to you and I because we know it's just a Camry De Lux. However Regina Realestateagent sees the L on the hood so it's aspirational for her. The RWD Zeta Park Ave should go up against the LS, and the Enclave is already putting the hurt on the RX. The IS, GS, SC and LX are covered by Cadillac.
