  2. No. Sears and K-Mart actually merged to become a single company. This is actually a smart move by VW and it works out for Ford. It's a way to get around Trump Tariffs while also not committing billions to build another plant in the US. Ford gets some financial relief from the burden of running these plants. I actually expect these types of arrangements to become more common. Purely a speculative example based on no evidence, but Benz could contract with GM to build E-Classes in Hamtramck to get around the tariff. Or BMW using Lordstown to build 3-series. It would help both companies involved.
  3. What is it about people who already make many millions of dollars that they then have the desire to risk it all to nefariously make more. Shame about the long-range leaf... maybe we'll see it in Chicago?
  4. I miss my '85 Lincoln. As much crap as 80's American cars get, that one was an absolute tank. Lincoln got everything right one that one and then completely mucked it up for the replacement model.

  8. The check engine light for the economy just came on. We've had a volitile market this year to be sure but today a bad signal just showed up that makes today's stock market plunge different from the others in 2018.   9. Not really, no. The batteries can be increased or decreased in size as much as cost and space allow. Chevy could drop the price of the Volt by making a LowVolt version with half the battery. It would probably take $5k off the price in exchange for a 25+ mile EV range instead of a 50+ mile one. That would put it pretty much in line with the Pruis Prime in both range and cost.
  10. The CT4 and CT5 are coming. I would expect the 3.0TT to show up in those. Or maybe still the 3.6TT for V-series and V-Sports.
  11. There is nothing technologically remarkable about the drive part of the Volt's powertrain, it's all in the batteries. A Niro PHEV is $28.2k base and $36k absolutely loaded. It should be the template for a Volt crossover. The Volt would be a bit more expensive than the Niro though as it has more batteries and range.
  12. Fully autonomous is still a decade away from the mainstream, but semi-autonomous or "highway only" autonomous? That'll be mainstream a lot faster than you think. Cadillac's SuperCruise is already that fantastic. Of the around 350 miles from my place to a destination in NY, the CT6 drove most of it and I only had to pilot it myself for about 30 of those miles.
  13. Escalade, CT4, CT5, XT6, XT5 (refresh).... not in that order XT6 will be in Detroit in January.

Of all of the introductions that Cadillac has over the next year and a half (1 every 6 months till the end of 2020), only ONE is a new model that doesn't directly/indirectly replace something they don't already sell. (I'm counting CT4 as an indirect replacement for ATS and CT5 as an indirect replacement for CTS)
  15. I'm guessing the CT6 will be imported from China. That's my guess.
  16. Read between the lines.... the official line is that the CT6 is no longer going to be produced in North America. It will remain in production in other countries.
  17. The reduction in horsepower in favor of the twin-turbo setup still won't be enough for @smk4565... he'll find something wrong with the headliner or the insides of the glovebox.

  20. I agree with all of what you said about displacement. I don't care for small displacement turbo engine either. but I'm trying to keep this thread on topic.... Uber and Lyft drivers do need cars too... but they need fewer cars to service their customers than their customers would if each one bought a car.
  21. What about diesel warm-up time @dwightlooi, or do these generators run all the time instead of start-stop like the Volt?
  22. None of this has anything to do with people buying Traverses instead of Impalas. The market is driving these cuts. People don't want to drive anymore because it is such a chore. They would rather Uber or Lyft and play on their smartphone while someone else drives.
